Gosh! I am getting the sleeve to add years to my life, not cut them down
ALSO< Girls, how did you get to get the B12 shot? That is so good for you? Do you have to pay cash for it? How much is it? Sorry for so many questions but I haven't even had the sleeve yet and know I need these shots. But, insurance won't cover them anymore.

I can understand even though I don't feel the same. It's tough. I will keep you and all are struggling in my prayers. Today it's dark and cloudy, but tomorrow the sun will shine bright.

One of the most difficult aspects of this whole deal is dealing with our heads. I often wish I could have brain surgery along with the VSg - to remove the portion of my brain that is addicted to food Take a deep breath and keep on going - eat for nutrition, less for enjoyment, and learn to find enjoyment through other things - it is key to succeeding at this, and no it is not easy.

I was always a little over weight then I became anorexic in high school and got really sick my bones in my spine started deteriorating I was not taking Vitamins either. Doctors told me I needed to start eating so I did but not much the. I got pregnant and gained 90lbs I ate 3 meals a day but blew up I tried every diet and exercise I would loose 20-30 lbs then gain it back then I had another kid next thing I know I am 5'4 and weighed 325lbs!!! After 7 years I decided I could not live like that any longer my doctor recommended me for weight loss surgery and I chose the sleeve. Anyways I'm 4 weeks post op and I've lost 33lbs :) the sleeve has been around for years it's part of the duel Dina switch. They use to use a bigger sleeve but now it's smaller docs realized people could loose weight with just the sleeve! My doc and the pulmonary doc both told me this would add years to my life as heart problems and diabetes run in my family. So I don't believe that it cuts off 18 years of your life.

I really question the logic behind the "18 years" thing. Why would medical science and the FDA (and other countries health care counterparts) approve a WLS procedure whose goal it is is to reduce obesity related diseases thereby also reducing obesity related illnesses and deaths if that same WLS procedure also decreases the patients life expectancy by 18 years? That just doesn't make sense. I am not doubting you....just really questioning what you've been told.

I'd like to know more about that, too, luckysmomma. Can you tell me where I can read about how the sleeve takes 18 years off people's lifespans? I did a quick browse of Google but couldn't find anything. The only thing I did find related to VSG was data on how obesity raises your chances of dying early by 50% or more.

I am almost 3 months out from surgery and down 50 pound, my BMI was 58.8 and now it is 49.9. I still have a long ways to go but I will hang in there. We are need to support each other in a positive way. We are know this was not going to be easy but I think we are all doing our best. I feel so sorry for those who are having a rough time right now. Complications can come up anything during the 1st year after surgery and I hope and pray these are issues that can be helped with our surgeons and nutrionists. The not eating is a bummer but this is what we wanted, we had surgical intervention to help us stop eating and gain control over food and this surgery sure does do that. Anyone will gain weight back including myself if we do not learn anything from this. Most of us are emotional eaters, we eat when we are happy, sad, frustrated or feel that our friends and family just don't get us. I know I have an eating disorder and no Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or Nutrasystem diet is going to cure me so this surgery has helped me. I also have thryroid issues so it is just tough for me all the way around. My heart goes out to those folks who are sufferning from the surgery but really try to stay positive, we had all made the decision to have this surgery and there is not going back. Ebrace today and the days to come and with the help of God we can make it to our goals. I have already seen changes in some of my friends, some do not like seeing me 50 pounds lighter and this makes me laugh since I have another 120 pounds to go. If they are this way now, what the hell are they going to be like another 120 pounds from now? I think I need to start looking for a new support group and new friends. Hang in there guys we are on our way!!!! The journey is really a life long process.
