Hi Tammy, I'm retired from hospital nursing and was a prison RN for 11 years. I'm 65 . I was sleeved 5 months ago. Lost 60 lbs so far. I also had bilateral knee replacements 17 months ago. Everything is better since the weight loss! I've had no problems and go to Water exercises 3x a week.

I need to fart sooo bad. My whole family has this nasty stomach virus and they all fart burp and poop like crazies to get it all out. I can barely burp and fart and I'm sire not pooping. I've been doing so many yoga poses and prayers it ain't even funny.

My sharts stopped when I got on solid food. I seriously thought they were with me for life! The best advice I got was...never trust a fart! Saved many pants lol

Unfortunately some people have befriended the fat us so they feel better about themselves or to have support for themselves without knowing how to give it back. I had a friend who once told me after I lost weight, "but you were my fat friend. You made me look good at parties". I never spoke with her after that comment and sadly she didn't realize she even said it and when I confronted her years later she cried. I know she didn't mean to hurt me but it was a glimpse into how people pigeonhole fat people for comfort. The way I see it is when I'm at my happiest (working out, feeling healthy, in love, proud of myself, productive) I want others o be happy and feeling good. People who are unhappy want others to be unhappy with them. I only gather support from happy positive people. Good luck.
I do think you will inspire others to lose weight and that is flattery not insult.

So guys, best way to honor him is to do something he can't now...
Take an extra lap at the gym, play with your children, do something nice for your spouse, make a co-worker laugh, stick to your program being thankful you're alive and have this opportunity to do great things with your new healthier you!

I think that yes, it probably has more to do with relationship problems before the surgery... I've seen a lot of individuals here speak of problems in their marriage going into this surgery... So add in one major life changing event into an already precarious situation? it could happen.. But it probably would of happened anyway.
    Still it's sad..

    Another joyous occasion ladies!!
    This A.M. I weigh 234.6lbs.
This is a VERY big deal for me. I have now hit my lowest adult weight.
Since getting my esophageal spasm under control, I can eat and my stall is over!!! Yay!!
234 is also the lowest weight I achieved dieting by myself.
What a great number to have reached!
    HAPPY TIMES!!!
If this continue to go this good hopefully this strong since of regret will fade!!
Thanks for enduring these struggles with me and embracing the celebrations!!!

I understand not wanting anyone but your husband to know, but please tell your doctors!! There are so many different things that could go wrong during any surgery and since we're not doctors we really can't decide if being sleeved would be a factor. And with your primary doctor, its important that they have your full medical history so they can properly diagnose any health concerns that come up! When you tell your doctor and surgeon just express to them how private you have been about this. There may be a way for them to notate your chart that the staff wouldn't even have access to it.
But please, for your safety, tell your doctors!!!

1happyloser2b-- I first was going to start looking at info on the lapband, and an ad came up for the VSG. I knew the lapband did not work but I was getting desperate. The VSG is the best thing I did. I feel great. (just the tiny problem of cross-addiction), but I can and will keeping working on that. Good Luck with your surgery and your new VSG Life.

What a great day! I don't get them often because my loss has been slow. I'm literally losing at the exact same rate I was before the surgery. 3 months out and 36 lbs. BUT 1. Today I finally hit Onederland. Yay! 2. I hit my halfway mark. 70 Lbs. gone, 70 lbs. to go.Yay! 3. Went to get my hair cut short today because it has started to fall out and when I walked in the hairdresser didn't recognize me because of the weight loss. Yay! When you're not sure if it shows yet, that's a nice thing to hear. I'm stoked.

They considered WLS so I assume they're obese?
If WLS is for the 'weak and unmotivated' what does that make someone who is obese and not doing anything about it weak unmotivated and stupid!!??

My wife was talking about RNY surgery and I was her biggest opposition.I told her the operation was like putting a gun to her head. I told her that I would become tyrannical and abusive like the idiot from "Sleeping With The Enemy" and keep her from eating if that would help her lose weight without the surgery.
Then I went to an informational meeting held by the surgeon. Her jaw hit the floor when we left when I announced that I not only approved of her surgery, but was contemplating getting myself sleeved.
Ignorance breeds fear. In her case, losing her fellow struggler is a factor, fear of being alone. I would give her space and time. When the light dawns on her she could be a brand new person and you'll have your friend back

Hey Jana and fellow nurses!!!! Add me to the group!!! I am a RN specializing in psychiatry. I have been a nurse for 15 years! I have lot of co-workers who have had WLS. Last year a co-worker I didn't know started talking about her 100lb weight loss. We were in the cafeteria and she had a cup of fruit and I had placed an order for PANCAKES!!! She just started sharing her journey right there, and she told me her husband had the surgery also. He was also doing great! That conversation got me thinking, I scheduled my WL seminar (for the second time) and went in December of 2012, I am now waiting for my surgery DATE!!!!! the first time I went to the seminar they only talked about 2 surgeries "The Lap Band" and "The Bypass". Well I knew a few people that had the band and were struggling, and I was afraid of the bypass. The second seminar to my surprise there was another option The VERTICAL SLEEVE!!!! Hopefully my SAVIOR!!!! As nurses we must be an example of health as best we can I believe, so this surgery will give me the best chance of doing that since ALL OF THE OTHER METHODS I HAVE USE IN THE PAST WERE EPIC FAILS!!!!!!!!! Good luck to everyone!!!
