Tell Us About You!
Hello all! I was banded last Tuesday and am feeling good! I'm looking so forward to this next year and the weight loss journey. I am married with 27 and 20 yr. old daughters and a 19 yr. old son. The two youngest are now in college and so am I. I will be applying for the nursing program this December and am so very excited about it. I am looking forward to all the support from everyone on this forum and will offer my support wherever it is needed. We can do this!

I'm Not Losing Weight
Sometimes if your not eating enough and your exercising, your body will try to hold on to the fat for self preservation. I agree with everyone else that you should keep a journal and figure out what the problem is there. You can also go to prevention.com and there are tools there to figure out how many calories your burning and also how many calories it takes just to maintain your body each day.

3 Days Post-Op
Woke up with another headache today. It must be the lack of food. I have had so few liquids, other than water and yet have gained 1.5 lbs. Guess my body is trying to hold on to everything it can and I'm in starvation mode? Or it could be from the gas still inside my body. I have been taking Gas-X and have had very little gas pain. I am going to work on getting more calories in today. I am feeling good other than the headaches and am taking less of the pain medication that was prescribed to me by the dr. I am looking so forward to this next year and everything it has to offer. This time last year I was on the Medifast diet and lost 42 lbs. At my surgery date I had gained almost all of it back. I wish I would have gone ahead and had the lap band surgery last year instead of trying Medifast. That diet is too hard for me to stick to for the rest of my life.

Update! from yesterday
MiniVanMommy, I guess as long as your burping your getting the gas out of your body and I believe that is what you want so the gas pains will ease up. I am taking the Gas-X thin strips and have not had much trouble with gas yet. I haven't lost any weight and am up 1.5 lbs. (Maybe I need to quit taking the Gas-X strips and let it go.) I can't figure this out since I have had hardly anything at all other than Water and other liquids. I guess my body is trying to hold on to everything it can and is in starvation mode? I don't know but it is frustrating. I hope your gas pain lets up soon.

Update! from yesterday
Kim, What are you drinking for the clear liquid stage? My days 1-10 allow me 3 Protein shakes a day and two Snacks in between which can be one of the following: coffee, tea, fruit juice, crystal light, sugar free kool-aid, Water, skim milk, sugar free Jello and pudding or popsicles, low fat yogurt, applesauce and baby food fruit and broth. It seems strange that I can have the pudding, jello, yogurt, applesacue and baby food since it is not actually a liquid. I would prefer to be on the safe side while my stomach heals and do just liquids so that is what I am going to try. I just need more ideas on liquids. Thanks.

Hello from Texas
Hi Loribeth, I did use Dr. Felts with True Results in Richardson. I was a cash pay patient so my process was pretty quick. I went in to speak with a nurse practitioner the first part of August and it was decided that I need to have the normal blood work but also an EKG and a stress test before I could go forward. So I had the blood work and EKG with my regular doctor and the stress test was done with True Results on Thursday, the 21st, and I had surgery the next Tuesday, the 26th of August. Monday before the surgery I, along with about 5 others, met at Dr. Felts office for a consult. This involved a former patient visiting with us and handing out papers for us all to go over together. She explained that she has lost 93 lbs. and no longer has any saline solution in her band now and has adapted well. We went over all the paperwork which told us about the diet afterwards, the golden rules and what to do the night before and right after surgery. Afterwards Dr. Felts met with us one-on-one. He had me get up on the table and showed me where the port would go and where all the incisions would be made. He was very reassuring to me about the EKG and stress test and told me that with my health history there would be no problem at all. I really did like him and found him to be very informative. He told me that he has performed over 740 something surgeries and has only had to close up, and not finish, three of them due to liver size. The day of surgery I arrived at 7:15 and filled out more paperwork. The secretary and nurses were very nice and made me feel comfortable. Dr. Felts came by and asked me if I was ready and said he would see me in the OR. After I drank the "margarita mix" I don't remember much up until right before I went home. Overall it was a good experience for me. I was sort of out of it the whole first day and had headaches up until this morning. After I had my first cup of coffee since the surgery, this morning, the headache went away. I didn't know if it was the lack of caffiene or lack of food giving me the headache. If there is anything else you need to know don't hesitate to ask.

Donna's Journey
Today I am two days post-op and feeling much better than I did yesterday and the day before. My main problem has been the headaches. I don't know if it is from no caffeine or no food. The first day I came home from the hospital I felt terrible and was really out of it. I didn't read up on my instructions like I should have and tried to sip on a shake to keep from getting a headache. I shouldn't have done that and I shouldn't have crushed some Advil and taken it to make the headache go away. "Only Tylenol" I was told after that. Gee what else can I do wrong. My mom stayed with me the first and second day and I finally told my sisters and cousin yesterday that I had the surgery. They were pretty angry with me for not telling them. I didn't know that it was actually going to happen until the day before due to some EKG and stress test issues that ended up being okay. At least the dr. said there should be no problems considering my health history. I still have a cardiologist appt. next Wednesday for my own peace of mind. I'm just glad to have the lap band surgery out of the way. I'm looking so forward to this next year. Donna

Hello from Texas
Hello, I'm new here and was banded on Tuesday morning by Dr. Felts. It was a good experience but I'm a little sore and have headaches due to not being able to eat much. It has been better this morning and I believe I'm on the uphill swing of things now. I'm looking forward to corresponding with everyone on this forum and getting any tips I can. Donna
