When I reply to a topic I try and give the OP as much information as I can. I will post positive feedback to problems, and cheer on great status updates.
BUT, I feel many topics need to be answered honestly and to the point. Even if it means being harsh and maybe even slightly rude. Some people put stuff out there looking for justification on something they did or are thinking of doing. I feel those type of posts need to be nipped in the butt. Many people like to reply with the whole "everybody does it different". That is a bunch of crap. While we may do things slightly different than each other its more a matter of veering off slightly from the center line. Not veering into oncoming traffic.
So when somebody posts something like "I am a week post op and I just love Cookies so much I am going to buy a box of oreos and eat just a few". My response is not going to be pretty.

I know it is different for everyone... However I was wondering when people started to go out... Not back to work... But just out. The reason I asking is because I was sleeved august 27... Three days ago ..... I have a hair appointment .. Just a wash and blow dry... Should I cancel it or go. I feel pretty good. Just curious when everybody else started to venture out.

Shavonna, very happy for you. I would stay away from anything acidic like Tomato Soup and fruit. Hang in there. You should feel good real soon. I never had a sick day and felt wonderful, and I feel bad for those who do not have it as easy. Always trust your body and gut instinct to tell you something is really wrong, but maybe having a restful weekend, you will feel better on Monday. Good luck!

    1. I can sleep at night without worrying my husband will be unconscious during the night when his blood sugar dropped to 40.
    2. I got a kayak for my birthday this month instead of a new recliner.
    3. I went to NOLA for 7 days last week and walked more than I have in 3 years.
    Blessed!

I have read about this pain from so many. We had only a little pain in the shoulder. We both had hiatal hernias but I am sure it is from the sleeving itself. The doctor mentions it could be another complication to cover his bases, but always remember when in doubt, trust your gut instinct and get to the ER! I hope you feel better son. Relax and rest.

Guilty too! I am going to stop having drinks near me when eating. I think I am eating slow and I look next to me and my husband has barely taken 2-3 bites and my plate is empty. Hang in there! We are living and learning! Good luck.

A pharmacist recommended Source of Life liquid Gold. I love the taste (fruity), and one bottle lasted about 3 months. I bought it on Amazon.com. I added some Iron pills later, and I take B-12 shots.

I am so happy to read all your comments ... It's great knowing there is a really good support system here. I have so many questions and concerns. I had my GI Series this morning so that my surgeon can repair a hernia I have at the same time he does the sleeve. I imagine I'll have more pain than just the sleeve surgery. When they say you'll go home with pain meds what do they mean? I thought we can't take pills. I really a chicken-poop when it come to pain. Any thoughts??

Sandstress, you didn't offend me at all with your posts. And I'm the OP of that "Why are some WLS patients so clueless" thread. Thank you for your contributions there.
I hope you keep posting authentically and transparently just exactly what you feel / think / are curious about. Besides, nobody's post is ever all they think about a topic or the last thing they will ever think about it.
In many ways, message boards are like a big city where some people grew up, others moved in from smaller towns, and others moved there from different countries. On these boards you find disparate cultures colliding with each other. The most unsophisticated visitors assume that their own personal values and culture are the superior values and cultures and should be reflected by everyone else on the board. They spend a lot of time bitching about how others aren't following their rules, making them more comfortable or meeting their needs.
This is a message board. It's not anything else. And you're not responsible for others' feelings.
    IMHO.

I'm kinda with you on not understanding why people are so clueless about some things.. I didn't go through with surgery to just go back to what was I was doing before. That's what got me in this mess to begin with! But.. that's me. And honestly, sometimes it's one of those things that's easier said than done. Also, I do realize that not every surgeon is as concerned about educating their patients as they should be and not every person is a proactive learner though. There are so many factors at play, everyone's experience can be incredibly different.. So while I don't totally get it, I also try not to judge too much either. I figure that's what this place is for.. a mix of people sharing their opinions and at least trying to learn something from it. I'm also of the mindset that sometimes people need a helping hand to guide them, and sometimes they need a swift kick in the ass to straighten them out. No need to apologize!

