What a difference a month makes.....
cajun that sounds exactly like what I'm going through right now....all I do is walk around the house or up and down the driveway and I nap often. I'm pretty tired. I simply cannot do broth. Just hearing that word makes me want to hurl. I was so happy that I could start having Protein shakes today..but I can only get about 2oz in at a time. I did have a cup of decaf coffee this morning with non-dairy creamer and splenda and OMG it was the best thing I've ever had in my life I think! lol Other than that I'm trying to just sip Water throughout the day.

My Stomach has 4 Days to Live
It's getting closer! I'll tell you what everybody told me..you're going to do fine. I'm still 5 lbs up from when I went in for surgery but I was like 14 lbs higher when I first got home! and yes i think it IS possible to lose that much...I lost 12 lbs in 1.5 weeks just from getting off sugars and forcing myself to have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch (Which I usually skipped altogether)

Hi Everyone!
I felt the same way and I didn't sleep hardly a wink the night before my surgery. But I was confident in my decision to do this and with the procedure I chose. I have a huge needle phobia so the IV was a big concern of mine and so were the heparin shots in my tummy. I let them know about my phobia when I got there and they were really nice about it. They stuck me with a little bitty tiny needle in my hand with lidocaine to numb the area up and then put the IV in and I didn't feel a thing. They waited to give me the first heparin shot after I was already under. When they brought me to the OR they put an oxygen mask on my face and told me to breathe deeply and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I remember vaguely waking up and them telling me everything went well and I was fine. I don't remember anything else until I woke up in my own room. Also I didn't feel any of the other heparin shots because my tummy was numb. Every other medication they gave me was through the IV. Overall it was a fairly easy experience. The worst part of the whole thing was the pressure in my chest and upper back that I woke up with. I wouldn't even describe it as pain...just pressure. Enough that it was a bit uncomfortable but I still was so groggy that I just went back to sleep. When I woke up I was much better. I had my surgery at 7:30 am wednesday morning and was home by 11:00 am thursday morning. The post op diet? Mine sucks...I won't lie. I'm sick to death of broth, sick to death of crystal light and Jello and I am so ready to have something of substance. I have a pretty strict post-op plan which doesn't really introduce real food for nearly 2 months. I never thought I'd be looking forward to being able to have a Protein shake again! lol I'm planning to go to work on Monday although probably not a full day. Probably will only stay a couple of hours. I've never had any real pain...just soreness and tiredness and lots and lots of burping. I've been using the gas x strips religiously..they have helped me a lot. I had a good bit of trouble with acid the 2nd day and I started drinking plain Water instead of so much crystal light and that seems to have helped. Good luck to you...I'm sure you will do great!

Tired of being a peeping Tom .. so I joined :)
Hello and welcome to the boards. I have nothing to offer about Mexico as I had my surgery done here locally. Obviously I'm here on these boards so I chose the sleeve. The band was not even an option for me. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and welcome and I hope you find the information you need to help you make your decision! Good Luck!

New here and just make the decision
Try surgeryloans.com and care credit I went with Care Credit as the interest rate with them was a little bit less and you can choose to finance for up to 60 months if you need to. Ask your surgeon's office if they accept Care Credit and if they're doing the interest free promotion. My surgeon's office didn't do that promotion..only the one at 14.9% interest. If you don't mind me asking....how much weight would you like to lose?

Yeah...that's right! I did it!
I didn't have leg things just foot things that every few minutes would fill up with air and then release. They told me too that as much as I was getting up and walking around that I didn't need them. It started the day I got home in my left calf and then yesterday it was in both. It feels like whenever you work out a whole lot and then you are sore the next day but it's only in the backs of my calves. Maybe I'm low on potassium? The first doc I talked to...the one on call the other night said it could be from the fluid too....to give myself time to urinate some of that out. Who knows!

