LindafromFlorida got a reaction from BeagleLover in Anyone Else Nesting Before Surgery?
I call it cleaning house and keeping busy which takes my mind off food, even now. Good luck.

LindafromFlorida reacted to McButterpants in I Feel Disgusted With My Self
You're fine. Just don't let that one sandwich turn into multiple sandwiches because you're beating yourself up.
Go out and take a walk. Get your mind off of what you did. Think about your future. Think about how important this is to you.
This part of your process will be over soon.
Hang in there.

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Why hide it?
In my case, my husband made the decision he did not want me discussing his (which means "our") surgery because we were both sleeved. He is like this about his finances and everything else. I respect his wishes and I realize now, 8 months later, that I like my privacy about the surgery. For instance, we go to a neighborhood club for dining and dancing, and our neighbors gush on and on, telling everyone about our weight loss. I am soooooo tired of this. Imagine if they knew we had surgery.

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from KarinaVSGinTX in 7 days post op and in pain :( Advice?
Fever means infection. Call your doctor. "Horrible pain" to me would mean to go to the ER.

Ahhhh...'k, makes sense. I didn't think about the Protein requirements. I'm just lazy and don't want to cook/blend things.

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from Murphy'sMama in What was your favorite thing to eat in the "pureed" stage?
Keep it simple. Refried heated from the can is delish. Top with Laughing Cow cheese, or taco sauce. Later on make your own Beans from dried or canned. Cook with FF chicken broth, celery, onion, bell pepper, season any way you cant. Love lowfat chili cooked with beans and ground turkey. Thank goodness I can tolerate spicy.

Good for you, Kate! Hoping all goes well for you with your surgery. I'm 65 and this has be Ben the best thing I've done for myself. Kind of hating on the saggy skin, but better than the 'puffy' skin. Let us know how things are going for you.

LindafromFlorida reacted to MarieR in Allergic to Nutrasweet, Splenda AND stevia
I was sleeved on 7/14. Had a tough time for the first 4 days. Am now at pureed/mushy foods and have lost 8 lbs. But I am struggling with getting in enough Protein because of food allergies.
Fortunately, pre-op, I was not someone who ate alot of sweets but this is turning into a big problem. I am allergic to aspartame, sucralose and stevia. Just about every Protein shake has one of those artificial sweeteners. So, I am having a very tough time. I got the "unflavored" stuff thinking that I would just add it to savory things (like soups). However, you cannot add it to anything warmer than 140 degrees F. That doesn't make savory things taste bad but it does mean that food is always lukewarm. UGH!
Any ideas for how to handle this? I am at my witts end trying to get in enough protein. And, by the way, this also affects the Vitamins I can take, the liquids I can drink . . . . I can't even have sugar-free things like frozen bars or pudding pops. I'm not a whiner but I really need some ideas.

LindafromFlorida reacted to NJTeacher in New Here
Hi everyone. I have been reading the boards for about a week and thought it was time to jump in. My name is Eileen and I will be having the VSG on November 12. My surgeon is Dr. Harish Kakkilaya from Woodstown/Salem in South Jersey. He comes highly recommended and I have had good interactions with him and his office staff from the beginning. I have had most of my pre-op requirements completed. I go tomorrow for an echocardiogram and next week for a stress test (pre-existing heart condition). They discovered a hiatal hernia during the upper GI, so Dr. K will fix that when he does the VSG. I still have to schedule a psych eval but the dr I want to see has been on vacation. Insurance has approved the operation. My main goal is to put my diabetes and hypertension in remission.

LindafromFlorida reacted to gottagonow in Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
I definitely struggle with knowing how much to put on my plate. It's usually too much b/c just a few bites does the trick. And even though I know that, it's still an issue.

LindafromFlorida reacted to mi75 in Question...what has been the hardest thing to deal with post op?
hey Linda thanks for the great Vitamin tip! i'm doing a Twin Lab chewable right now and it's GROSS. going to try your suggestion when these are gone!
for ME, the hardest thing post op is training my eyes/brain to understand how much my stomach will REALLY hold and not overfilling my plate at mealtimes. this may sound silly, but pre op i could easily eat two FULL or three FULL plates of most meals.
now i can have 3-4 tbsp of the meal entirely and i'm full. i have found myself at work lunches taking things that i can't even attempt to eat and it's sort of embarrassing to be taking so 'much'. i am taking MUCH smaller quantities than i used to, but they're still more than i can eat. i'm getting better at it, and today at a work lunch did pretty good and only had to throw out a small bit that i couldn't eat...

To Linda and others who have suffered a loss: I can only hope that you have other loved ones who can comfort you, hold you, and listen to you. I find that connecting with nature and a higher power gets me through a day at a time....sometimes a few minutes at a time.
