  1. Oh i'm so glad i can on here! I got a YI and i couldn't figure out if it was that or just from sitting so much, but now thinking about the antibiotic thing, it makes sense, and it does feel like one ( major suck). Well good, now i can get that taken care of! the less discomfort the better!
  2. swimming laps is by far my favorite work out. It works the whole body, and you don't get hot and sweaty doing it. Plus i just love being in the water. It is nice to have ther weights facilities available for strength training as well. If you do join the Y you can schedual a time to go through the gym and have them show you how to use everything etc. You can even set up time with a personal trainer ( for a fee of course) but that might help get you pointed in the right direction. Good luck!
  3. I would think that maybe a weight gain of 10 or more lbs could trigger a denial, but a persons body weight usually shifts by a few pounds up or down, and for a woman especially. maybe they just don't want to give the insurer any reason at all to deny coverage? Best of Luck to you!
  4. yikes! That is scary stuff, i hope it all goes well with the doc. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  5. your brother and his wife obviously have no idea all that is involved in this process. It is by no means an "easy out"! Maybe they are a bit jealous as well because they don't have the courage to admit that they need extra help in dropping the weight. Take it in stride as best you can. You are doing an amazing thing for yourself and if they can't be happy and thrilled for you, to heck with them! Best of luck!
  6. I have to agree with your friends, he is not going to change. But don't sacrifice yourself for someone who isn't even interested in trying. You've got a hot new body and a new lease on life, find someone who is willing to work as hard at the relationship as you are.
  7. Congrats and good luck! remember to take some chapstick with! those hospitals are soo dry!!
  8. Children always make things trickier, but you can't be the mom you want to be if you are miserable in your relationship. Also remember that as we get older, we change and grow, and sometimes, we grow apart. Getting out of a situation that is making you unhappy and stressed and just miserable, may be the best thing for you. AS much as i hate to say it, love itself isn't enough. If there is no trust, or respect in my mind, it's not worth it. I'm sorry you have to go through this, and i'm always around to talk =) *hugs* Good luck!!
  9. Marriage is hard. My husband and i have been married for 7 years and have been through hell together. He was one who lost his job at the beginning of the "recession" and still hasn't been able to find any meaningful work. It is very stressful but we talk a lot, keep communication open and always listen to the other ones feeling, even if they seem silly. Of course we have rough times, but i honestly can't imagine my life without him, he balances me, and i him. It's not perfect by any means, but we are happy. It's a very hard choice to make, but if he is not taking your feelings into consideration at all, maybe it is time to sit down and have a tough talk. " I know your not happy, but can you hang in there just till we get over this patch? Or at least have another job lined up and waiting before you quit?" kind of thing. A marriage should not be a one sided thing. from time to time yes a little bit but never in the big areas. If he has no interest in hearing you out or coming to a compromise about the situation, you will have to decide if he is still the right person for you. Has this behavior happened before? you should be one unit working together toward common goals, and supporting each other fully. If he can't be that for you, and hasn't in the past, it may be time to move on. Do not compromise your happiness, it's not fair to either of you.
  10. The pain for me was/ is ok. I was sleeved the 6th, came home the 9th. If i was still i didn't really feel pain, more of discomfort, an achy feeling in my stomach, especially where the incision they did teh stomach removal from. That is what hurts the most on me. So getting up and down hurts, but it gets a little better every day, and it really isn't to bad unless you really push yourself. And don't worry, at first you will most likely be on a pain pump, where every 10 - 15 min you push a little button that sends pain meds into your IV. That is a great help, use it! It makes getting up and walking so much easier! Good luck, and try to relax about the pain part, it really isn't so bad. You will do great and be up and moving with little to no pain in a matter of days. My husband, who was sleeved Oct. 3 2012 was completly pain free by the end of week 2.
  11. Today was such a better day! Had to take my son to the dentist, and my mom came with. We took him to McDonalds, oh the smells were torture! Took him back to school then did a little shopping. Was sooo nice to get out and walk someplace other than pacing in my house! I do think i overdid it a little bit as i'm extra sore so going to take some pain meds today. I think i'm starting ( note starting) to get a grip on this head hunger thing, though for some reason i keep looking up recipes on pintrest . I just wanted to tell everyone to hang in there, this is such a hard and highly emotional time for all of us. But we can do it! when you think of the big picture 3 weeks of liquid really isn't that long, even though it feels like an eternity!! And remember when you are at your wits end, sometimes it's best to just take a nap! Love to all!!
