Flour Tortillas and Almond Milk
The almond milk sounds good - but not enough Protein for me I can eat both flour & corn tortillas - I have gotten stuck on corn that was only warmed over gas flame - but when fried no problem - flour I can do if i take small bites and eat slowly - had a burrito last nite for dinner.

Ok gang it's official that new scale I got is BROKEN (its going back) - IT'S WRONG mine is CORRECT !!! Just got back from the Dr's - I lost 6.5 from last month which is exactly what my scales say. He said he put in 1 cc - he tried 2 & then 1.5 but i was sliming on Water ... I don't keep track of this but said he pulled out 4.8 so I guess he put back 5.8 Kari I was reading an artical in a magazine while at the doctors about the need to eat - it was about searching for food - for our emonitional hunger... When we are craving love - and aren't getting it - we turn to food.. boredom stress etc - it talked about those times when you don't know what you want - but you want to eat - so you just keep on eating - I wanted to steal the magazine to quote all the good stuff that was in it. Ok well I gotta get to work will ck back later

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Welcome Arkie- 1955 was a good yr - I will be 53 at the end of the month. Bonnie You are normal about being excited & scared at the same time - I think we all were I exercise & eat about 1000-1200 calories a day - low fat mostly sugar free I keep a food diary log calories & protein grms - I follow a weight watcher eating plan - but follow band rules protein first. I weight myself only once a week - for me it's Thrusday mornings - I walk 3 - 16.5 minute miles a day - usually 4 to 5 times a week. Remembr the band is ony a tool - 75% of the work is up to you - making good food choices and exercising - the band will do the other 25% once you have proper restriction - they are going to band your tummy - not your brain - and the majority of our problems are in our brains and not our stomach. I love my band - I use to sleep my weekends away - now on Saturday mornings I am at the gym at 7:30 - then out and about - not sleeping - I feel 100% better than I did 6 months ago. We have a new main thread on the 50's board - I think it say We have an new spot - Post there as that's the thread most of us are on. Welcome and read read read - ask questions - We are here for you..

Kari - omg are you ever going to get to eat again The First time I got filled and the doc asked if I had done crunches (it took him forever to find the soft spot in my port) I told him no - so ever since then I have been afraid to crunches - afriad my port would flip:ohmy: Kristin - Sorry about your port pain - I can't help on that one my doesn't hurt anymore. Soup sounds good - but it 1/4 of a cup for a serving 272 calories - 1 point = 50 calories (about) and for a non banded person 1/4 cup isn't very much =NEVER MIND 1/4 OF THE SOUP - read stupid Janet. NEVER MIND... Congratulations Jackie 78 lbs Told you the ellipcal (sp) was hard - and you are young - I have a glider which i love cuz no stress on your joints - just gotta pull it out of the garage and use it the days that i don't hit the gym - i thought that since i could so that I could do the other - but no way jose.... Oregonrose I understand completely - I'm 52 5'4 250 by the time I had my pre-op visit (gained 5 lbs from all my last meal mentallity) and have been fat most of my life - gain - lose - gain - lose you know the way it goes - I really should be striving for 145 to have a 25 bmi - but at my age - I think 160 will be fine - I will really know once i get there - The band is a great tool - it does help with portion control - but it's only that- you gotta do the rest - you have to eat healthy and exercise - I am not into fad diets - so I pretty much follow what I learned from all my yrs going to WW - But I do follow band rules - Protein 1st. As they saying goes that banded your tummy not your brain and truly that's where most of our problems lie - I will be full but still want to eat - we have alot of head hunger issues - it's far from easy - but easier than doing it all by yourself. This site is the best place for help & support.. Good Luck on your journey.

Productive burp - it's something that happens when your food comes back up - it's not like throwing up more like burping up but can be more forceful than a burp but not gut wrenching like throwing up..

Bloozeye has lost 63 lbs - she is eating healthy - she is losing weight and if she want's a couple of pork skins - so be it - You have to allow your self some wiggle room - it's not the all or nothing mentally - Just because you don't want to eat them - doesn't mean others shouldn't - a little fat isn't going to kill you..

Chim - I don't think I will ever run - last night at the gym my treadmill (yes it is my personal treadmill (under a fan)- I don't understand why other don't see my name written on it and get on it ) was occupied - so I thought I would try the elliptical - OMG - I was on it about 3 minutes then found another treadmill till mine was free - I am not coordinated enough to do that and it hurt my thighs & my knees - So Linda see I don't work out that hard - I did put the treadmill up to 5 incline for 1 songs - and kept it on 1 or 2 for most of my 3 miles. Ok gang - just cking in before I start my day... Will ck back later.

