I had surgery on 03/14/13 and everyone have been telling me that I'm slimming down except I just can't see it. I know I do feel better with the exception of lower back pain. Well I finally got on the scale today for the first time since surgery and my motivation has been renewed:) I've lost 55 plus lbs:)

lifeschanges got a reaction from KitKat40 in Jersey but not Jersey shore lol
Hello Everyone! I'm (reluctantly, work related) a Jersey girl...Spotswood / Englishtown (Middlesex) area. Had my surgery on March 25, 2013 with Dr. Glassnap from NJ Bariatric Center, Springfield. I can happily say things seem to be going well so far. Anybody from around my area?

Wendy's chili then... Potatoes will not stay with you (in a good way anyway) they will not satisfy as much as a Protein heavy choice.
Oh and I hate cottage cheese too

lifeschanges reacted to MUGirl2012 in Just about 8 weeks out and I'm still eating too fast
Hey guys...I am one week post op and wanted to share an app that helps you eat slower which = less pain :-D
It's called "Eat Slower". You set it on whatever interval you want. I have mine set on 2 minutes and it notifies me every time i can take a bite. This helps me realize I'm full faster and to avoid the "I took one too many bites" syndrome!

lifeschanges reacted to skinnyginny in Some things I've learned since surgery
These are just a few things that I’ve learned about myself in the 4 weeks since I was sleeved.
I never realized how much Water I would drink with meals. It is a lot harder than I thought it would be not to drink water before/during/after meals.
I never knew how fast I ate before. Sometimes I still forget and speed eat… after only a few bites, the sleeve lets me know I doing it wrong.
I never realized how much food I used to cram onto the fork/spoon. One big swallow, the sleeve lets me know it’s too much. Buying baby utensils has really helped, although I look weird eating with them.
If I have to eat in a hurry, it is better to eat something liquid/puree or nothing at all. The sleeve doesn’t like fast… at all.
Chewable Vitamins make me gag.
liquid vitamins make me gag.
Protein shakes make me gag.
Taco seasoning makes everything taste better.
I'm obsessed with the scale.< br />
Edited 4/16 - I'm adding a couple more things to the list of things learned:
10. The feeling of 'nausea' is very different now.
11. I miss being able to have myself a good guzzle.

lifeschanges reacted to Webchickadee in 2 months out and Taco Bell
It was tasty, I'm sure. I would however advise you are very aware of the nutritional value of what you're eating, so you go into these decisions fully informed (if you are already aware of this information, please take this in the spirit is is intended.....helpful enlightenment!).
Crunchy Taco Supreme®
Serving size - 113 g (4 oz)
Calories - 200
Calories from fat - 110 (55% of the total calorie count)
Saturated fat - 4.5g
Total fat - 12g
Trans fat - 0g
Cholesterol - 35mg
Sodium - 320mg
Carbohydrates - 15g
Dietary Fiber - 3g
Sugars - 2g
Protein - 9g
1. Generally speaking, at 8 weeks post-op, you may wish to get more Protein "bang for your buck". I strive for 10 g protein for every 100 calories (or roughly a 10% equivalent). This Taco Bell choice had only 4.5% equivalent ratio.
2. 1 taco used up about 1/3 of your day's suggested carbs at this point in your post-op plan (everyone's nutritional plan is different, but I'm using a common 50 carbs/day rule). And these were deep friend processed corn carbs, not the much preferred complex carbohydrates you would get from fresh vegetables or fruit (which I also avoided for the first 6 months).
3. 55% of the calories from this meal was fat! That isn't a problem as a "one-time" choice, but be aware and don't make it a habit. That can play havoc with your long-term health, cardiovascular status, and make your weight loss much more difficult.
4. Sodium is quite high at 320 mg (assuming you used no taco sauce, if you did, that would bump it up significantly higher!). Keep an eye on sodium as it is also dangerous and can hamper your recovery as well as your immediate and long-term goals.
I'm not saying don't enjoy a "treat" now and then. But early on, you need to work on developing good habits and avoiding temptation foods. Fast food is notoriously bad for you (even apparently healthy choices) and this close to your surgery you should be no where near a Taco Bell or any other fast food place. If you're serious about success (and I hope you are!), you must take steps every day to change your lifestyle (in dozens of different ways). Avoiding Taco Bell for the next year (at least) is a good start.

lifeschanges reacted to Rena's got this in Where the heck is my restriction
Try the Premier Protein shakes, they have 30 grams of Protein and 1 gram of sugar. Tastes pretty good to me, like chocolate milk. I haven't been sleeved yet, but it curbs my hunger.

I love my Protein Shakes, I do something different all the time with them. Try frozen pineapple and vanilla Protein, lots of ice and Water. chocolate, with Peanut Butter and 1/2 banana, lots of ice and water.
I always make mine with water and ice, the colder the better, and even though I am not supposed to I use a straw, it is the only way I can get them in. I started a straw about 1 month out of surgery and never have had an issue.
Bariatric Foodie has a website and a great cookbook for just protein shakes, experiment and enjoy, they really do help with getting in your protein!!!
Good Luck.

lifeschanges reacted to Lee 316 in Waivering Between VSG and Banding...Any Advice?
I originally was going to get the band but kept hearing awful things about it! I think you made a good decision with the sleeve! My surgery is March 26th, so I'll be right behind you. Best of luck with everything!

Thank you everyone for answering my post. After 3 years of slightly looking into the idea of WLS and several intense months of recently researching via seminars, doctor visits, internet, forums, chats, family discussions etc... I have made my decision. I feel the "Sleeve" is the best option for me and my life style. Surgery is Tentatively scheduled for March 25, 2013. Fingers crossed, Hope I am finally on the path to being happy with me