Anyway.. as far as excess skin goes, don't let anyone make you feel like you have to justify your reasons for worrying about it. It's a normal thing to be concerned about. I started out at 260 and am currently 172. I do have some loose skin. I don't necessarily like it, but it doesn't hang as much as it used to when it was filled with fat. I look and feel SO much better than I did before.. especially in clothes, no one can tell. So.. yeah. I don't have a perfect body naked, but it's still an improvement over what it used to be--loose skin and all.

You're welcome. Like RJ said everyone is different in how they have conversations. I've lost 100 pounds and my excess skin doesn't bother me but I'm not one to wear a bikini in public . I do wear a swimsuit about 3 to 5 times a week--a one piece for me. I will confess, I have had non-surgical work on my face and neck. I was getting Botox before surgery and after surgery I had the procedure where they use radio waves to tighten the skin on the neck. It has worked but not as well as surgery would. I'm saving money and if I can save enough, I'll have plastic surgery probably only on my "bat wings". I can live with my stomach and legs for now. To me, they don't look that bad. If I can save enough money in a few years I'll have more plastic surgery. I don't have any medical conditions that would cause my insurance to cover it--so I'll be financing it myself.
The reason I get in the pool is because no way in Hades could I do on land what I can do in the Water. I have so many orthopedic problems I can't exercise any other way. Walking is GREAT exercise if you can do it. Before I had to start using the pool, I was walking several miles at a time. If your body can tolerate it--keep walking and as you lose weight--up the distance. Walking is one of the least expensive ways to exercise since you usually only need a good supportive pair of shoes.
    I wish you the best,
    Kathleen

    Sandstress51,
I just read the string of posts you are referring to. I think many people are coming to this site in a heightened emotional state. People are in different stages of the process--going through the required supervised weight loss, getting all the pre-op work done, waiting for approval, getting approval and setting a date, going through surgery, recovery and subsequent absolute utter complete life changes. During all those stages we are all under a tremendous amount of stress. I think during all the stages peoples emotions are so raw and near the surface that things which would otherwise not bother us--set some people off. People who have not undergone a COMPLETE lifestyle change have no clue just how stressful it is. I don't have any answers but that is my theory as to why some posts turn more negative.
I hope your surgery goes well and you have an easy recovery.
    Blessings,
    Kathleen

Enjoy the journey. It sounds cheesy, but it's true.

Every size lost, every new pair of pants bought, every teeny victory is to be savored. The first time you can back your car up and actually turn around in your car seat comfortably, the first time you paint your toenails and can breath while doing so, the first time you can cross your legs, or wear a regular sized garment, or get up off the floor without rolling to your knees first, or wrap your fingers around your wrist, or feel your hipbones, your sternum, your tailbone...

There are so many little things that you will do and then realize you DID (cuz ohmygawd you've not done that in SO.FREAKING.LONG). When the scale stops moving for a few weeks (but your pants keep getting looser) you have to rejoice in all the little things that are happening to your body along the way, because those are what add up to the big things.
No one will ever see your number on the scale (unless you shamelessly tell people like I do at times), and rarely will someone know your clothing size (well...uhm...) but they WILL see you bounce up the stairs without huffing and puffing, they will see your confident posture and smile as you shop at a regular store, they will see you run after your kids or for the bus...

This WLS thing is awesome. Ridiculously awesome. Enjoy every minute of it.

ACK!!! That's the funkiest picture ever!! I was jumping the fire pit and had smoke in my eyes. A huge NSV? Not caring how ugly a picture is of myself. The fear of Facebook tagging no longer exists.

I see that, and I get tears in my eyes, cuz even though I am 2 inches taller than you, we have similar stats, and YOU ARE HOW I WANT TO LOOK!