I have become a champion BURPER!
All day long I burp. This constant feeling of needing to burp is annoying. Is this something that is going to stay with me forever or is this still part of getting rid of all the gas they pumped into me?

sleeved and home
wow I wish I could have cream soups...I'm sick to death of these clear liquids..and for some reason the thought of broth just totally turns me off.
-
Yeah...that's right! I did it!
oh so I definitely can relate now to having more restriction in the morning. I finally got some good sleep last night...was able to sleep on my side/stomach. I woke up at like 4 am and decided to have some Jello. I couldn't take more than a few bites and felt incredibly full. Yesterday I had like 2 or 3 little cups of jello and was able to eat the whole thing. My 2 complaints thus far....this constant feeling like I need to burp...like there is always air sitting right at the top of my tummy. The other thing is this incredible pain/soreness in my calves. I did call the doc about that because I have a huge fear of getting a blood clot but after describing it to him he said it sounds muscular. So I'm just watching it. Might send my hubby out later to find some of those compression socks. It doesn't hurt when I'm just sitting here but when I get up to walk ..wow, talk about hurt.

Yeah...that's right! I did it!
One night in the hospital for me too...I didn't have a drain tube but I did have a catheter which they took out early in the morning the day after surgery.

New here and just make the decision
Hi Zephra! Welcome to the boards. I'm still a newbie myself. I had my surgery this past wednesday. Did your doctor give you a specific pre-op diet plant to follow to lose that 15-20 lbs? Before my official pre-op diet started I made some changes in preparation for life after surgery. I cut out all sugars...like sweet tea, sugar in my coffee, soft drinks, etc. I never ate Breakfast and hardly ever ate lunch but then would have a huge meal for dinner. So I started drinking a Protein shake for breakfast and for lunch and then eat something healthy for dinner. I started that about 2 weeks before my initial surgeon consult and I lost 12 lbs during that time. You've definitely come to the right place for support...just consider us your second family! :tongue_smilie:

Recovering nicely...
Our stories are almost identical except for the fact that I had a catheter until the next morning.

Sleeved on 4/28
Congratulations! I, too, was sleeved on the 28th. There are several of us all sleeved on the same day and a few the day before us as well. I can totally relate to feeling like you did about a million crunches..I keep saying it feels like someone punched me in the stomach about a million times..lol I don't know how much liquids I'm getting in..I need to start measuring it. Sugar free jello and popsicles have been my saving grace though! I switched over from crystal light and sugar free koolaid to just plain water because I think that crystal light was giving me heartburn. I don't really have any suggestions..I just keep my cup of ice and water next to me at all times and sip on it. Best of luck to you and please keep posting. It's nice having people who are at the same place in the journey as me!

Now I'm Worried!
My surgeon's office suggests that we have Imodium tablets on hand in case of diarrhea. They said it just happens to some people. The most important thing to remember is to stay hydrated. Make sure she's taking in enough fluids and watch for signs of dehydrations! Carefully monitor her to make sure the fever doesn't come back also. If it does, please contact her surgeon's office. Good luck to her!

Post -op liquid question
I can't have Protein shakes until day 5 which will be sunday. I haven't even tried to get any protein in yet. I've just been concentrated on getting enough fluids. And on an unrelated note...I am finally able to sleep on my side in my bed. Hoping that will allow me to get a good night's rest. I slept in my husband's recliner last night.
-
Yeah...that's right! I did it!
LOL swift! How's the sipping going? How much are you getting in? The only reason I'm continuing to take the liquid lortab is because it helps me sleep.
-
Yeah...that's right! I did it!
So today is the third day and I'm way more sore today than I was surgery day or yesterday. Feels like someone just punched me in the stomach about a million times. LOL I'm still very swollen and all I want to do is burp. I haven't had any nausea at all though for which I'm very thankful.

sleeved and home
Way to go Carla! Aren't you happy to have it behind you?
-
Water?
I switched to plain water last night because the crystal light and stuff were giving me heartburn so bad. I'm not usually a fan of plain water, but I'm enjoying it right now!
-
nervous & excited
BJean...sounds like you're doing great too! My biggest issue is heartburn/acid. I haven't had any nausea.

...Im New...
My doc told me to sip on milk of magnesia a couple of times a day.
