I told my mom and aunt I was concerned that I would be more at risk of abduction. They looked at me like I was crazy, but who is going to try to abduct a fat girl? It's just gonna be a lot more work than a thin one. I think I need to quit watching Dateline and A&E

Me, too! It's really a hard transition. I'm so weight watchers ingrained, I'm used to chugging Water before, during and after a meal. It's rough.

Iniysa reacted to Triple H in EATING.....
Hi there I am 6 weeks post op. My surgeon told me to follow the 30 min rule above but I am a rule breaker to the core of my being! I have tried it all, so I find that I can not eat as much if I drink up until I start eating. If I try to drink even a literal SIP of anything after I've eaten, I throw up. It's very frustrating because you get so thirsty after you eat! I carry gum or sugar free hard candy to combat the desire to drink. Good luck!

You aren't alone! It is because most of us have tried EVERYTHING and it didn't work, so we think we are the one exception to the rule and that we will always be overweight and doomed for life. I was CONVINCED it didn't work. About week 3 I had a stall and I was like "see....it didn't work and I'm gonna be fat forever!" then the next week I lost 9 pounds. I have lost 29 pounds in 6 weeks thank you Jesus! You will lose, but don't expect it to be all at once or like 50 pounds in a month which is what I was led to believe from my time spent on VST! You will do great!

I think that in the first few months, you really have to work hard at eating all the wrong things to not lose weight. Physically, there is only so much space in your sleeve for food, so it is almost a guarantee that you will lose. However, if you do not change your lifestyle by adding in exercise and completely change your food choices and eating habits, and eat the same way after surgery that you did before surgery, then the surgery will not work. It is merely a tool to get you started on a new path, but you have to put in the work and make many changes and sacrifices to see big and permanent results.

This really is my one true fear as well, even though my head knows it's not going to play out that way. Fear of the unknown, I suppose!

I think there are many of us that had that same fear...it is understandable given the countless times we have "failed" in the past. You can do it...you will do it...and you will love it.

I had the same thoughts before my surgery 3 months ago and I have lost a total of 51 pounds! I know that wouldn't have happened on my own without the surgery. It is a scary process, making permanent changes to your body and your lifestyle but it is worth it in the long run. I think the people that work at being successful at the weight loss and follow their surgeons instructions are pretty much guaranteed to be successful! Good luck to you!

Sorry you had to deal with all of that stuff! Hopefully the complications are over and you can get on with your sleeved life. I was sleeved on March 8, and am down 86 lbs, and 2 lbs below my surgeon's goal. I couldn't be happier with the whole experience, and wish you luck and success!

I doubt you have done damage. Many people have a hard time getting up to the recommended amount of Protein. I do believe in the value of tracking and now that you have seen where your deficets are, use the tool of tracking to help your tool of the sleeve

Irreversible damage? I would doubt it. You probably have lost more muscle than you would have if you had gotten more Protein. When we don't eat carbs to make sugar in the blood then we have to break down Protein and fat for fuel. The only problem is that the brain can't use fat as a fuel so you will use what protein you eat for fuel for the brain. If you 're not eating enough protein during the time when you're certainly not eating many carbs then you were breaking down muscle to fill the brains needs for fuel.
Talk with your NUT about it but if you're not having some other symptoms and have corrected the amount of protein you take in per day I'd think you'll be fine in the long run. Lesson learned right? Hang in there!

I had my surgery on Monday Sept. 12, 2013.
I had a few complications that had nothing to do with the sleeve and everything to do with my body being a jerk! Lol!
I am supper sensitive to anesthesia, and my body thought it wasn't really necessary to breathe when it was in my system. Umm, I beg to differ, lol! Came out with an O2 mask, then a different one, then a cannula.
I also found out that I am allergic to morphine. NOT the time to find that out! It caused an instant headache and I heaved really hard a couple of times, even with multiple anti-emetics on board.
They gave me liquid and IV pain meds to try and get rid of the headache, but it finally went away on its own.
I have had no pain meds since 2am on Tuesday, and was discharged later that am. I have already gone back to work.
I have lost 8.6lbs from my pre-surgery am weight.
I did have some swelling of my sleeve due to the heaving, which limited my Fluid intake, but that alleviated itself by Thursday.
I am really ready to start this new life! My husband had this surgery Dec. 31, 2012. He had no complications and has lost 80lbs. This tells me that I really can do this, and so can you!!!

I am 29. Just had my last baby and I am really wanting sleeve more everyday. I ended up with blood clots in my lungs after this last c-section (only four months ago)... I have a feeling they will need to resolve that issue completely before I can go for sleeve.

Is that a little pus around the staples? If so, it probably shouldn't be there, but I'm obviously not a doctor.

Ive been bruising allot too I think its low potassium levels. I follow my potassium level using myfitnesspal. Try to incorporate more high potassium foods. White navy Beans ,greens, vegetables, and muscle milk has allot of potassium in it 1000 in a bottle you need 3500 a day.
