I'm also pre-op and think about this a lot.
IMO this is where setting realistic goals comes in, rather than just getting surgery and floating along to see how much I'll lose. OP herself has goals listed above her ticker. At some point these goals were important, that's why she typed them in.
So when we get to a point that we're comfortable/complacent, it's time to re-eavluate the goals. If the goal is still important and seems realistically attainable, then the hard work should be done to push to achieve it. If the goal, now that it's closer, seems less important or is unrealistic, then perhaps the goal should be changed.
The important things though are that:
    1) it is not good for your soul to always believe you have this goal out there that you had set but never achieved and
    2) it IS good to have realistic, attainable goals, otherwise we live on "autopilot" ...and I dont know about you guys but that's kinda how I got to this point in the first place

What an awful experience for you. You should change doctors. Doyou really want this person to be the one offering you medical opinions about other things you would be seeing her for? I would change doctors, THEN write her and the practice why you have changed providers.
I was in medical practice management for 24 years, and if I ever received a letter regardng a physician's mistreatment of a patient -without hesitation I addressed it with the partners and the offending doc.
Just because she had an MD after her name does not mean she is caring or compassionate or even learned in WLS.
You know what they call the person who graduates last in their medical class????? Doctor!!!!
You have done so amazingly well - don't let this doctor derail your efforts. You've seen her once, get a new doc and get away from this one. Keep your chin up girl and rock that sleeve.

It sounds like you are still putting to much emphasis on food. I say that because you can still enjoy social activities that don't revolve around food! Try asking your friends to do something that's not going out to dinner!
I don't know.. I've gone out to dinner and social events a lot. And I make it about conversation and being out in the world with a far improved comfort level in myself..
Oh and yes my hair is thinning my stomach has a mind of its own sometimes.. But I am getting healthy (skinny I don't know) and happy in my ability to move with ease through life now

Oliver's Mom got a reaction from Yasmine in When did you dye your hair postop?
My daughter is a hair stylist, I had my hair dyed 2 weeks post-op and like MichiganChic kept my regular schedule of every 4 weeks. I am 3 1/2 months post op. Just this last appointment (1 week ago) my daughter commented that my hair seemed a little thinner than usual. I typically have very thick hair. We decided to cut it short & sassy. I love it!

Yep, there are several ladies on this forum in their 50's and 60's.
I was 59 when sleeved in March 2012. Had no complications, lost weight steadily and rapidly without even one stall, and consider it to be the best thing I've ever done for myself.
Others will chime in shortly, I'm sure.
I was worried that I was too old, but my surgeon took my hands in his, looked me in the eye, and convinced me otherwise. I am forever grateful.
    Good luck!!

Oliver's Mom reacted to mark! in Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?
Well, I started c25k today after my PA said I was good to go for jogging as long as I stopped with any discomfort. Starting a week early from what the protocol says. I figured I'll repeat week 1 anyway just to get in the groove of running. I mean c'mon, I lift heavy things and put them down right? I'm not a runner by any means...but I wanna be. I'm looking forward to putting myself to the test and working through this app. I'm really happy that I was able to complete today with no issues.
I'm starting with a 3.2MPH walk and a 4.4MPH jog, with a 1.0 incline (chi running, it helps with the lean on the treadmill while at work.) I was able to complete today with ease, breathing through my nose wasn't an issue at all, which usually it would be even with 30 seconds at 4.4 in the past. I'm really looking forward to dropping the weight and seeing how much it helps my running ability. Can't wait.

