I just lightly salt the Water that I use to steam it. I used to use the chunky sea salt on top, but am loving my ankles now and don't want to see them disappear in a cloud of edema lol!

Steamed edamame, steamed snow peas, any kind of grilled squash (same prep as previous posting).

Well you are only one week out so you need to be careful with your new tummy. I think that maybe you could turn the focus off food and find another way to Celebrate? Do a little clothes shopping. Get a pedi and sip some tea? Your food options are so limited and the risk is far greater then the reward. Celebrate your b-day knowing that you made a choice for yourself and you will no longer be a slave to food. You aren't being a party pooper if you are taking care if yourself. Happy 30th birthday!! Welcome to the 30s club!!

Is squash a vegetable? I'm a huge fan. I don't cook, but my husband cuts up yellow squash (summer squash) and green squash (zucchini) into a bunch of little rounds-think checkers pieces. He puts it in evoo with onion and salt and pepper in a pan and cooks it covered on low for 20ish minutes until soft, stirring as needed. I love it. Not sure of the carb count in squash though? He cooks fresh green Beans in a similar manner.
Spaghetti squash is another favorite for me, but we pretty much solely use it as spaghetti noodles. Cut in half, take out the seeds and cook in the oven on 350 for an hour. When it comes out, scrape the guts with a fork lengthwise. He puts a little evoo and salt and pepper on it too. Then we add spaghetti sauce and ground turkey. Note- if anyone has any other ideas for ways to use spaghetti squash, I'd love to hear it.
I'm also not sure if mushrooms are considered vegetables, but I like portobello mushrooms topped with tiny shrimp and cheese.

Your recipe sounds delish! I may just try that too!
I love all veggies but I think my favorites are broccoli & spinach. I just steam my broccoli in some lightly salted Water & then drain, place in a bowl & drizzle some EVOO on it. That's it & it's delish!
Spinach, I like to mince some garlic in EVOO in a pan & just heat it enough where the garlic scent releases & then quickly add spinach to it & sautee it till it wilts with just a sprinkle of salt & pepper. I love to serve that on top of a fried egg too, but also just have it as a side dish. OH! Also zucchini sliced long ways & marinated in Light Italian Dressing (any brand) & then grill! OMG, so delish! BTW, I'm not sleeved yet! Hope I can still eat all that stuff after!

Heybaby, really, you went back and dug up a month old thread just so you can further instigate a topic that has already been argued to death and caused a great deal of dissension on the forums? Please people, the arguing, name calling, etc. has gone on long enough. Lets get back to what our website is here for, and be supportive of one another instead of jumping from thread to thread to see what new, ridiculous fighting can be brought up with regards to this subject. If you want to keep it up, I will be more than happy to start issuing bans if that is what it takes to bring peace back here.

It's unfortunate how many people are incapable of critical thinking or reading skills on this forum. As I thought I made perfectly clear before, the only thing my story has in common with the girl in question's is that s1ut shaming can happen to anyone, regardless of how much proof is presented and it is always inappropriate and wrong. It has no place in any type of support group. You all are so sure of what you think happened but none of you seem to be aware your reactions/responses are conditioned. Thoughtfulness is a virtue, though it is quickly disappearing from our society, I'm afraid.
I'm sure the doctor had his chance to explain himself. It certainly helped him that the girl retracted her statement. Even in the US doctors are afforded the opportunity because they are so hard to replace. You can be sure Mexico is no different, especially with prevailing machismo attitudes.
I would agree about this beating a dead horse, but the next time a patient goes through a similar experience and they seek support, they should know there are thoughtful people out there who will listen and not judge. Such folks are outnumbered unfortunately.

I posted my story because I am sick of the s1ut shaming that I saw going on here on this forum, where it does NOT belong, not to be patronized. You need to grow up, lady.

