swimming laps is by far my favorite work out. It works the whole body, and you don't get hot and sweaty doing it. Plus i just love being in the water. It is nice to have ther weights facilities available for strength training as well. If you do join the Y you can schedual a time to go through the gym and have them show you how to use everything etc. You can even set up time with a personal trainer ( for a fee of course) but that might help get you pointed in the right direction. Good luck!

I love to swim laps as well. I warm up with a 500 meter then I start timing myself so that I really get my heart rate up for awhile. Love it. I have several different sized weights at home so I use them while watching TV and not feel like I am being stared at. Maybe when I am smaller, I won't mind so much.