Oliver's Mom reacted to No game in Are our metabolism screwed forever?
Mike Susan and I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago... On the vets forum and she posted some more about it on another thread... Of course the reasons of resetting your metabolism for US right now is weight loss but I think the theory is the same
This is what Susan said on the other thread let me know what you think....
    BY SUSAN;
I am four years out. For the first year, I lived on 800 calories a day. Then, I maxed out at around 1200 a day. For the past eight months, I have been battling with gaining and losing the same three pounds. I was so sick of it. I had no energy and generally just didn't feel too great. My fiancé is a nutritionist and a personal trainer. For two years he has been preaching to me that eating so few calories for the the first few months of the weight loss phase was one thing, but that it wasn't healthy to maintain that few calories long term. He kept insisting I needed to eat more in order to lose weight. Like another poster said, he told me I wasn't losing weight anymore because my metabolism was so incredibly messed up. My body had gotten used to the fact that I was starving it, so my metabolism slowed way down to compensate for it and my body started storing fat.
About six weeks ago I decided to give his method a try. We figured out my base TTDE based on my age, weight, height and activity level. Just for my body to do nothing but lie in bed all day and do nothing but breath, I would need to eat a baseline of 1950 calories a day! So, we moved forward to "reset" my metabolism. I now eat about every two hours. I don't eat junk, I eat high Protein, healthy foods. The first few weeks, I gained between one and two pounds per week. I was in panic mode. I was terrified of eating this way, I just knew I was going to end up fat again. But, I promised him I would try it his way and would give it eight weeks. He warned me that I would probably gain weight at first, he said my body was going to take all those extra calories and hold onto them, because it isn't used to my actually fueling it like I should. But he promised if I stuck with it, I would get past the gain stage, and my metabolism would pick up again. Well, I finally stopped gaining and was maintaining. Next, he dropped me to 1750 calories a day, and if I exercise, I would eat those calories back. Guess what, it is working! I am now back to losing one to two pounds a week again and couldn't be happier. I have more energy and feel better than I have in two years.
So, I do believe we need to keep our bodies fueled. I have done a lot of research on this in the past few weeks, along with finally listening to my own personal nutritionist/fiancé. I have a healthy Breakfast, then a couple hours later I will have a Protein Bar. I eat a healthy lunch. In the afternoon I snack on fruits, cheese, Protein Bars, nuts, beef Jerky, whatever strikes my fancy. I have a healthy dinner and, usually a snack about two hours before bedtime. My body has responded well to fueling it every few hours and I am a believer now. Just wish I would have listened to him two years ago!

Mix together salad bag mix, sliced beets, crumbled goat cheese, diced walnuts and garlic chicken. Very yummy and full of flavor, especially the beet and goat cheese combo.
You can buy the garlic chicken from costco in packs of 6 garlic chicken skewers. They naturally break apart into 3-4 chicken chucks per skewer, you can break them down further depending on desired size.

AceyKay you've lost 60 lbs???? WooHoo
what sleeve of steele and MrsG said (and probably others to follow) when you look in the mirror - you don't see that difference that others see.
ie DH sees the difference and i'm sure other people see too
try on some clothes that didn't fit you before - or your present clothes - see how different they now look
you will gradually see the difference - but don't look at yourself in the mirror all the time - "check" yourself out once a month
    keep up the good work
    congrats on all your success
good luck today, tomorrow and always for the rest of your healthier, happier, longers life

It sounds like you are having a hard time.. I've seen several of your threads today about this subject. I think you are battling a very bad case of head hunger. Which for a lot of us is as big as a factor as "real" hunger. This is the truly hard part. It is something you will have to tackle as time goes on.. But for now be good to your healing stomach and just stick to the doctors plan. I know it's no fun but we just have to do it.

What he said was not only false (as you know)
It was meant to be cruel.. I think there is a difference between being a little insecure and saying things like "I bet when you lose the weight you will leave me" and those cruel mind blowing words he said... Please take care of yourself and know you deserve so much better.

Sadlers,I have to agree! I feel like as long as we do all the things we are supposed to, we really don't have a lot of control over how fast we lose. I do think we could do things to slow weight loss down by grazing, overeating, not exercising, etc, but once you do everything right, it's out of our hands. Some people will just lose slower than others, and some people will go through periods of stall or slow loss then go through periods of faster loss - for no apparent reason. Once I realized I can only do so much, I stopped feeling so pressured. I am grateful for every pound lost, and grateful for every day I am able to stay in control of my diet and exercise! And of course, I also dare to dream - can't blame a girl for that!

Today is my first day back at work. I was sleeved Monday so was off work for 6 days. Feeling good and glad to be back. I put on my work clothes and had my first NSV. I was able to button the top button on my dress shirt. Normally I just use my tie to hold my shirt closed but today the button gets to do its own job. That was exciting! Looking forward to lots more of these discoveries.

I think it comes from the fact that every other time we've lost weight we've put it back on. Hard to believe this is the time that won't happen again right? But it is.
As the scale starts to slide you'll get more self confidence. As soon as you recognise the negative self talk, shake it off. You can obviously recognise it because you posted about it.
Make sure you're getting plenty of exercise, like walking. That will help with the anxiety if there is any.
Good luck. You are losing this weight for the last time!