  12. You get to have an egg this soon, i'm soo jealous!! But good for you! Think of me while taking a few of those bites!
  13. Thank you to everyone who responded, today was/ is my first real rough day emotionally and it's been quite a ride. I'm starting to feel more positive, and trying to remind myself that i'm only 5 days post op. I can't expect to be feeling great and perfect and normal 5 days after major life altering surgery. You guys have really helped me through today, thank you so much!
  14. So i just had a mini melt down crying and wondering why i did this to my body and if it was the right thing to do. I guess just feeling really emotional today and gettin gcaught up in the discomfort and all the suckieness that is the first few weeks post op. Anyone else felt this way?
  15. it might be difficult with no help, especially since you sill most likely be put on a lifting restriction. Genreally it's nothing more than 10 lbs for the first 3 weeks, then it goes up some. I have a 5 year old and luckily my husband has been pulling mommy duty as well cuz all i've been doing is sleeping and walking around the house. Well, and dreaming of eggs and toast. i'd talk to you doctor let them know this and see what they have to say.
  16. I had no problems with the stairs ( am 4 days post op) just took them slowly the first day, but it didn't hurt any extra or anything like that. After that the only issues i had were going up and down while on the pain medication. that made me a little dizzy, so hubby made sure he was there with me when i needed to use them.
  17. wow fortunatly i haven't had any "hot flashes" but i have been craving scrambled eggs with cheese and buttered toast all day. I want that soo badly!!
  18. i'm only on my 4th day of the 3 week liquid diet, and it already sucks! I don't feel hungry which helps, but the smells of food or the thought of pizza rolls torture me. The physical hunger isn't the problem, it's the head hunger. for this stage my doc said i can have cocoa wheats, cream of wheat, cottage cheese things like that, which helps give some texture and semblance of "normal food". I use the cream Soups and add seasoning to them to get the flavor and that helps satisfy as well. We just have to take it one day at a time! As my husband said to me eariier today "Happy Hunger Games!" ( i wanted to kick him) so to that i add, "May the odds be ever in our favour!"
  19. I just showered for the first time today as well. Boy was that exhausting! I was able to get through all of it and with out help, but afterward i had to pop a pain pill and take a break for a few hours. Feeling better now. so great that you have such support, it's soo important! The weight loss is awesome though i agree! I was 272 when i went in for surgery and today i'm 263!
  20. oh man, i am 4 days post op and i would LOVE to cheat and actually chew something! A piece of toast, or those burritos sound amazing! Don't feel to badly though, i cheated the night before my surgery, and ate half a medium pepperoni pizza from my favorite pizza place in town. I know it was a bad choice, but i'm kind of glad that i did, especially knowing that i CANNOT cheat now and have to be saintly. So i think i got it out of my system! These liquid diets are really hard!!
  21. they do provide you with tooth brush and paste, and soap and shampoo for showering, but you could take your own if you like. I took some pajamas to change into after the first day. Was so much more comfortable! Also, i'd take your own pillows with. Good Luck!
  22. This is my second full day home from the hospital and my pain is a lot less today. It was really only bad when standing up or sitting down but today it is so much better! I can stand up without gasping in pain and holding my stomach, so that's a nice improvement. The biggest challenge for me has been getting enough water in, so that is going to have to be my focus today. Just wish it would stop raining out so i could go for a walk outside! Keep up the good work everyone! We can do this!!
  23. pretttybird, i know what you mean! My husband also had the VSG back in October ( he is down 70lbs!!) so he knows exactly what i'm going through. He is super supportive and tries to help as much as he can,but it's not much consolation when he can eat and run around, and i'm sipping broth and struggeling to walk back and forth across the house lol. He keeps reminding me that the first week is the worst though. So heres to getting through the first week!!
  24. I was sleeved on the 6th, today has been my first full day home. the transition from sitting to standing hurts but then it's not so bad. My biggest challenge by far has ben having to smell all the foods that my husband and 5 year old son are eating while i sip my broth( which tastes good, but not as good as their chicken, pizza, whatever smell). I also can't laydown fully in bed yet as it hurst to much, so i've been sleeping on the reclining couch. I hope that in the next few days the pain will lessen enough to let me go to bed!
