Teachamy got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Tale of a bariatric diet goody-two-shoes...
I don't have a whole heck of a lot to say, but felt my diet boredom deserved a good 'ole fashioned RANT! I am a good "kid". I follow the rules, I eat healthy foods, lots of Protein, good carbs (although very few). I read the posts here, offer advice, feel confident in my knowledge and control of this WLS business. I enjoy laughing at folks who claim to LOVE their daily diet of nuts, berries, and a side of protein-laden slime. (their time is coming...) I am even at the goal set for me by my NUT. But man am I ever BORED with my diet choices. I know what many of you will advise--branch out! Try new foods! Explore the culinary horizon! Learn to cook new recipes! Yes, that's all well and good, but I am a busy woman with 2 little kiddos. And cooking is not interesting to me--it's a chore, not a hobby. (Although I must admit, I make a hell of a meatloaf...)
There are times when I just want a donut. But being a good kid means I walk away. Oh! The burden of being a goody-two shoes.

OKay I have a rant as I'm preparing for my upcoming surgery. I told my mom about the surgery well because I didn't think it was fair to going into surgery and not tell your parents. Maybe I was wrong. Ever since I told her about it she has been driving me crazy. I live in Florida, she in Illinois. She calls and the conversation always goes to the surgery. I have been on my weight management for a couple months and actually meet the last time Friday. She always says "are you still eating your six small meals? Are you losing weight? Why don't you just keep doing that? OMG I WANT TO SCREAM!!!!! So I was adopted and my mom, her sister, my cousins are all small. All have weighed 130 or less pounds their whole life. Small hands wear size 4 1/2 and 5 rings, etc. when I was in high school I weighed top weight 150. Now I'm 5'6" and I was in gymnastics and cheer. According to my mom 150 was too much and by the time I graduated senior year and having my mom make my food for me and that's all I could eat I weighed 123. I wish I was 150 and maybe just maybe I will return to that weight. I'm going to have this surgery....but why does she drive me so crazy about it? I can't lose weight on a diet. I have been on everyone out there and have spent millions on diets. Get over it Mom. Okay rant over.......

I have not done this personally, but if you feel the need for follow-up and you have questions that haven't been answered by your current surgeon, then by all means, find someone who can help/support you!

I think you for sure need to keep seeing a bariatric doc for follow up care and support. Find a new one if you feel like you need to.
Did your doc not seem interested in getting to the bottom of why you are having so much trouble keeping foods down? That seems like something that would be important to discover.
Also, instead of trying to feel whether your are full or not, simply measure/weigh your food and only eat the proper amount. Stop eating when you have had your measured portion. I think this would help a lot, and also would help you learn what the right portion sizes look and feel like in your stomach.
Just a suggestion, I am still wondering if something is wrong that is causing you to throw up.

I was never in any physical pain aside from a little ache in my left shoulder, and I found a heating pad helped that. The first 2-3 days I was very nauseous when I tried to drink anything. I dry heaved continually and regretted what I had done to myself. It felt like I gave myself the flu. But by day 3 I was able to eat sugar free popsicles and drinking started to become easier. I had no desire to eat at all, I felt stuffed like I had just eaten Thanksgiving dinner. For the next 3 weeks I rested and tried to recoup. Aside from fatigue, I was fine--able to take care of myself and my 6 & 8 year old kiddos.
By 1 month I was so happy I had made the decision for surgery. Best decision of my life!

One of the new teachers in my department and I were getting to know each other over lunch. I told her I had 4 kids and she said, "What! You're so tiny! You do not have 4 kids!"
    She called me tiny. Wow.

Well now that you mention it, I've just noticed this past week men looking/smiling at me on the street. That is so not my priority (especially since I'm married) but it sure does put a little kick in my step!

Yup it happens. Time to dust off the cook books and healthy-anizing them.....I remember those days. I ate a lot of cottage cheese and cheese and more cheese. Then I started to take recipes and turn them around. I am still doing it. Made fish cakes last night. Hubby liked them. I did too. Had that and raw veggies with a dip.
600 calories. your going to stop losing and go into body at rest. Maybe that's okay because you are almost there. But this too shall pass and you will once again want to eat....Goes in cycles I find.

I am 40, 5'4", Surgery Dec. 18, 2013. SW 210, CW, 150. 5 pounds to my personal goal, but my body seems to be enjoying this current plateau. Size 8-12, depending on the brand name. I didn't keep track month to month, so I can't tell you what I lost each month, but I will say I never weighed more than once every 2 weeks or so, so I didn't drive myself nuts. Definitely helps matters.

At my pre-op meetings I was literally shocked that everyone in the room was a diet soda addict. All of us. Most of us, myself included were Diet Pepsi addicts. There is something sinister in that beverage. I stopped drinking it about a year before surgery, except for an occasional restaurant outing and switched to plain seltzer. I loved the fizz. It's been hard for me to go without, but the one sip of seltzer I had since surgery did not feel good going down, so I moved on.

I started losing hair at 5 months and at 8 1/2 months am still losing. I did everything right, have lost weight slowly, ate healthy, and nothing made a difference. I think I was dumb enough to think it would not happen to me. Biotin, I am convinced, is a placebo.

I find I don't really know what I am doing if I don't log. It's good for me, but I know there are others who don't seem to rely on it like I do. I do think it helps you recognize patterns as you go through different stages of weight loss, so don't rule it out completely.

Slightly off topic but whenever I do something extra nice for my 14 year old (like 2 One Direction concerts in 10 days) I make her promise to call me skinny at least once a day! (She's a smart 14 old she knows never to say "too" skinny or those tickets are straight up on stubhub! LOL!)
