  1. Since we can only put so much food in our pouch, why not choose the healthiest and tastiest options? Wow, there are some really delicious recipes out there that are both nutritious and low carb/fat, etc. I'm going to still have cookouts, I'll just cook the "heavy fillers" for the guest and make sure I put in a couple of "healthy gourmet dishes" for us body conscious peeps. No need to suffer in our journey.
  2. That's it... you've got this:)
  3. "It’s a scientific fact – something in motion tends to stay in motion. Momentum builds quickly and can lead to great results. Suddenly, you’re not only working for the goal, but also to keep your streak alive. Even more reason to reach your goals." It's time to get motivated peeps, let's do this! Put up that goal outfit or picture, and let's get this show on the road:) #needtotakethishealthinesstonextlevel
  4. I was told that either the liquids or chewable were fine. I personally take the liquid vitamins (I can share the info for it, if interested -- just PM me), but then chewables for the B12, Calcium and Omega-3s with DHA.
  5. I've had sugar-free hard candy, but should warn that it should only be consumed in limited quantities. The sugar alcohols in some sugar-free products are laxatives, and at the early stages you don't want dehydration issues (not to mention spending all your time on the throne).
  6. Some suggested soft foods might include: Scrambled eggs (soft, boiled, poached), Egg Salad, Tuna Fish moistened well with low-fat mayo, Chicken Salad, Salmon moistened with mayo (no celery or hard pieces of veggie), Cottage Cheese , Mild low-fat cheese, Mashed, canned or cooked fruit, Mashed, canned or well cooked veggies, Refried beans with a bit of low-fat cheese, Pressure cooked meats to tenderize, Soft fresh banana, Occasional mashed sweet potato, Yogurt, Occasional baked, mashed potatoes (yes, these are carbs, but your body does need some)
  7. You will be eating soon enough, and enjoying your foods - albeit in smaller quantities. I'm in the mushy phase and just made the most delicious cauliflower "pizza" ... there are many recipes that are mushy, healthy and simply delicious. You will be more discriminating as to what you eat because you can only have a small amount. Just be patient and things will get better soon. At 3.5 weeks out, I feel awesome!!
  8. Ha-ha-ha. I've been laughing so hard reading these. I have tears streaming down my face. And we actually bought into this crap out of desperation ... Another one is the candy diet... I think I did it in college - you would just eat hard candy all day.... seriously.
  9. They are any foods that don't provide any real nutritional value and/or that don't provide restriction. Ex: potato chips ... and I found out mashed potatoes/potato salad are sliders for me - I can eat more than I should. Like my surgeon said over and over again ... protein and produce, if you stick to these, you won't have a problem. It's just hard in the beginning phase since you just want to eat something that feels good - that and head hunger.
  10. Potatoes are a slider. Yes, I found this out too. No more potatoes for me for a while.
  11. Ok... so I was cleaning out my files and found some of the ridiculous diets I've done in the past. For fun, let's list all the fad diets we've tried in past (of which some did work, but we gained all the weight back as soon as we were off of it). Wow, can't believe I actually thought some of these were good ideas:) These don't even count the popular ones like HCG, Atkins, South Beach, etc. Here goes: Grapefruit diet Miracle Soup diet (i.e. cabbage soup diet) Sacret Heart Hospital Diet for Overweight Heart Patients (summary: 7 day diet in which you ate specific foods - Day 1 - all fruits, except bananas; Day 2 - all veggies, no starches; Day 3 - eat day 1 and day 2 foods; Day 4 - eat up to 8 bananas and 8 glasses of skim milk, you can have the cabbage soup; Days 5-6 - beef and veggies; Day 7 - brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and veggies. Cleveland Clinic Diet (summary: 3 day diet that must be followed exactly - works on chemical breakdown)
  12. This is a decision only you can make. Make a list of pros and cons, and do your research.
  13. The Theory of Fat Availability: •There is a set amount of fat that can be released from a fat cell. •The more fat you have, the more fat can be used as a fuel when dieting. •The less fat you have, the less fat can be used as a fuel when dieting. •Towards the end of a transformation, when body fat is extremely low you may not have enough fat to handle a large caloric deficit anymore. At the extreme low end, when your body fat cannot ‘keep up’ with the energy deficit you've imposed on your body, the energy MUST come from SOMEWHERE. This is when you are at risk of losing lean body mass during dieting (commonly referred to as ‘starvation mode’). This happens at extremely low levels of body fat, under 6% in men and 12% in women [Friedl K.E. J Appl Phsiol, 1994]. -Brad Pilon and John Barban (from The Reverse Taper Diet in The Adonis Index and Venus Index manuals)
  14. What are you eating at 7 days post op?
  15. You might want to ask your surgeon. Mine said no compression garments for the first couple of weeks. Maybe so the wounds could heal and breathe? I didn't ask why.
  16. Wow! 70 lbs.!! That's incredible.
  17. I wouldn't take anything besides (maybe) a cough drop without talking to your doc first.
  18. How about forgoing the shakes for a while and drinking clear proteins like Isopure? Or putting plain unflavored protein powder in your yogurt? How long ago did you have your surgery?
  19. I haven't had a problem with water, just things that were too cold. I would always drink room temp water and was fine. Now, I'm able to drink cold water with no problems.
  20. Totally normal and will go away soon. Tell him to take smaller sips.
  21. I'm two weeks out and my incisions are completely closed. I will probably give it a couple more days just to make extra sure before I hit the pool.
  22. I find no need to say anything to anyone. I only took two days off from work and haven't lost that much weight yet. Plus, I don't want anyone monitoring my progress or what I eat. I did this for me.
