I won't lie, I did freak out on the day of the surgery and you will go through 1000 different emotions during this journey BUT every second of it was worth getting to where I am today! Good luck : - )

Hi everyone, I had my surgery on Thursday and everything is going well so far, it gets better day by day. Now I'm sure this question has been asked before BUT what did you tell people especially your work. I chose not to tell anyone at work about my decision mainly because it's personal and none of their business but also because of the rude fat comments I hear the directors make all of the time (one made at me a couple of years ago). My friend text me and said the directors have brought up my "mystery surgery" in front of 70 people. I'm not happy !!! I have no issue telling people to mind their own business but I have our national conference coming up in a couple if weeks and feel a little weird about going out for dinner with everyone. What did you tell your work colleagues?

Hi guys, I was sleeved 8days ago. I would recommend getting skim milk, Protein Shakes, chicken broth, low fat yoghurt, get bottles of cold Water in the fridge and most importantly some diet cordial!! That's all you'll need for the first 2 weeks good luck !

Sorry and yes get benefiber or something as you will get constipated unfortunately - I think that's from all the pain meds. Once I was off them I was fine.

Wow what a response !! Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. The decision to tell people or who you tell is a very personal one and I'm happy for those of you that feel as though you can shout it from the rooftop... Good on you !!! I definitely do not intend to lie to people but for my own personal interest I was wondering how others dealt with it. Especially for those that may work in the same environment as me and do not want the added stress. Again, thank you to those of you for sharing your thoughts !

Depends on how you want to play it....
    1) The combative method - walk into the directors' office and tell them, 'any more speculation in front of the whole office about my personal medical business and I'll have you before a tribunal quicker than your legs can carry you (not very good for the career prospects, but fundamentally, they are in the wrong on many levels.)
    2) The jokey method - Say in front of all the staff 'Oh, yeah, about my surgery, I'd just like to announce that I'm having a brain transplant. Reason? The medical community cannot believe I actually work here!'. Any follow up, smile and say 'with the greatest of respect, it really is none of your business.'
    3) Ignore them entirely. They'll get bored of the speculation eventually.
    4) Ham it up. Wait until some bozo chooses an inopportune and public moment to make a direct enquiry - promptly run away crying. They'll be scared shiteless that they've said something terribly wrong and after initial attempts at saying 'there there', will leave it be and probably avoid enquiring again like the plague.
    Best of luck!

    Hi Leah
I think all your questions are relevant and your fears completely normal. If you did not have these feelings then I would be worried. This decision you are about to make cannot be reversed, you can't get a refund, you need to identify that you have done everything you possibly could by diet and exercise first.
Your health obviously is the priority what comorbidities do you have or could possibly develop. I'm 3 weeks post op have had personal trainers / gym etc had a baby and still struggle with the weight loss. The week before my op I nearly killed myself in a car accident because of all the stress, was I making the right decision......
Post op; every day gets better no regrets the first four weeks are the hardest I reckon it's a total head fu** I lost 20lbs in the first week there was no way I could of lost that normally. I'm eating the same as my 2 yr old.
Support systems are paramount this journey will be an emotional roller coaster when they remove your sleeve it plays with your hormones.
Some people will support you others won't, you will find out who your true friends are.
Knowing that I can drop 80lbs, can prevent diabetes and heart disease etc and run around with my 2yr old, get my self esteem back, feels like I have been given a 2nd chance. I'm less scared now feel more in control, remember the sleeve is only a tool not a magic wand.
I wish you every success and happiness.

Whenever I thought of those horror stories I would just look in the mirror. Yeah, complications can happen but the problems a person is going to have being obese are guaranteed.

Another thing to do - to keep your mind off your fears - is to look at Before and After photos of other posters. Very enlightening.
