gemgirl reacted to mparkersmith in How much weight did you lose during your first month post-op?
I took a month off of work, and I lost about 18 pounds. I remember being disappointed about that, but in retrospect, 18 pounds is a lot to lose in 4 weeks!!! Six months out now, and I could not be happier with my weight loss! Everyone is different, your journey is your own. Good luck!

I had a month off work. In that first month I lost about 35-40 pounds.
You don't have a lot of weight to lose so I think you will probably lose a bit slower. Plus I am a guy and we seem to lose weight more quickly.

gemgirl got a reaction from Butterthebean in What's Your Food Philosophy: Abstain Forever Or Eat In Moderation?
I have dealt with this issue in the past. When I diet and abstain from certain food choices I do really great, but whenever I decide I will just "have a few bites" of something that I shouldn't be eating, it all goes downhill. I always ruin my diet when I do this, so I think that I will just abstain.

    Celebrate!
I can probably count 2 or 3 times in my lifetime (44 years of age) where I can recollect the kind of cake that was served at an occasion.
Make memories of your celebration with your family and friends...not the cake & ice cream. That cake you were going to eat is going to last about 10 minutes and you won't remember it the next day.

Why DON'T you get to celebrate?
Have a great time with your family and friends, and think about this: Food does not need to be the center of attention -- the reason for every celebration!

I'm scheduled for Dec. 18th and I plan on staying that night alone in the hospital so that my hubby can go home and stay with our 2 year old. I don't want to inconvenience anyone to have to stay with my daughter. And like previous posters said- there is plenty of help at the hospital

Congrats Gelica and Happy Birthday! Don't feel sad about not celebrating your birthday with food or cake. You are starting a new and healthier life and that in itself is worth celebrating. There will be plenty of more birthdays that you can Celebrate. You did something amazing for yourself and a few months from now this will all be in the past.
My surgery is in 3 weeks and I can't wait!! I won't be able to eat food with my family on Christmas or have Vodka on New Year's but you know what, I've been there and done that plenty of years in the past. There will always be next year!

When my surgeon asked me what I will miss after surgery, I immediately blurted out COFFEE! Joe is my constant morning companion, my anti-depressant, my drug. Hell, he even keeps me regular--that thoughtful Joe. You see, my program dictates no coffee, not even decaf., nada until at least 3 months after surgery. They say it is all too acidic. And I think they are more focused on us staying hydrated, and coffee defeats that. I am in mourning. I started with half-caff. today, and plan to work my way down to Decaf. by the time my pre-surgery diet begins on Dec. 4th.

Don't torture yourself, just do what your doctor says and be happy about it. Not everyone has to do a pre op starvation diet. If you insist upon doing it, you have a number of options. You can choose a balanced Meal Replacement Protein shake and drink it during the day, staying around 800 cal a day (3-4 shakes). You could do low or no carb, high Protein food diet. You could do a combination of the two, keeping your calories around 800. My personal advice, enjoy your last weeks of eating.

hi everybody im only here visting!! i have been researching weight loss surgery for maybe the last 4-5 years. i been to 2 workshops but was never able to complete the process as i kept getting pregnant each time im back into researching more ive decided i want to do the sleeve. I have not started the process as I am 5 months pregnant but I am trying to get my mind in the right mind set and get motiviation started to do this when the baby finally arrives. getting tubes tied im done popping out babies ; )
I watched on netflix a tv series called Ruby. SO GOOD. Really opened my eyes to my food addiction. I been in denial for so long. I am not as big as she was 700 lbs I am 250 lbs at 5 months pregnant (normally im 240) but If i dont do something soon it wont be long till I get there!
today i was dropping off my 2 older childern at a school basketball game when my mind was saying to go sneak to mc donalds grab a grilled chicken n super size fry and a side of of mayo (i dip my fries in !) i started getting into an arguement w myself on the way to mc donalds that i was not even hungry at all theres no reason to go there. an old lady was driving down the street in the dark with her head lights completly OFF it distracted me for a min and i passed mc donalds. i took it as a sign from God to GO HOME. And so i did and i am feeling accomplished. I just hope that old lady made it home safe too!!! ????
For those of you nearing ur surgery dates much respect for you I hope to be where you guys are at one day soon. - Melissa.

I started with a bmi of 28 (band revision) and lost 14 lbs the first month. Since then (4 mths post op) I've lost a total of 22 lbs. While that doesn't look like alot, I've lost 50% of my excess weight in 4 mths, which is fabulous.
I knew it would come off slower, since I started out much lower. And those last 22 r definitely the hardest!
    Good luck to u

My name is April. I have been wanting to do this for years. I started my journey this month. I have a new job, and my insurance covers the sleeve just like any other surgery!! I am so excited and nervous. I don't have to do much to get ready. Must a psych consult, 1 nutrition class, and some lab work mm that's it! I am hoping to have it done by the end of November or sometime in December.
