macman got a reaction from Quest4TheNewMe in When does the risk of DVT decrease?
I had surgery on 12/23/13. Two weeks later I was back in the hospital with a Pulmonary Embolism. I spent a week in Cardiac Intensive Care and then a week in the Pulmonary unit, followed by six months of Coumadin therapy.
i was a low risk candidate for DVT. I had no indicators and no risk factors to make anyone think it would be an issue. I did have Lovanox in the hospital and wore compression stockings. I did move around quite a bit and actually started walking on day three post surgery. If I had been identified as a possible risk there is a pre surgical therapy that could have been used.
Everyone agreed it was just a luck of the draw, albeit a scary one. It sounds like you are taking the necessary precautions. I do not know how long the potential risk period is, but at this point keep moving as much as you can.

macman got a reaction from Miss Mac in Daily menu
For me they key is satiety. I need to feel full for as long as possible. I find I can do that by making sure I eat three meals a day of dense, quality Protein. 4 ounces of meat, pork, chicken or fish keeps me full for 3-4 hours at a time. I usually start each day with a homemade Protein shake which contains 35 grams of Protein and keeps me satisfied for 3-4 hours in the morning
I do 2 regular Snacks a day which tide me over until my next meal. They are usually, yogurt, cheese or almonds. Sometimes I use the Snacks to round out my dietary needs with fats and carbs. An apple with Peanut Butter is a very satisfying snack
Be careful you are not eating too little. That can stall your progress significantly.
The Water is important, Not only does it provide fluids for necessary body functions, it helps prevent dehydration and can stall hunger between meals. 64 ounces is a minimum, especially if you exercise.

macman got a reaction from mondaylady in shakes with bananna
I do add a 3 inch section of banana to a Protein shake on occasion. I slice them and put them into the freezer in a baggie. They are available when I need to use them in a shake. They make a nice icy consistency.
Like any other choice bananas need to fit into your food plan.

macman got a reaction from Hagar.vsg in Recommendations to lose 100 lbs
I agree with not putting yourself into a timeframe. I am goal oriented and having a target helped, but make sure it is attainable. The weight loss happens when it happens. As long as you are steadily progressing towards the goal don't worry about how long it takes.
Follow the plan from your surgeon, drink Water, and Protein first. 10 months post surgery, I still track every day because it works for me.
One thing that also worked well for me was to closely monitor food intake and steadily increase calories and carbs as my body needed the energy for exercise. Whenever I was stuck or weight loss slowed, adding calories allowed the weight loss to continue.

macman got a reaction from BeagleLover in Protein Shakes!
I am a fan of Protein shakes. I primarily use chocolate Splendor, vanilla and strawberry Sorbet. I usually mix with ice, skim milk and Torani sugar free syrups. The syrups are great: Hazelnut, Almond Roca, Coconut and Salted Caramel. I also use Chike coffee flavored Protein, PB2 (Peanut Butter flavor) and Syntrax Nectars Fuzzy Navel. I like making my own versus the pre mixed.
Quest will begin selling their new line of protein powder tomorrow. I will have to check them out!

macman got a reaction from Texasmeg in December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log
Hi Jamie
I agree that 600 calorie sounds pretty low for your stage in the process. I still track because it works for me. I have been eating 1300-1400 calories a day.
You might consider getting back to basics with proper amounts of Water, Protein and carbs until you feel like your back on track. I like the shake idea. I still do one a day for 30-35 grams of protein

macman got a reaction from krispv777 in Food Journal?
I have been using MFP with my FitBit for just over a year. The combination works well for me. MFP covers most of the nutrition needs. It is rare that I can't account for foods in the listing and I can always add recipes and log favorites
