I am 7 months out, and have done pretty well, 79.5lbs so far. I have been stuck between 169 and 172 for several weeks now. I can't figure out what to do differently. I never eat more than 1000 calories, wear my fitbit and walk 20-30,000 steps a day. I wonder if we stall because 1,000 is too many, or actually too few calories. I'm also thinking that I need to do something different other than walking all day. Thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated.

There are lots of sites / apps where you can work out your BMR Basal Metabolic Rate. Basically an estimate of how many cals a person your sex / age / height burns a day with zero effort (like if you slept all day).

At 1000 cals you should be losing and that's a pretty long stall. Maybe allow yourself a few 1500 / 1600 cal days to try and ramp your metabolism back up and then go back to 1000?

Try drinking more Water and do a different exercise routine for awhile. Also be sure your only measurements are not from the scale. You might be loosing inches even though you're not loosing the pounds right now.

I didn't go to the links dean provided. I believe we stall for our bodies to catch up. Every time I hit a stall I lose inches.

I kind of have an attitude of slower is better. It's not as hard on our bodies and as much as I want to get to goal yesterday, I am losing weight faster than I was before surgery. Before surgery I lost and gained. As long as my clothes get roomier and the scale goes in the right direction I am very pleased.

Thanks for those links Dean. Great info. It's so much easier to avoid carbs, etc, if I know WHY I should be doing it, as opposed to just blindly following NUTs orders.

To the OP, I think you either aren't getting enough calories or enough of the right types of calories (like protein). Try the fat and calorie shock discussed in Dean's first link. That might tell you something.

And BMR is tricky. Websites all over put my BMR at 2065 or thereabouts, but when I took the actual metabolism test at my doctors office (using an extremely accurate device), it measured 2600 as my BMR.

So don't rely too heavily on the online BMR calculators.

Keep us updated! We're cheering for you!

My surgeons offfice told me when I hit a stall to change my routine up, whether it is increasing or decreasing calories, changing exercise routine, or changing Fluid intake

Thanks folks. It took me a while to get back to check, and I really appreciate the input. I did finally go down a couple pounds, and that was after a week of eating a little extra, and not getting a lot of exercise, thus the "break it up" theory. And, the pattern I'm seeing is stall for a few weeks, drop. I'm still down 82lbs, and with this last drop I realized I am completely committed, and it will still take time, but I'm very close to my goal. Thing is I love my new life and am having fun with it. It will all be good. Thanks and love to all.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