I have been reading these related threads the last few days but felt since I wasn't involved in any way I should refrain from commenting. But since I work in a hospital I have seen instances where doctors had inappropriate relationships with patients. Doesn't always mean sex, flirtation is more common but is NOT appropriate behavior for a physician. It isn't usually reported at the time because the patients involved seemed either ashamed right after the fact and wanted to forget it, or they were enthralled with their doctor and the doctor strung them along for a time hoping to avoid disciplinary action. Regardless of consent, doctors are always in a position of power over patients. That is why any hospital or clinic worth their salt takes disciplinary action against doctors who abuse the doctor-patient relationship. Mine certainly does, and they do investigate the incidents carefully.
As for the rampant **** shaming that has gone on in these threads - I am appalled and disgusted. You ladies should be ashamed of yourselves. Another member corroborated her story and other patients alleged similar behavior from this doctor. Even if you don't believe her story or you took her retraction as truth, you stooped to the gutter level by outing her and harassing her. This man wasn't fired and I'm betting based on Dr. Garcia's Facebook message that he will be exonerated, rightly or wrongly. So congratulations to those who have a misguided mission of protecting this doctor's unethical behavior.
You may think this story is clear-cut and that this is an obvious instance of a woman scorned, but consider this: I was raped in college and beaten in the course of the attack. I did everything I was supposed to -went to the hospital, had painful and invasive tests, filed a police report, had my day in court. From the day my rapist was arrested I was harassed and **** shamed by his girlfriend, his friends, and the university itself. I was threatened with bodily harm and death. I was called a crazy **** who had buyers remorse. My rapist's defense attorney convinced the jury of this too and he was acquitted. I am not saying my story is similar to the story at hand, but what is similar and deeply troubling is the way women gang up on each other rather than support each other. I grow so tired of it.

HappyCat reacted to jennyblue111 in For those who have binge eating disorder, how has it developed post-op?
I was sleeved in August. & I can relate to all I've heard so far. As for me, I got off Prozac about 2 months ago, & am trying to not medicate (all Dr. regulated). I can tell a big difference in what I call my "Oprah" eating~ emotional eating. When I feel out of control or unwanted emotions, I'm definitely leaning on food for comfort for the 1st time since surgery. I can't really binge b/c i simply can't hold that much, but i find i continually graze, & I'm definitely not using food as fuel like I should. I've lost 75lbs; these last 2 months I've gained for the 1st time. 5lbs.
The good news.. I have a place I can tell on my illness..here, my Dr., my accountability partner, family, & friends. & telling on it is HUGE for me. These days binging consists of bad food choices like 1 ice cream bar, 5 Dove chocolate squares, 2 servings healthy trail mix, 2 servings of granola, 1 serving of Kettle chips, a roll.. individually, not together, cuz my stomach only holds so much. So it's not nearly the binging sizes or bad choices it used to be! & 5lbs in 2 months.. Although that was traumatizing mentally, to gain instead of loose, I'm learning my surgery was not a life cure, it was just a do-over, & I need to use my post-surgery program, support, & common sense the rest of my life!
This surgery was the best thing that ever happened to me physically, mentally, emotionally. It's a do-over not a cure. I'm a human being; I need to give myself a break sometimes. & I need to use the tools I have gained to stay healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually..& physically. I get out of it what I put I to it.
I wish u all the best. You'll get amazing things out of it too.. as long as you do the work. & if u have small moments in time u do t feel like doing the work, don't beat yourself up. & if u have long moments, seek help.

Awww thanks everyone. I asked to be knocked out last night and woke up at 6am. By noon I was discharged and now I am home. Doing better no nausea for two days. Able to sip liquids ok. Ate half Protein Shake but ewww.....not ready for that taste sensation yet. I'm just so tired. Came home to a dirty house. Wow what happened it was clean before I went in? So my hubby and daughter are cleaning up as we speak. Hoping a good nights sleep will give me more energy tomorrow.

