Am I the only bandster not losing?
Shortgal - I agree - My doc gave me a whole binder - I had homework - etc - I see the nutristionst every time I see the doctor. I don't think all doctors prepare there patients and that's why there are so many questions on what to eat at what stage. Tracy - what does ymmv stand for ????

5 Month Progress Picture Collage
Peaches Great picture - you look so different in all yur pic's - the one you use to have with you sitting- your current with red hair and then this one you look like a blond. Are you and Ms Clariol good friends - I cover my gray every 4 weeks - if i didnt it would be mostly all white - I have tried to add a little red -but it fades so fast... So I just stay blond - I have been blond for most of my adult life various shades - when I was young platium - now a little darker w/highlights..

Marcy - I too agree 1 cup even 1 1/2 is ok per meal - we do have to eat. For me too it depends on what i am eating on how long i stay full - for lunch had 1 3oz can tuna with 5 corn chips crumbled up and some sweet & hot mustard - 1 pt bar & 1/4 cup green Beans - I am stuffed right now and it should last til tonite. I have a cold and right now i have that want to pick at food mentally Feed a cold - starve a fever.. I need some hot sauce so I can taste it - I will get tight if i eat too fast - last night had 1/2 pudding cup and felt stuck - ate too fast. It really depends on how many calories you are eating daily - as you say pear coffee cake goes down with no problems. Inside videos for exercise or do you own any exercise equipment. I don't think you need a fill - it just might be your food choices and lack of exercise - Phyl - I had 3/4 mashed potatoes for xmas too - if you ate out you had alot of salt - so give it a day or 2 and the "false fat" should be gone. I would order the top... you gotta stay warm .... Karri - I ramble the most :biggrin1:

Peanut Butter Issue
I am going to get flamed for this - but I did it too and I am not a doctor but think you will be ok imho - I can't give you all the medical reasons why you aren't suppose to do this - but it's about healing -and stomach being stiched over band - I no longer keep Peanut Butter in my house - cuz it has too many calories and I still will go in and have a tablespoon every nite - so I threw it out and haven't bought anymore. I was allowed fudgecicles & puddings on my liquid phase - (sugarfree of course) but they do help can you have these??? I was also allowed creamed Soups (strained) and make soupy mashed potatoes with skim milk - (really potato Soup from instant mashed potatoe) those where my life savers - I got sick of sweet Protein drinks. Good luck - ....

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Hey Brenda - Christmas was wonderful - but glad it's over... Carol - 1/10 that will be here before you know it.. You will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery - Nance all i can tell you is the band is a fickle object - it can take 2 weeks for you to fell restriction - since you are getting full faster then I would say you do have restriction - how much are you able to eat 1 cup 1/2 cup - 2 cups... Notmzperfect - I agree I love my band... I had cookies & tamales over the holidays - but made sure i got my exercise in and lost 1/2 lbs this week. I didn't own a scale prior to being banded so don't know what amount i usually gained but i must have cuz I use to PIG out on the cookies candies etc - My 1st sweets of the season were on 12/22 and over on 12/25 - allowed myself 3 cookies a day... Am looking forward to a healthy & happy 2008...

Airportkat - Welcome - We need some additional info before we can help - age - weight - what are you eating - are you exercising at all. I eat about 1000 - 1200 calories a day - I keep a food & exercise diary and walk on the treadmill minimum 3 miles 4 to 5 times a week. I am losing fairly well for an older more mature woman of a certain age... Phyl - I have some orange centruims but I just don't care for them and I have calicum too - just bought some vitaband from dr b - lemon flavor - and they are ok - I would rather just take a pill - I take my Vitamins at night before bed - cuz they will upset my tummy sometimes too. We haven't had much wind down valley - it's a little breezes but nothing major.. Marcy - Use splenda instead of sugar - it taste the same and will help lessen the calories a tad... OK gang - drum roll... I didn't gain any weight after eating my cookies or tamales - I lost 1/2 of a pound... Exercise does pay off and so does moderation... The loss could be more as I am still real puffy - and I haven't had my aunt flo visit in about a year - but for the last couple of days have been spotting - menopause - just when you think it's done for good - here it comes again... Plus I am coming down with a cold - My head is killing me this morning I was so happy this morning with my 1/2 lbs - even with eating more calories than I ususally do.... I had some cookies that I was going to give a gf w/tamales but they weren't home on Christmas Eve - so last night looking at them - and very tempted to get back in to that whole sugar thing - I just threw them away :clap2: Well, just cking in and tooting my horn cuz I was really afraid of what the scale was going to say this morning - I figured I was going to have to report a gain - but thankfully - I did ok...

