Lyrakl got a reaction from TES in Please do your research
I had the single incision. My surgeon never mentioned my BMI being a factor, just that I'm under 5'8" and have a shorter torso. I had no idea there were more complications associated with the spider, but I got the idea that it was fairly new because all my doctors colleagues came by during my hospital stay to check out my incision.
I did have a lot of pain and I was thanking God it was pain in only one incision instead of several.

Really make sure you are ready mentally to make the changes with food. I was not ready, and I'm more unhappy now post op than I was before surgery. Everyday I feel like I'm fighting with my sleeve. Surgery does not fix your food issues. I wish I had done intense therapy before getting this surgery.

I weighed exactly the same two weeks out as I did going into the hospital. I was so mad! But the doctor said I was pumped so full of liquids and air and thats why. Halfway through week 3 I had a big loss.

I'm very selective about who I volunteer the information to. I told my family AFTER I had the surgery because I didn't want them stressing about my safety beforehand, and I told some of my friends who I knew would be supportive. I planned on shouting it from the rooftops after I had the surgery, but instinctively I've been very guarded. I've had a difficult time with recovery and I don't want to share that. Maybe in a few months when I'm feeling better and can say with certainty that I'm glad I did it, but until then I'm not going to volunteer it.

I refused my pain meds too. I ended up with Tylenol through the IV ( I forget the technical name) it helped and there was no nausea. Walk for the gas pain. It's all you can do. Suck on ice chips and rest. Then repeat.

Lyrakl got a reaction from AZLatina in 15 Days out and I've only lost 10lbs.
After two weeks I weighed exactly the same as I did the day I went into the hospital. I was... very upset. But I started losing this week finally.
My cravings were rage inducing. Now that I'm on soft foods and can eat more foods, and slowly starting to accept how little I can eat now, the cravings are lessening. Still, the day I can have two bites of pizza, I will weep with joy.

Lyrakl reacted to Nick'sMom in anyone else frustrated with their surgeon center?
Hi There - I had my surgery through the same surgical center but a different doctor. Mine was covered by insurance so maybe there are differences. I'm sorry you had that experience as mine was the total opposite, except maybe working with the schedulers. I think they have too much on their plate and the office may need more help. I think your idea of a point person is a good one. I pretty much only called and talked to 2 different people - one that handled all my pre-op appointments and requirements and the other that handled insurance and surgery scheduling.
As far as my Dr. (Dr. Rantis) was really great before, during and directly after the surgery. All of my followups have been with his PA but I haven't needed to see him as my recovery was fairly easy and uneventful. I did go home with a perscription for liquid pain medicine and omperazole - actually both written by Dr. Guske when I was released. I couldn't imagine leaving without either! I wonder what happened that you didn't have this?? Which hospital did you have your surgery? I ultimately had it at Alexian Brothers as the days my surgeon is there fit better with my schedule.
Which nutritionist did you meet with? I did not think they had any at the surgical center but I did meet with one at St. Alexius and also attended a nutritional class before surgery - both were required by my insurance company. I also met with Dr. Crane, the Nutritional Psycologist before surgery and he was good to talk with.
Did they raise the cost of the support sessions? Their website where they list all the classes and support groups still shows $10. I haven't attended any recently but they were pretty informative.
Good luck to you and I'm sure things will improve.

It's good to hear your first three weeks were hard. I'm 7 days post-op and so miserable. Everyone says I should be so happy because surgery went perfect, it was single incision through the belly button so no scarring, and I've somehow lost 25 pounds in a single week, but right now I'm like, why the hell did I do this to myself. I hope and pray that like you that in the near future I will be happy I did this.

Lyrakl got a reaction from mandi827 in FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
This is my third day in the hospital. I was sleeved on Tuesday the 19th. They're having problems managing my pain. I want Tylenol IV drip, they want me to swallow liquid meds that made me so sick I wet my pants and was afraid of ripping my staples out. They want me to try it again today. I'm like just bring me the Tylenol drip so I can think straight.
Drinking liquids is an issue. I feel like I'm swallowing huge amounts of air which is painful. It passes in a few seconds, but it makes it hard to get liquids down. Same thing happened with Jello.
I'm in a lot of pain and discomfort right now. I'm so jealous of everyone who had no problems with nausea and pain. Hopefully in a few days I'll feel like this was all worth it.

Scared and excited. So much left to do in preparation. I can't believe the day is almost here. So far I lost 12 lbs on the pre-op diet but let's see how today goes as I will be using magnesium citrate and be on liquids per my doctor's orders.

My surgery is on the 19th too! I've been freaking out all weekend. I'm starting my 24 hour liquid fast, and I'm starving. I guess this is when the mental strength needs to kick in, because I really have no idea when I'm going to have any nourishment in my stomach again. And I'm suddenly scared of everything. I keep imagining how scared I'll be when they give me the anesthesia, and I'm so scared of pain and nausea when I wake up. I think I need that sedative NOW!

I'm having a really hard time too. Tonight I ended up eating a small piece of fish and a salad. I'm good all day, it's a struggle, but I stick to it, but at night around dinner time I totally lose it. Tonight I was like, That's it! I'm going to Taco Bell and eating everything in the car!! Thank God I didn't. That little piece of fish made me feel so much better. I haven't been to Taco Bell in three years because it makes me sick! These pre-op shakes are making me crazy.
My surgery is the day before yours on the 19th!
