Muscle Relaxers?
Does anyone know if it's ok to take a muscle relaxer? I bent over to pick some clothes up off the floor this morning and felt my back go out. I went to a new chiro today and he took a bunch of x rays. He actually thinks we can reverse some of the damage of the degeneration and also the bulging disc. He noted that my right hip is lower than the left and that the pelvis on the left side is tilted and that my left shoulder is higher than the right and rounding to the front instead of straight. Also the curves in my spine aren't where they're supposed to be since I'm all out of whack. What does all that mean? EXTREME PAIN! I normally don't like to take things that make me feel cuckoo but I'm really hurting here.

Sorry I completely suck...
Glad to hear everything is going well for you. That's awesome about your dad coming home early.

Is it possible to lose 20 lbs in 5 days?
Did you use the same scale to weigh both times? Did you have a pre-op diet and lose any then? I think those who don't have a pre-op diet or just do one day of clear liquids the day before surgery tend to have a big loss right off the bat. I lost 24 lbs pre-op. I came home from the hospital weighing 13 lbs more than I did when I went in and by my 1 week post op appt. I had lost that plus 8 lbs. But I know several others who had lost a lot more than 8 lbs but they hadn't lost anything pre-op.

Congrats that's awesome!

Just wondering
I think it's normal to fluctuate...it could be water retention.

12 days out & loving it
wow...your post op plan progresses you pretty quickly to soft foods, huh? I'm almost 4 weeks out and have just started being able to have those things. I was so happy to get to that point too. Sounds like you are doing great...congrats!

Regrets??
I've seen this question posted plenty of times and I've yet to see anyone answer that they were sorry they had the surgery.

What KIND of pain are you in? Is it incision pain? Is it internal soreness? Is it gas pain?

Trouble w/ Protein...
Kitty...she can drink water just fine...it's the amount of Protein she's able to get in now that she's worried about. Nobody is going to drink 64oz of Fluid a day when they first come home nor do they expect you to. The hospital will make sure you can drink an adequate amount to stay hydrated before they release you.

Trouble w/ Protein...
I didn't even worry about Protein at all until day 5 when I could start drinking my Protein Shakes. That's what my surgeon told me to do. The most important thing in the first few days was getting in the fluids. And it definitely gets easier!

Whiney....need advice
I have creamed soup once a day...usually for dinner and about a cup at a time..but they were thin. I had it not for it's nutritional value but just for something different to eat. In other words, I didn't want to fill up all day on that knowing I needed to get my Protein in. I got all my protein from protein shakes. I still do mostly although I'm moving on to soft foods so slowly getting protein from real foods now. I can't stand the isopure drinks at all and I don't like the unflavored Proteins either at all. I mix all of my protein shakes with Water even though they told me I could mix them with skim milk or carb countdown milk. I figured the water was working for me why change it. I'm really into gladiator smoothies right now. I bought a tub of the vanilla and a tub of chocolate. When I have the vanilla, I add a banana to it..depending on how many carbs I've had that day. If I don't need anymore carbs for the day I'll make a chocolate smoothie. My surgeon told me to expect to be tired and low energy for a few weeks. I still get pretty tired in the afternoon/evening but it's getting better. The longer out you get the easier it should get you to drink more and get in those amounts. Good luck to you!

Sleeved & Swelling...
I looked kinda pregnant when I came home I was so swollen....but other parts were swollen too...my ankles hands everything. After about 5 days it went away....except the tummy that took a little longer.
-
fingers crossed
I really think it's true that we need to give our bodies a jolt once in a while so that it doesn't get too comfortable in a routine. What are your plans for here on out? Are you going to go back to your regular eating habits and then just do the increased calories every few days or once a week or something?

Liquids and fullness?
I think it's totally normal. I didn't have a whole lot of the gurgling and growling...probably cause I burped like every 5 seconds non stop for the first week or so. I still burp but not nearly as often...after every meal I burp a lot though. It's quite funny. Also liquids go through our tummies pretty quickly. Even if you take a sip too fast or drink too much to quickly and get that pretty full feeling...for me at least it goes away within just a minute and I go right back to drinking. As for low long it takes you to drink a glass of Water...it seems that everybody is different. I never really had a problem drinking and could drink pretty normal drinks within just a few days. Thank god for crystal light and sf koolaid cause I really don't much care for plain water unless I'm really hot and really thirsty!