Explain to him that it will be much better once you have had time to heal and build up your strength and stamina. This is a serious surgery and while it didn't cause him any pain, you are the one who went through it in order to get healthier and more active. The baby steps are at your pace and you will certainly let him know when you are ready. My husband was the opposite. He was so scared of hurting me and we waited five or six weeks. But, boy was it worth it for both of us! I, like you, did not have much of a libido for quite some time before the surgery. Just having that initial 25 lbs off made such a diffence in how I felt about myself, I can't begin to tell you. Your husband should be patient a little longer and it will be worth the wait. I wish you both well

I canceled my appointment for an endoscopy and possible dilation today. Over the last week, I've started being able to eat moist meats without throwing it all back up. I can get down 8-16 ounces of Water in 15 minutes or less and if/when I gulp it down more quickly without thinking, it hurts, but it stays down.
I've had quiche, homemade BBQ (lean pulled pork from the crock pot), a bit of hamburger, shredded chicken, and a Protein Bar and it all stayed down. I've gone from vomiting 2-4 times a day to only once in a week.
I do think I was eating too fast or taking too big of bites. Using those ridiculous little baby utensils that other suggested work for me as does walking around a bit after each bite to slow myself down. An added benefit? I've been getting my 10k steps in and I can burp like a champ.
I think I'm good. I'm excited to start moving into different foods and I hope to never see anything else mayo based again!
    I AM SO HAPPY!
Thank you for all the well wishes, notes of support and encouraging words. Y'all rock and I appreciate it.

I was just open with everyone where I worked bc i knew that it would be so noticeable and that i wouldn't feel right explaining to they later why I didn't tell them. It made things a whole lot easier for me. It was the right decision for me. I didn't care if others thought that I was a failure at weight loss bc I know that i wasn't. I'm just thankful I was able to have this life changing procedure to a healthier life style....

I felt good at Day 6 (able to drink 24oz of Water in an hour) at my first pre-op appointment. Took my kitties to the vet on Day 7 (with my boyfriend along for the ride and to lift the kitty carriers). Went to a former boss' retirement party about 80 miles from my house on Day 8. I was exhausted quickly with all of these activities and continued to nap, sip, nap, sip. I returned to my desk job on Day 10 (including a 3+ hour commute)...and was flat wiped out by the end of that work week.
I'm now 3.5 weeks out and my energy is still not what it was pre-op, but I'm sure part of it is the low calorie consumption!
I will say, too, that I've been told I had a speedy, textbook recovery...and I still take it easy on myself every day. I know I'm not fully healed yet (the purees are a constant reminder!) and I know that I won't be for awhile.
Like I said before, it gets infinitely better every day. Take it easy, take care of yourself and don't rush the process - long-lasting consequences can happen if you don't get your rest, fluids, Protein, etc. Your body will guide you

I was scared of having a stroke or heart attack since both run in my family. Plus I have high BP, high triglycerides, insulin resistance, hypothyroid, PCOS and had tried everything for so many years and could not get the weight off. I was not living life and the thought of rolling on toward increasing health problems was what motivated me to attend a WLS seminar. The risk of continuing down the path of certain early death outweighed the risks that VSG had compared with the possibility of a longer life with immensely improved health and quality. I sincerely hope that those who experienced complications will recover and enjoy the fruits of their labor in the end. Everyone deserves the healthier outcome that this surgery can provide. I am looking forward to my next visit with my surgeon (3 month post surgical) as he will check my labs at that time. I am so hoping to have normal cholesterol levels and be able to discontinue my BP meds (already cut in half!).
Just look inside your heart and ask yourself if you can live with any comorbidities or possible side effects of your current weight or medications or if you are willing to take the plunge- risks and all - to give yourself a healthier future with this tool. You have to be willing to follow through by committing to a new lifestyle that does not involve food as a stress-reliever or reward system. And you have to make exercise an important part of your new lifestyle. Otherwise, this surgery (and it is not easy) could be all for nothing. I really loved food before and don't hate it now. I just look at the quality and type of food I put into my body as I love my life even more.
Good luck with your decision and know that you will have support here whatever it may be.

I've had no problems. Can you emagine what people would be saying if we had all posted about our problems when we were heavy? A typical post would be-high blood pressure-feet hurt-back is killing me-sugar to high-knees hurt and on and on! Now that most of us have lost weight our complaints are mostly gone. I was actually pretty healthy when I was heavy but my god loosing 145 pounds makes me feel like a million bucks!