At wits end...please help me find a coping mechanism...
Rain Do you have any one you can call to come watch the girls while you go to the Y?? 14 raisins instead of a bag of chips is a great accomplishment... Be proud of that.. Put on a tape/dvd that they like and and then walk in place while they watch. Get on the floor and do some crunches - or put on some music and dance around the house I know on the days that I have to watch my little grandaughter and can't go to the gym - pisses me off - but then I think - this is my time with her and that's whats important.. I can always go the next day. Good Luck ...

White Bean Soup with Greens
in the dead of winter, there's nothing like a bowl of hot soup to warm your soul and liven up your senses. Plus, broth-based bean- and vegetable-laden soups do more than cure the cold-weather blues: They make a wonderfully filling addition to a meal. Here's a South Beach Diet version of a tasty classic soup. Makes 6 servings Description This southern Italian soup features white beans. Choose from great northern beans, cannellini beans, or any other white bean you happen to have on hand. Ingredients 1 1/2 pounds Swiss chard, escarole, or beet greens, trimmed 6 cups chicken broth 1 clove garlic, crushed 1 cup cooked white beans 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon ground white pepper Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish Red pepper flakes, for garnish Instructions 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the greens and cook for 7 minutes, or until barely tender. Drain the greens, squeezing out as much water as possible. (This can be done several hours before the greens cook in the soup. It is not necessary to cut the greens, because they will break apart as they cook in the soup.) 2. Bring the broth to a simmer in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and greens. If using canned white beans, place them in a strainer and rinse them under cold running water to remove excess sodium. Add the beans to the broth. Simmer gently, partially covered, for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with the salt and pepper to taste. (Do not add the salt until the soup has finished cooking, or it may become too salty.) 3. Ladle the soup into heated bowls. Pass the cheese and pepper flakes at the table. Nutritional Information: 79 calories 2 g total fat (1 g sat) 0 mg cholesterol 12 g carbohydrate 6 g protein 4 g fiber

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Hey Karri was getting worried about you and the trip over the mountain - Glad you made it home safely, How are you feeling as far as your fill level right now... Can you eat??... You should be very proud of yourself - you have done so well - and you have over come a MAJOR issue about the sneaking food. You are doing the work and need to take the credit - be happy and accept this great success you have had to date - with your determination you will be to goal before your one year anniversary Truly we banders are only supposed to lose 50-70 % of our excess body weight in a 2 yr period I wonder why that is... I wonder why they don't challenge us to loss like 80 to 100% of our excess weight - even with bypass they don't expect 100% weight loss... I agree with you on the Insurance issue they should cover a nutritionist - weight is a big issue and a lot people out there don’t know how to eat correctly.. I bet if you were diabetic they would cover it.. You had my cracking up on the to many variables - I truly think it is flawed… On my weigh in day – I get on the scale the minute I get up then after using the bathroom – then again – I usually get on it about 3 or 4 times before I will accept a weight – 188.5 – 188 – 188.5 – 188. I will take the 188 - I wanted the new scale as it goes to the .2 – where my scale only goes .5 – so I wanted the 187.8 – instead of it going to 188. It’s all a mind game but you know what I am saying I want to see those extra numbers – but of course only if they are in my favor… Well, not much action tonight – its 6; 45 so I think I am going to go cook my fish and watch some TV. Kari – you don’t have to hide out – your food angels were really your fairy god mothers today... I agree with everything Karri said... Even skinny people pig out every now and then – these are the things we have to learn… We just can’t let it spiral into our old behavior… If I don’t get back – good night sweet dreams everyone

Becca I have seen the thread - but I don't know what it intails - I go to the gym and walk 3 miles on the treadmill 4 to 5 days a week.. It works for me I don't like exercising too much - but know that if i want to be able to eat & lose weight I gotta exercise. Welcome by the way

Ruby - I looked for that but didn't find anything - I am marking it up to an error on the new scale.. But will wait unitl I go to the doc's on Wed... I have read on the boards that Aunt Flo can make your band tighter. I'm with you on the protein shakes - what I do is add some red seed grapes - banana - rasperry and a thingie of yogurt ice and vanilla or unflavor powder and it comes out ok - - add alot of fruit it helps...

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Kari - I Ok what was going on that made you want to eat ... That’s my 1st question – what was behind the urge to eat everything in sight – were , stressed – what were you feeling… I believe that sometime we do have to give in to our urges - but we need to limit them - Ok self - I really want ice cream - go out to ice cream store get a double scoop of your fav and eat it (don't buy half gallon cuz you will keep eating til it's all gone) - whatever you want - go out and have some or make a portion (normal) and sit down eat it - enjoy it - savor it - then say to yourself - OK I had it - I enjoyed it - I feel better - I am done.. We are NOT on a DIET we are just learning to eat healthy - and some days we aren't - it's what you do 98% of the time that is going to show your successes - not that 2% - Another suggestion is that you keep low calorie healthy snacks around for these times - I eat popcorn when I just want to eat - or I will just get the hell out of the house. Your penance is that I want you to ride your bike an extra 20 miles this week.. :wink2:
