I'm sorry those hurtful things were said to you.
I don't see in your picture that you look like a little old man...other than the fact you are wearing light colored jeans...ha! Maybe it's time for a fashion make over So my suggestion...go shopping and buy clothes that are a little more "in"...dark, skinny jeans to go with your new body. Flip through some magazines and see what's "in" for guys in their thirties, and go with it.
Get rid of the little old man image of light jeans and polos...ha!
You have done an amazing job. Be proud of yourself...we are!

Dude.....you look awesome!!! Do not listen to the haters. I had a mean old rotten (now ex) husband who commented (after a successful 50 pound Atkins weight loss) "Every time you lose weight, you get jowls." Once when I had just gotten down to a healthy 135, the husband of a church friend frequently commented on how hungry I looked. Recently, my daughter told me of a t-shirt that said: YOU DO YOU.

rebecca_dsu got a reaction from kw2walker in Will I fit in the Airplane seat?
What airline are you flying with? Check their "customers of size" policy on their website.
Airline seats are 17 to 18" wide. If you aren't flying with a person who is smaller than you and you can "share" their space (like I did with my little bitty husband), then for your comfort and the people next to you, you probably do want to buy 2 seats. Some airlines will refund the cost of the second seat if the flight isn't full.
Even my arse at 260 and 5'8" is wider than 17" when seated. (to check yours, simply sit on a tape measurer. And it's not just the width of your arse, it's the broadness of your shoulders. If they are going to be over the line and into the next person's seat, then it is best to buy 2 seats (or fly business class if you have airline points or the funds).
It sucks, but it's another "cost" of being obese.
    Happy flying!

rebecca_dsu got a reaction from shoopaie in Is it normal to feel weak and tired?
Well, let's see.... not only are you asking your body to just live on minimal energy, but you are asking also asking it to workout on minimal energy. Your body needs food. Yes it can use fat to "survive", but it's going it's not going to be "energetic". You have got to eat the minimal 600 - 800 calories (the top of that range if you are working out), and you have to get in the required fluids and protein.
So no, it's not normal to feel weak & tired if you are following the eating guidelines.... but yes you will feel weak & tired if you are not giving your body what it needs. Also, are you taking those Vitamins including B-12??
Give your body what it needs, and it will give you the energy you need.

I had so many of your feelings and fears. Very similar. I felt like I wrote your blog. The first few weeks after surgery I was very careful to not direct my anger toward my family members. It wasn't my husband's or my children's fault/choice/or decision to have this surgery. YOU must be clear with your self that this surgery is only for you. Because if it is not- you will struggle more. Every time you get mad at your husband - the urge to eat will be strong. You have to do the surgery - only for you. Or it won't be as successful as it could be. You really can't let yourself "wonder" if this is going to work for you. You HAVE to make it work for you. The surgery is only a tool that will give you a small window of time to break your bad habits and start your new life with better behavior techniques. Good luck and counseling with the right behavior therapist will absolutely help with your addiction.
I enjoy sugarfree gum like there is no tomorrow. It really helps me with the head hunger and the mouth hunger. And it really helps with my addiction to food.

You and me are soul sleeve sisters! I so feel this post! Very well written and I have taken the the same approach as you as I get closer to the day! I am a sugar addict and my food funerals has been making me feel the same way. I was so about to give in, read this and thought nope I can do this! Thanks for indirectly bringing back to reality! Have fun on your trips and good luck with surgery!

Wonderful post--love what you said above. You can do this!! You are clearly mentally prepared, you already love exercise and being active, and I have no doubt that you will succeed. You will be amazed at how the whole dynamic between you and food will change. You will be on the offensive and not the defensive. You may even become friends again--a healthy friendship though.

I already have really thin hair (pre surgery), so I'm being diligent to take my biotin, multivitamins and vitamin e every day before surgery, as well as getting in atleast 80 to 100 grams of protein per day. I don't know if it will help or not, but it sure won't hurt to try

I am a CARBOHOLIC sure enough. I also can not eat just one of anything sweet or salty. It is a curse but we have to learn to live with it the best we can. I wish u knew an answer, I would share. The only answer is to not take the first bite. If you find another PLEASE share with me.

Rtd210. I was the same way as you early out but let me warn you. I am 5 months out now and the horrible cravings are back. At 3 months I introduced crackers to my diet and that is all it took. Then a bite of bread a few of DH fries. Then a taste of his dessert or ice cream. This past week has been a disaster. I have grazed on all the wrong things. Today I literally threw up because of all I ate and I have not thrown up at all during the whole 5 months. I hope this was enough for me to start anew. I was so angry with myself.
Just warning everyone that it is so easy to get back into our old habits.

I can relate to the sugar thing and I feel your pain... "detoxing" from it is brutal. Headaches and super tired (at least that's how it was for me). Thank goodness it only lasted abut 5 days (days 3-4 were the worst). This was my experience prior to surgery - I had cold-turkey cut out all sugar and flour from my diet back in 2010. But once it was out, the only way to keep it out was not to take that first bite.
Basically you are forced to do the same thing post-op, but I didn't have that reaction this time. Probably because there's so much other stuff going on after surgery and your body is focused on healing itself. I'm 5 weeks post-op and I can honestly say that I don't want sweets, which is amazing. It's very strange what happens after surgery... I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I have no cravings - I get hungry, but I have a hard time figuring out what to eat. Nothing sounds good.
I wish you the best of luck!!!

First thing you need to do is get the negative talk out of your head. Stop talking to yourself so negatively. You've made a HUGE decision to make your life better, start being nice to yourself. I had the same problem pre-surgery. I ate pretty much everything I thought I would miss post-surgery. Now that I'm almost 6 mos post-surgery, I don't even THINK of any of those things any longer. When I sit down to eat, I often don't get past the protein on my plate. I LOVE vegetables and bread....and don't get me started on desserts, but I'm SO full with the protein I don't even get to move to another option on my plate.
Take it slow, take it easy on yourself, and make it as positive of an experience as you can. Remember, garbage in, garbage out....what you think, you become, so be nice to yourself and encourage yourself! You'll do great!

rebecca_dsu reacted to JennieDK in the dreaded three week stall!
Wow, I remember the stall! For a week or so I thought I was going to be the only human ever who could have most of her stomach removed and still not lose any weight. It was right at week 3 for me, and mine lasted about 2 weeks, and then my weight loss kicked back in and maintained at about 3 pounds a week for the first 3.5 months and now I'm at about 2 pounds a week. That's fine with me as long as it keeps coming off!
I remember how frustrating that was, and everyone said it would happen and that it would pass, and it really does! (I know that doesn't help much while it's going on, but it really is true.) Just follow what your doctor told you, and things will get moving again! Good luck! You won't believe how awesome the next few months will be!

I really relate to your story, I had the sweet tooth.. I could eat chocolate and ice cream forever!! not now , im 3 weeks post op and I am just introducing pureed, i am missing biting and chewing but once i have something to "eat" or drink that goes off. you will not regret this!! I went to Mexico for surgery and self paid and I had no problems with pain, some nausea but nothing else. Make sure you have chocolate shakes in ready!! it works. best of luck!
