So Hard!
I tell everyone that I want the band done. I tell them what process I have to go through, and that I have to wait a year with supervised diet and exercise. Some think I'm nuts, others, mostly the heavy set also, think it is wonderful that I'm doing this. I don't care what they think. It just doesn't matter, what does matter is me. I'm doing this for me. Not for anyone else. Just me.

Just saying "HI"
Hi Mendypoo, I too am just starting the process. I started in May and I too have to do the supervised diet thing....for a year!! Required by my insurance! I was hoping it wouldn't be that long but they said a year it is. But hey, at least I'm working on it and I have all the support a person could ask for between this forum and at home. Hubby is a saint! Good luck!

Anyone in Western Mass?
I'm Barbara, and I just started my journey in May. I will have my surgery done at Baystate in Springfield by Dr. Fiallo. I have no date yet as I have Health New England and they require a year of doc supervised diet. I have most of my other appointments done........I just have to wait, and wait, and wait.

Anyone in MA have Health New England?
My insurance is Health New England. I was told it would be a year before I would know if I am approved for the lap band. A year!! I have already been to most of the required doctors and specialist, have attended support groups and seminars, even the psych doc says I'm the perfect nut for this surgery! I just started this journey in May........and I'm bummed that I will have to wait a year!:think

I'm Approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Congrats! You have also listed some very helpful ideas to get ahead of time. I like the idea of the bullet mixer since I don't have a food proccessor, this would be perfect for me. Thanks and lots of luck. Keep us posted!

Hello everyone...
I live in MA, and I started this adventure in May. I have been to the seminar, the support groups, the dietician, the weight loss specialist, the psych doc, and on Friday I'm scheduled for the fitness dude! I don't expect to know if my insurance will approve me until sometime next year as they require a year of supervised dieting.....hence the weight loss specialist/nutritionist. ...deep sigh....I just have to keep plugging away at it and wait!

Banded Bikers II
How long after being banded were you able to get back on and ride? I just found out my insurance requires a year of supervised dieting, not 6 months like I was told. A year from now puts me in the height of riding season here in Massachusetts!

10 lbs.....to get approved!
This is the first I've heard someone is required to gain weight! I have to lose it before I will be ready for surgery.
-
Beware And Be Aware-those Who Take Bp Meds!!!
Thanks for the info. I will certainly keep that in mind when I finally do get banded! I would not have thought it would be so quick either. So glad you are safe and sound.

Who would you rather marry?
I agree, my husband is my best friend and a romantic. He's everything to me. The best part, he feels the same about me and he shows it!

I have a date with Destiny
Congrats on your date. You must be very excited!!

Hello (introduction)
Congrats on your loss! I don't think 22 lbs is a small amount. I think slow but steady might be the best way to go. I'm sure when you have reached your goal, you will think back and smile. Hang in there. I'm still waiting...........

Home from Hospital!!
Congrats! I hope you start to feel better soon. Good luck!

Did your insurance cover your lap-band?
My insurance covers it if you meet their criteria. I have Health New England. I was led to believe it was 6 months with supervised diet and a bunch of other stuff, ie: psych, dietician, exercise,. But this morning I was told it is a year of supervised diet. How discouraging!

Banded Bikers II
Hi, I ride my own also. I have a 2005 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. Love my bike!! I've just started my journey to be banded. I have no date as of yet. Probably not for 6 months or so. Which could be a good thing cuz that means it will be winter. I live in Massachusetts and Hubby and I ride all over. I love the long trips! Hope they don't stop after banding but I don't see why they would.

Going to the Shrink
I go Monday for my first visit with the psych doc. I guess they will find out I really am nuts!

Where in Mass. is everyone from?
Dr. Fiallo is also my surgeon. I just started the program so I have no idea just yet when or if I will qualify for banding. I have my fingers crossed, have high hopes, and lots of prayers. My name is Barbara and I live, work, and play in Westfield, MA.

My Year Two Bandiversary!
I too am just beginning my band journey. Thank you for your post, I found it interesting and very informative. I have no date yet as I do have to go through a 6 month supervised diet per my insurance company and in the mean time I'm trying to absorb all the info and suggestions I can to be successful. Thank you!

Newbie in Massachusetts

Newbie in Massachusetts
Hi, my name is Barbara. I'm 48 years old and I am going through the program for Lap-band. Since I've just started the program, I think my surgery will be in December 2007 or January 2008 as my insurance carrier requires a 6 month program. I look forward to reading all of your post as I believe I will find lots of help here with questions and concerns.
