newat52 reacted to 1Day1Life4Now in WLS has made me a judgemental jerk!
Judging is a two way street. If the OP doesn't want to be judged maybe she needs to quit judging others. I'm Bipolar as well but I make an effort to be positive to others because that is what I need from others when I post here. Mental illness explains a lot of behavior for things we do and situations we put ourselves in but it's not a Free Pass to get away with hurting others and being mean and disrespectful. You don't have to agree with anyone's religious views but they should be free to post their views with out being insulted. All extremely over weight people have "issues'. That's why we are here. If you come on this forum and ask for help, don't be mean to people because you don't like their suggestions, they are only trying to help. If you already know what works, don't ask... go on to your therapist and work it out there. I love this forum and most of the people on here . I've received a lot of good advice and what wasn't so good ...well, I thanked them for it and immediately forgot what they said. We are all adults here and should be able to treat one another with respect.

No! Never, ever. I had saggy skin before and I still do. It is what is is. Never want to go back. I'll take the daily struggle to keep it off over the struggle to get through the day as a heavier person.

Hell to the no. I look great in clothes, not so awesome naked. Before I looked not so great either way. Added to that, I'm healthy. Win!

Good to see things are the same here since I took a bit of a break! lol!
I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in here….While I know next to nothing of mental illness so can't really speak to that. It does seem like you know what you are doing is not good and you know its wrong. Funny thing here (sad really) is that you know you are judging others as evidenced by your post title but yet you are telling others not to judge you.
Sometimes it can go back to a simple childhood rule. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Speak to others and you would like to be spoken to.
Good luck in your journey. I wish you the best.

I chose not to live my live out loud. I don't discuss my finances, and I don't ask people about theirs. I don't discuss how much my house or car cost and I would never ask another person the same. My mother told me if some one was ill, when they return to work never ask what was the illness. Just say I'm glad you're feeling better. On my job I'm amazed on a daily basis at some of the personal discussions I hear.
As for me...it's not a secret, it simply no one's business. Really, why does it have to be announced?

    I'm not "hiding" anything.
    No, I'm not embarrassed.
    No, it's not a "secret".
I *DID* do this on my own. Yes, I had surgery, but no one weighed and measured my food, tracked my intake, ran my miles, danced my Zumba, lifted my weights, swam my miles, or did any of the other work I had to do to lose 110+ pounds last year. My surgery was a tool, a really super awesome tool that I will be forever grateful for, but I lost the weight, no one did it for me.
Why have I not made my surgery public knowledge? Because it's none of anyone's business. I have so many more things about me that are *MUCH* more interesting than my surgery. I am a successful business owner with 300+ women on my team, I am a mom of two gifted teens who I am very proud of, I am a volunteer for a women's shelter, I am a martial arts training instructor, I have a pet hedgehog who is as cranky as they come, I can move both of my eyes independently of the other, I can sing songs in sign language, I hate getting dirty but I have a new love for doing mud runs, I am white Water certified in kayaking, I can do the splits in all three directions, I've been married to the same man for 20 years and haven't attempted murder yet, I have a wicked sense of humor and can insult you five ways to Sunday and you'll thank me for it without even realizing it.
I have no desire to explain (to people who really aren't truly interested) what a sleeve is, how it works, why they really don't know someone whose mother's best friend's cousin's neighbor's brother's wife's dentist died from this surgery/gained back all their weight/was malnourished/has seizures/never lost a pound/etc, nor do I care to explain my portion size, justify why I eat what I eat, answer the question "are you allowed to eat that" every time I put something in my mouth...
I don't talk about my pooping habits with the general public or my menstrual cycle, my gall bladder attack, why I used to pee when I sneezed, my IUD, my sore boobs during PMS, etc. I don't talk about the size of my hubby's package, how often we do the do, where we conceived our children, what we fight about when we fight, how much money I make, how much money he makes, my IQ, what brand of handbag I carry most often, or how much I spend on shoes annually, either.
    Any other questions?

Be careful what you wish for! I started freezing about 2 weeks post op. Surgery was 3/6/13. I except when working out or heat of the summer, I'm cold all the time. It's pretty common. There was a big discussion last winter in here somewhere. I always thought it was easier to warm up then cool down. I lived under a heated thrown all fall/winter/spring. Cuddle duds are my best friend.
Don't get me wrong, I'll take it hands down with my new health and lease on life. If that's the worst thing, and it is, I am very grateful!
    Good luck to you!

newat52 got a reaction from KB2222 in Insurance Opted Out of Bariatric Surgery Coverage - is there a chance of still being covered?
My insurance excluded it as well. I look back now and don't care. I paid out of pocket and would do it again in a New York minute. Lucky, I live the the Dallas area where we have an abundance of top notch bariatric surgeons. (I paid $12,200 all inclusive) Don't get me wrong, that is a huge chuck of change but SO worth it. It was the best health decision I could have made for myself. My husband agrees!
It would be great if insurance paid but if it doesn't, go for it! You will not regret it!
    Best of luck to you!

You don't have to tell her anything. You are going out on medical leave I presume? All you boss has to know is that you are having surgery. Period.
If you want to keep your medical history to yourself you have every right. You don't owe anyone an explanation for anything personal.

I have been using straws since 3 weeks out with my surgeon and NUT's ok . Over 15 months now and my stomach has not expanded, exploded or imploded.
Yes, every surgeon has different rules. I think we need to use our own common sense. We all had the same surgery. While it should be the same for everyone, keep in mind that our surgeons go by first of all, medical fact, that in which they know to be true, secondly, medical opinion. Third, serving the lowest common denominator and lastly, covering their asses.
For me, I get in so much more Water each day with a straw than without.
The only rule I won't test is the carbonation. Lots of folks have it but I'm not going to test it. It's not that important to me.
Good luck and I'm sure you will love your sleeve!

You don't owe anyone an explanation for anything. The ladies who are giving you a hard time are just looking for something to gossip about. Let them think whatever they want. They don't matter.
When I get asked how much I've lost my answer is always "a bunch." When they ask how I did it, "one pound at a time." People generally figure by this point my weight is not on the table for discussion.
Keep up the great work and don't the the haters get to you!
