Hi just checking in on you , i'm so proud of you going to see a counciler,I wish I could get up the nerve or get a "backbone" as one woman said(& she's right) My husband won't even let me go to Mass on Sunday, but my situation isnt the point of topic...you are, are you feeling any better? I sure hope so, just keep those fluids going & eat small meals a few times a day instead of 3. that seems to work for me. hope this little bit of advice helps & have a Blessed Holiday Season.
And for those folks who have their panties in a bunch over a word or to "they" think are inapproprate, GET OVER YOURSELVES, we're all adults & if the language IS offensive this sit will delete it. Have a happy holiday to all members...= )

Surgery November 18, and I had pain in the left shoulder. No pain meds since I came home. Today I had an episode after I ate and swallowed too quickly and I know that it is associated with the episode I had, not any leak. It is just an ache in the shoulder. Strange but not worrying me. Best wishes.

Im sure you are absolutely right. I'm sure many back out. The impatient side of me wants it done NOW but in reality, the wait is for the best for most being it is a life long change to our God given bodies. For me, I've been wanting and researching the surgery for years. I made the final decision to follow through when life just became not fun anymore, everyday normal things became difficult to do, and I realized that for at least the past 5 years, I've sat in my house/bedroom rotting and getting larger, while most of the world was enjoying their lives. I want to enjoy life. I want to smile. I don't want to hide in my bedroom anymore.

Wow, thanks for letting us know. I'm two weeks out and SO ANXIOUS to get to real food! I'm sure I would have done something similar without your warning. My doc requires full liquids the first three weeks, then purees and soft for the next 9. No grilled chicken until 3+ months out.

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from gmanbat in 1 month post op scare
I am 1 month out today and had the scare of my life. I had about 1/2 cup or little less at 6 pm last night of crockpot cooked diced chicken in mushroom sauce. Apparently I ate too fast. At 10 pm began feeling "sick" and woke up still feeling sick. At 3 pm today cancelled our evening plans and decided to eat a little yogurt and lie down. After 3 teaspoons yogurt I had excruciating pain between my breasts and could hardly breathe, ran to my husband, could not talk, and thought I was having a heart attack. The pain was horrific. After 5 minutes of me gasping and running around, I felt a slight release of something in my chest, and assume the yogurt slid on down.

Nutritionist happened to call and said I should eat 1/2 cup 6 months after surgery, not 1 month. Obviously I ate a little too fast. And did not chew as well as I usually do. That I probably have irritation and swelling and should go back on liquids. Doctor's office returned my call and agreed.

I have felt so great that I wondered if I really had surgery, and found out today that I did. I have almost felt no restriction eating and got a little too comfortable.

I wanted to share this with you Newbies, because you can see what could happen. One poster said she went to a restaurant with friends and ended up on the floor. Now I know why. That pain and feeling you cannot breathe will get you on the floor. Be smart my friends, be smart. Don't jump to new foods too quickly. This was my first chicken dish, and I had eaten a little bit for 3 nights and the 3rd night was not the charm!

    Merry Christmas all! Linda

When I tell my story here it is to educate...not to scare people..I was no where near ready to face the issues I have faced with this adventure.....but I either scream my head off, stamp my feet or make the best of the situation by reaping the positives out of every one of my experiences...I chose to go there...
What happened to me is really rare...But it gave someone like you hun the chance to really think it through and make an educated decision.....So to me it is worth it all to see someone learn and be aware of the good and bad of it...You have had it really good and I am so happy for you... I am glad your poor hubby has had an easier time adjusting then mine has.....You mean a lot to me on here as well....I enjoy reading your posts because they are the way it was supposed to be for all of us!!!!

LindafromFlorida reacted to PdxMan in For the love of GOD why am I so hungry ?!
Are you starting each meal with Protein? I know for me, it makes a huge difference. Early out, I also avoided the starchy carbs as I have found they are a trigger for cravings, which can easily be misinterpreted as hunger. I wrote a reply on another thread recently where I reflect on eating out of habit rather than being hungry. When I come home from work, I usually have a snack. cheese on a cracker or something like that. But the other day when I came home late because of the office holiday party, I did the same thing. Went to the cupboard to grab the crackers, but the thing was, I wasn't truly hungry. I had just eaten turkey and ham at the party and was quite full still, but out of habit, I went and grabbed something to eat.
So, this is something that I have to be constantly vigilant of. I am eating because I am truly hungry or am I eating for another reason? I am my own worst enemy. When I do the right things, though, like eating my lean Protein, it is easier for me to put down whatever else I am wanting to put in my mouth.

Thanks for this comment. I started at 188. Set a goal of 55 lbs and I'm down 26.5 which is almost 50% of my goal in 10 weeks, so I guess I'm doing pretty fabulous!!!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Believe that. Let go of the past, it only drags you down. Fantastic you found someone to talk to. You are not the cause of anything. We do not choose problems in our lives and our health, but we can conquer them all through Faith, God, and our actions. Blessings!

Girls, let me say this. I love gumbo and I will be making it soon. I do my own version with the spices I love, adding everything I like. Rice will be the only thing to not add, but as a seafood/chicken gumbo, you can eat a healthy version and enjoy. I have taste tested a little taco sauce, spicy enchilada sauce on a tsp LOL, because I love spicy. I added medium taco sauce on a little refried Beans and yay, even that was good! Good luck!

I think my husband bought just the crabmeat. He did ask whether he should go to the asian grocery store and get a live crab but I pretty told him I'd leave him if he did that, so he settled for Central Market instead
    I'm such a hypocrite.

Living in Florida, crabcakes is one of my favorite dishes to make. I have never breaded my crabcakes, never used cream, since we are always dieting. I use 1 can crabmeat, an egg to bind the cake, Old Bay Seasoning to taste. a dash of hot sauce, good squeeze of lemon juice, minced celery and bell pepper, dash of worcestershire sauce. Make cakes, and saute in small amount of olive oil til browned. I would suggest experimenting, can't go wrong with such simple ingredients!

Hi Crissy, hang in there. You do have lots of friends and they are all on this forum. We are here 23-7. there may even be some in Nevada. Look in the room for Nevada and you may find someone close. I have not had my surgery yet but from the many folks I have spoken with, buyers remorse is very common the first month. Once you have healed and you are over the surgery part of this ordeal you will look at this a bit differently. I'm not telling any of my friends about the surgery so I understand the "aloneness" you feel. Even if you had shared this with family and friends they wouldn't understand things like the sleevers would so stick with us to help you get through this. Take one day at a time and envision yourself healthy and energetic at whatever size you want to be. Think about being able to walk up and down stairs without being winded, about having energy to walk 3 miles, or participate in a 5K race. The depression is temporary. You will get through this and you will feel much better. Hope to talk to you soon.