Karri I have read a lot where people are only eating 800 calories a day - as long as you can get all your protein in and water - that should be ok What vitamin did you find that small - I have chewables - but I don't much care for them. I would love to take a tiny pill. That's funny you can eat chicken but not potatoes. I have read that if the er doc can't hit the port you want a chemo nurse to unfill you as they are more familiar with ports - fyi just in case.. Well, I just want to make sure that you don't get under nourished and I guess I still think with my old brain – ¼ cup of food isn’t enough to keep you alive  xoxox J

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Karri - Only 1/4 cup - are you able to get all your protein in?? You are really going to be shedding the lbs now.. Be carefull though - I am worried that you may not be getting enough food in.. Also it can take 2 weeks for the fill to hit it's max tightness. Make sure you take your vitimans & calcuim... Are you only eating 3 meals or 6 mini meals... How many calories are you getting..

How does one become a disciplined eater
I am only 5 months out - I wasn't a big junk or fast food eater to begin with - I just ate too much food period and didn't exercise - I did eat high fat and sugar foods before - I would make a tamale pie on Friday nite and it would be 3/4 gone before i went to bed and some times it would be all gone... For me it has just become a lifetime lifestyle way of eating - I eat 4-5 oz of fish for dinner - 1/2 c rice and veggies - i am full .. I don't keep junk in the house - If I do go out to eat (about once every 2 weeks) I eat 1 taco instead of taco, enchillda, rice & bean - I record all my food & exercise in my food diary - I exercise 4-5 days a week. IMHO i took very drastic measure by having surgery to lose the weight so i am utililizing the tool that I have been given I want to live and i think after 52 yrs i have really got it - that it's is a lifetime lifestyle change - i have never lost this amount of weight on any diet before - the most i have lost was 35 - 40 and that was with the help of drugs...

new here and glad to find you!
Welcome Nancy - This is a great place for support and info for newbies... It has been my support system since the begining of my journey to be banded and my support system since. My hospital is starting a lapband only group in February - but it wil only meet once a month - here you come when ever you feel like it and there is always someone to talk to about your issues or victories....

Here is the truth about the band
Elisa - that pain will happen if you eat too fast (which for most of us has always been a problem) or don't chew well - it sorta feels like you swallowed a ping pong ball that won't go down - it sorta hurts but not real pain for me.. you do forget sometimes and eat too fast - and it will happen - then you say oh ya I have a lapband.. I chose my band as it is less invasive - you don't have the whole malnurtion issue that you do with bypass - you might not lose the weight as fast but at the end of 2 yrs they say our weight lost is the same - but imho what really is the key to lossing weight - is healthy food choices and exercise.

I want to have a piece of cake
Teamcarey - 1 piece of cake is ok - it is real life - it is what normal eating people do - it's not that one piece that adds 5 lbs - its the 2nd 3rd or whole damn thing. If you have the cake take a extra long walk - when I have a treat I pay myself back by exercising a little more. Exercise is $$$ in the bank - it allows you to have a treat now and then Good Luck & Merry Christmas...

Phyl - you got your protein in with that hot dog and not eating the roll is the changes in our eating that are going to make us successfull... That was 200 calories less than what you would have eaten pre-banding by not eating the bread.. I'm like Earl I like my raisins on the dry side not too juciy Thanks Linda !!! It is such a battle - for me the real test will be 3 yrs from now - will i still be successful - do you know that just cuz i am so gun ho now that i am afaird of what the furture holds.. Will this really be a lifetime lifestyle change for me.. I don't want you to be discouraged - this is a life long battle - just take it one hour at a time if need be - just feel the power when you say NO - it is a powerful feeling when you have control - It's not all about the food - it's about the power - you are the one with the gray matter between your ears - you are more powerful that that cookie on the plate.. I find that more comforting that eating,.... But again sometime i miss it.. We are here for you ...

Here is the truth about the band
Elisa You can feel your port under your skin when you look for it - but just sitting here no I don't feel it. Your port site is what usually hurts the longest after surgery - I think about 2 week you can have a little discomfort at the port site - I never took any pain meds after I left the hospital. As to the other pain everyone talks about - I guess you mean the gas pains - I had a bad attack on day 2 in my right shoulder but I was still in the hospital so the pain shot fixed it - but after I got home I just took the gasx strips and it took care of the gas.. They say walking & heating pad helps too.. But never really had too much pain once I got home.. Hope this answered your questions.. If you have more just ask..
