castiel got a reaction from DreamsOfSkinny in 21 Year Old Pre-Op
I'm 21 and I just had surgery on 12/17. I'm ready to have the body I knew I should have had all my life. I've been fat since I was 5 years old!
I wish you best of luck on this journey! There's also a group for sleevers in your 20s, but sometimes it's not very active.

castiel got a reaction from Ms.AntiBand in Help - scheduled for Band on Feb 1, should I do Sleeve?
I got the sleeve because I was uncomfortable with the malabsorption and creation of a pouch with gastric bypass. I knew right away I would never want the band because I didn't like the idea of a foreign object in my body. There's possible erosion, the band disconnecting and not even working, and you need fills and finding that perfect balance where the restriction doesn't make you vomit or make the food pass right through.
The plus side to the band is that it is not permanent. However, once it's removed can you keep the weight off?
VSG is permanent! There is no getting your stomach back. This is for life. You have to weight the risks that there are complications with this surgery, as is with any weight loss surgery.

I'm a side sleeper. Or at least I was. Now it kinda hurts to sleep on my side because my rib cage digs into the mattress.
Poor me having to deal with skinny problems.
I wish I were fat again... NOT!!!

castiel got a reaction from annabelle in Doing my best to avoid surgery
I'm 21, and I chose to have this surgery because even though I didn't have high blood pressure or diabetes, I have PCOS and a family history of diabetes, heart attack, and stroke. I've never lost a significant amount of weight before, never more than 35 pounds with weight watchers and a supervised diet, and I never could keep it off.
This surgery is tool to help insure that I keep it off. Granted, IT'S A LIFESTYLE CHANGE. It's not just some fad diet. 95% of diets fail and you gain back more once you're off the diet. You have to be committed to this for life!
If you knew you could keep it off for good, would you even be considering this procedure? You also have to weight the risks like leaks, hair loss, and mal nutrition.
I'm only a 3 weeks out, but I'm hoping this will be the best decision of my life.

I think some people miss out on tone and expression that is lost in text. However, sometimes people make posts about cheating in the beginning stages post-op and that frustrates some especially when people have dealt with leaks and don't want others to go through the same thing.
We need to support one another, and while it's okay to disagree and argue with good points, we need to remain respectful.
There are some mean people, but not everyone is. I'm grateful for this board and a lot of advice and experiences that I have read. Just try to ignore the negativity, and if need be, take a break and come back after a while.

castiel got a reaction from blewy99 in Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
That's great you're already exercising. I'm just doing walking, but on Tuesday I'm cleared for the gym! I should've taken my measurements pre-surgery. But I remember measuring my waist and hips a few weeks before surgery, so when I get back to school I can't wait to find my measuring tape.
The pain does get better, as you've seen. I used to have pain getting up out of bed, but now, NONE! Walking long distances at first made my stomach muscles feel like it's on fire. Now if I walk too much, it's not bad at all.
Best of luck on your journey! Sounds like you're doing great.

Thank you both for the boost! I really need it right now! It's been a rough few weeks! I go bk to work this week and hopefully with the distraction of being a nurse and running like a chicken with now head I won't think about my weight!

During my first 10 days post op, I lost 20 pounds. I was sleeved 12/17 and it the weight loss stopped 12/26. Then, no weight change. I was frustrated. HOW COULD I STOP LOSING AFTER ONLY 10 DAYS?
But today, the scale finally dropped three pounds. My stall finally broke on the 7th. These things take time.
Don't get too discouraged. Our bodies have been through a lot!

Did you have surgery to be healthy or to be skinnier than your mom? Be happy for yourself....then her. Don't begrudge her a healthier life. Even if she is trying to one up you, be a better person than that.

Yes! Mine started yesterday. It's like a pain at the bottom of my stomach, almost like a gas bubble moving through a pipe whenever I eat or drink anything! Sometimes it comes up as a burp and other times it goes the other way. I hope it stops eventually :[

It helps to take smaller bites and chew more when you're eating drier foods. Chew chew chew....try not to give into the temptation to sip. It's a bad habit, and starting a new healthier life is all about extinguishing those bad habits and developing new ones.

castiel got a reaction from qdh in Struggles with not drinking while eating
    Hi Everyone,
So this week I'm on pureed food. I'm finding it SO difficult not to drink while eating food. I've done it a few times, and then I can't eat as much, making me feel full super fast. I know that I'm not supposed to because it makes the food slide through faster, so I'm trying very hard not do it.
I've always been a huge drinker of beverages while eating. After eating, my mouth just feels so dry and I want to reach for a nice glass of cold Water. I was thinking maybe gum might be a good option? I can pop it in my mouth, and boom, saliva to help with thirst. (My nut says gum is okay to chew and mints).
What do you after you eat to help stop the urge to drink something? Was this something easy for you to overcome or do you still struggle with it?
    Any tips would be great!

This is "the one" I turned my nose up at lap band and at RNY... This is the surgery that makes sense to me. In 20 years I hope they come up with a better surgery than this, but I'm done waiting. And I'm totally ok with losing 85 percent of my stomach.

Seriously, I think if you do crunches, it helps lift the muscles that support that area.

Just another guys perspective... but in my opinion honesty is always the best policy. Something like this shouldn't matter to him at all, and if it does then I would seriously question that. The past is the past and even in the past you were the same person on the inside that you are today and THAT is what truly matters.

I was also thinking Panera because of the Soups. But also if you go somewhere else, perhaps you could order fish and steamed veggies or mashed potatoes. And like someone else suggested, tell them you had a stomach bug or the flu so you're taking it easy
