  1. I'm ready for the big day! I'm the first surgery of the day on Monday at 7:30am, arriving at the hospital at 5:30am! Mom is SUPER excited about that, haha! Today is my last day of Protein shakes pre-surgery; tomorrow I am on Clear liquids only (broth, popsicles, fruit juice, etc). Still doing daily exercise (I even JOGGED for part of my walk this morning...I haven't jogged since I was forced to in high school P.E.) and humming along! Yesterday I had a 2.5-hour pre-op class at my hospital just to confirm everything and go over post-op instructions, as well as get my EKG & chest x-ray. Can't wait to DO THIS! Good luck to my fellow 8/19ers!
  2. This looks SO good! Man, I can't wait until I can chew. Haha!
  3. Ohhhh girl! Disneyland is my JAM! My most favorite place; I go about every other month. I'm still pre-op (surgery on Monday!) but let's see...you could bring some unflavored
  4. Do you have a store like Road Runners or Fleet Feet close by? You might want to do a Yelp search or Google search for independent athletic shoe shops like these near you. There are some great brands (Asics, Brooks, Saucony) but it's a good idea to spend the extra time & a little extra money to be professionally fitted! That way they can watch you walk & jog, etc. and fit you with the perfect pair! Good luck!
  5. LOL, I quoted the same thing in my comment earlier in the thread!
  6. Sure thing! I was made to pee at the hospital but barely anything came out. I'm willing to bet you just need some more time to come off of the anesthesia! You'll be just fine!
  7. Yikes! Good thing you got it checked out! I've had shingles and it is SO uncomfortable and painful. Last thing you need during this time, and I'm sorry! Hang in there! The meds should help quite a bit! Damn you, chickenpox! *shakes fist at the sky*
  8. Congratulations on your surgery! I don't know for sure, but in my past experience with anesthesia, it takes some time for your bladder to "wake up," so that may be why they had to do your peein' for ya! Sounds like you're doing great; glad to hear it!
  9. I'm ready too! On day 7 of the liquid diet...we had a gourmet pizza-making class as part of a work event yesterday and it was SO HARD!! Everything smelled amazing! But still, no cheating. Oh, I also discovered the joy of Syntrax Mint chocolate Cookie Protein powder...it is SO GOOD! I've been having that at night with soy milk, I chill it in the freezer after mixing so it is almost like a milkshake, and it's rocking my world! Highly recommended! Liquid diet on Sunday will likely be a pain, but hey, if I can do this (full) liquid diet for 9 days, the 10th should be a piece of cake! Mmm...cake. Haha! Good luck to all of us! By 9:30am on Monday, I'll be sleeved!
  10. Welcome! Sorry to hear about your current frustrations. I'm getting sleeved this Monday, so I can't speak to how to best deal with those, but I just wanted to welcome you to the site! I'm sure you'll feel better in no time!
  11. You. Look. AMAZING!!! Holy crap! That 30-Day Shred is an ass-kicker...I'm doing it now! It definitely gets results, though! Congrats on your tremendous success! Very inspiring.
  12. Hi everyone: Today, I attended a workshop at work regarding the power of unconscious bias, and how it affects all of us in our daily lives. Of course, many of us are probably already aware of the biases we may possess—but there are some that can surprise you! There's a website for Project Implicit, created at Harvard, that allows you to take 10-15 minute interactive tests to judge your unconscious biases on everything from gender to race to—wait for it—even weight. You may have to enter your email to participate, but the tests are free, and very interesting! https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/selectatest.html Try it out, and let me know what you thought, what surprised you, etc! Curious to see people's feedback.
  13. You can buy it on their website!
  14. Guuuurl, you look AMAZING! Your hard work is paying off in spades, congratulations!! And I see you're wearing a San Jose Sharks shirt--I'm from San Jose and live on the Peninsula now!
  15. Congrats, Daydra! So great that you're having a good recovery. My surgery is on Monday, hope I have a similar story! Thank you for sharing your story.
  16. That is honestly disgusting. What a horrible salesperson. I am SO GLAD you went back and gave it to the manager...reminds me of Pretty Woman! "Big mistake! HUGE! I have to go shopping now."
  17. So glad this site has helped you; it has helped me a bunch too! Don't be a stranger to the forums though--feel free to ask questions and to share your experiences. After all, without all of these awesome people sharing their stories, none of us would know what to expect! Good luck starting the process!
  18. Sounds like you are on the right track! Great job, keep it up!
  19. Congrats! That's a great NSV -- one that shows how much you've improved your overall health. And if that's your dog in your profile picture, he/she is ADORBS!!
  20. I feel like posts like this only stir the pot and invite drama, even if they're not meant to. By saying there are certain people who are judgmental/harsh on certain occasions, but then not providing examples, it just creates more confusion—who does she mean? What post is she referring to? Could it be ME? I'm not saying that there aren't people on this site that seem to be quick to jump in and offer their (strong) opinions readily. That absolutely happens, and in the short few months I have been a part of this site, I already know whose opinions to take with a grain of salt. It's a personal thing, of course. I totally understand that some people can be a bit harsh and that WLS is a very emotional process for all of us here, and we should be respectful of that and craft our responses with care and consideration of the feelings of others. However, I for one don't particularly have much sympathy for people who pop on and start posts about how they're cheating on their pre-op diet (you have your instructions, and those instructions need to be followed for your own health and safety) or people who complain because they're feeling pain after eating Flamin' Hot Cheetos 5 days post-op (come on, really!?) In most cases, I just tend to keep on scrollin'...or even better, I go over to the Recipe Sharing board which is SO MUCH FUN to browse and so very useful! (Um, I'm on Day 5 of 10 of my pre-op liquid diet...can you tell that I'm HUNGRY!? )
  21. This is an agnostic/atheist sub-forum, and there are also other religious sub-forums on this site. Faith and/or personal belief systems play a large role in the weight loss process for many people, and that's why these boards are here. So people can discuss their thoughts/feelings with others and how they influence their weight loss experiences.
  22. Thanks for the thread, Butter, and very well-said, Gamergirl. I consider myself an atheist. When I was younger, I was much more anti-organized religion, and as I've aged, I've become much more tolerant. Live and let live, just don't try to push your beliefs on me, and I won't do it to you. My choice has not played any part in my lifelong struggle with weight nor does it play a choice in my current dedication to a healthier lifestyle. I have made the decision because it's the smart one to make, it's for my health, and I attribute my strength in staying the course to no one other than myself and my own hard work and perseverance. Butter, like you, I also tend to have adverse reactions to authority. I prefer to live by rules that make the most sense for me, and don't react well to having to operate under the rule system of others. It has made me stubborn, but strong. The hardest thing for me is battling with my own brain—the large part of me that knows I need to become healthy, wants to make major changes, is often silenced by the bossy, stubborn part of my brain that tells me to "eat whatever you want and feel happy." I'm just now realizing that food does not equal happiness...and that's a conclusion that I am proud to say came from my own noggin...no credit to a "higher power" needed.
  23. You can do it! My surgery is on August 19th also. Today is Day 5 of my all-liquid, OptiFast diet. It does get easier after the first 3 days. Incorporate some exercise in as well if you can, like long walks...I've found that it curbs my appetite.
