pen got a reaction from Ammclary in Risks of Side Effects from VSG
I was told this, read this and having the surgery is what was best for me. I refuse to have my autopsy read "death by food"
i had 3 c- sections and was given similar risks and was there a choice to say no and lose my life and baby, I chose to have my children to give them life. I know it's not the best comparison, I chose to give the life inside me a better chance, as I chose to have the surgery to give me a better life.
I can't fathom what I would feel if I had problems because everything went fine. Just like I wouldn't want anyone to understand what its like to lose an adult child because it is the worst thing that can happen to a parent no matter how old their child is.
My heart breaks for those who had horrible experiences with this surgery. I don't think one person can agree to having any type of surgery with out understanding it may result in death. Risks are explained very thoroughly. I'm sorry for those who suffer, whose odds were not in their favor.

Whether you serve this as a wrap, on whole-grain toast or in a lettuce cup, you will love this egg salad that uses half the yolks and lots of healthy fats from the avocado.

    Calories: 154.7 • Fat: 11.7 g • Protein: 9.3 g • Carb: 4.6 g • Fiber: 3 g • Sugar: 0.5 g
    Sodium: 132 mg (without salt)
    Ingredients:
    4 large hard-boiled eggs, chopped
4 hard boiled egg whites, chopped (discard the rest)
1 medium hass avocado, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
    1 tbsp light Mayonnaise
1 tbsp fat free plain yogurt
    1/2 tablespoon finely chopped chives
    2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
    1/2 tsp Kosher salt
    pinch freshly ground pepper
    Directions:
Combine the egg yolks with the avocado, light mayo, yogurt, chives, vinegar, salt and pepper. Mash with a fork. Combine with egg whites and adjust salt as needed.
I haven't made this yet but would just use the yogurt and omit the mayo all together. I not big on mayo. I'd also use fresh spinach in the wrap.

I didn't go to the links dean provided. I believe we stall for our bodies to catch up. Every time I hit a stall I lose inches.
I kind of have an attitude of slower is better. It's not as hard on our bodies and as much as I want to get to goal yesterday, I am losing weight faster than I was before surgery. Before surgery I lost and gained. As long as my clothes get roomier and the scale goes in the right direction I am very pleased.

I had my surgery 10.30.12. I have been traveling some and had a February stall. I weighed today and have lost 50 since day of surgery and 62 from my highest. I am pleased.
I too have some flab. It seems to be not as bad as I first thought. But I think the "Madonna" arms I once had will not happen again and my legs may sag too. I'm older now and gravity has taken over. I think some of the skin tightens up in time, but gravity and age are not on my side:). I think I'd rather have sagging skin then it being full of fat,

So today marked day 6 of my pre-op diet. I've generally been doing pretty good with it. I realize I have to do this and I've put my mind to it to get it done. Today was a very busy day. We've recently finished our basement and I had lots to do building shelves and hanging pictures. Right after I started working my knees started to throb. Then my back began to ache. After about an hour I got nauseas and a bit woozy. I struggled through the rest of the day taking many breaks and resting my knees and my back.
Once the day was done, I took a shower and realized why I'm about to have life changing surgery in 10 days. Sure, I'd like to look hot again (or as hot as a 60 year old guy can) but after today the real reason came out. I can't live anymore carrying about 150 lbs of extra weight. Although my doc says I'm the healthiest fat guy he's ever seen, I know that if my joints and muscles are breaking down so badly from this weight, the rest of my body can't be far behind.
Looking good will be a great side affect from my surgery but truly the best benefit will be being healthy once again.

I swear by Emergen-C. It's packets of Vitamins besides Vitamin c that you mix with Water. They have it pretty much everywhere. I got bronchitis right when I got home from the hospital and I got Amoxicillin. The pink stuff my kids loved.
I'd say mucinex too but I'm not sure you can take those yet. Maybe it comes in liquid
Good luck and I hope you get better soon

I can finally eat normal foods at 9 weeks but sometimes denser items just sit in your stomach and make you feel kind of blah afterwards. I had a burger (on a bun) with lettuce and Tomato and after 2 small bites I was done and all I could think was that it wasn't worth spending time trying to eat and that was enough to satisfy my craving. I'm finding out that while you can have the things you used to enjoy, they may not be near as enjoyable which is probably a good thing.

I so understand. I'd be careful with solids. As they can cause problems.
i made my own Soups. I was scared to chew anything and it was better than canned Soup or broth. I did blend it. My worst craving in the first months was veggies. I am 4 months out and can eat anything. I still prefer veggies over meats but I try to eat them too and have a Protein drink for a snack. The Protein Bars don't stir well in my sleeve.
Good luck and be careful with what you eat. My doc told horror stories about obstructions. I was scared to stray.

Not to scare you, but one food that my surgeon really warns you against eating early on is corn. You should def stick to the food plan that your surgeon gives you--it's not just about keeping it down, it's making sure that certain types of foods don't get caught in your staple line, etc. For example, my surgeon won't let you eat nuts or seeds until 120 days. He may be more conservative than some, but his complication rate is really low. I know once I got out of the hospital I definitely didn't want to go back unless it's unavoidable.

I don't have suggestions for the pain as I a lucky one. Walking is essential to alleviate the gas.

After reading a bunch of insignificant banter, I don't understand why so outrageous comments. The OP definitely has something wrong going on. She came here to share here story in hopes of support maybe a similar story to hers. I had to read a bunch of pages to see if she had found out anything from the second opinion. I'd be upset if I were her. She is seeking out professional help. I would hate for this thread to be closed as I feel for her and want to know the outcome. One thing I have learned through my journey is not all doctors plans and procedures are equal.
I believe I had at least 10 ounces of liquid on my tray the morning after my leak test. Was dying of thirst and was not allowed anything by mouth until that test was done the day after. My tray had a double popsicle, Water, tea, Jello and broth. It may have been a cup of each. I had the broth, all of it and the popsicle and as much water as I could handle. No Protein at all. I don't think chicken bullion is really substantial protein. I was told to get in my fluids and as much protein those first two weeks but not to fret over it. One only can do the best they can. I was told to really get the protein in after those 2 weeks.
Seems like the OP was following her plan, but could obviously get in much more than the typical post op sleeve patient. I don't think seeking out here for some constructive support is wrong. She's scared and frustrated. I wish her all the best and a good answer to her problem. Yes, it is hard to comprehend her situation, but strange things happen in surgery. Rare, yet there's always an odd story out there.
I do hope she posts an update!

I am 52 and was sleeved October 30th. I've lost 41lbs since the day of surgery and feel great. My goal is to lose 150 also. I'm down 53 from my heaviest. I don't know if I'll have skin I assume its inevitable to have some, but I can't make a decision about it until I get done.
Good luck to all and congrats on the great losses!

I'm not going out but in celebration of the tradition I'm making white bean chicken chili. Very easy healthy and yum. I'm a little scared about the chicken as I find it to dense sometimes. Hopefully if it cooks all day it will shred and be easier to eat
