Keepgoing247 got a reaction from ANewMe16 in Breastfeeding mommas!?
Hi, I am now 6 days post op and am a nursing Mom.
I can imagine the mixed emotions you have regarding the surgery / nursing!
I spoke with my PCP and my surgeon and both were ok with me nursing and continuing to do so post surgery. Between my pre-op diet and surgery, I am down 32 lbs and I feel fantastic!
I did a lot of research to make sure that continuing to breastfeed would be safe for my son and myself. This is a personal decision, that only you and your Dr can make.
Good luck, however you decide! Keep me posted.

I wasn't aware that there was any official relationship between BariatricPal and Dr. Almanza, but I am glad of this change. I know there are many patients of Dr. Almanza on these forums who have had good experiences and been very successful with their surgeries, but the percentages of complications and negative stories have been concerning.

When I told my closest friend of 30 years that I was going through the process to get Gastric sleeve bypass she fell silent. I knew she wasn't happy about it. I've always weighed less than her and to her that meant I didn't need to lose more than she was willing to. I have been working with my Fitbit for about 2 years now and have had MS diagnosed since 2007. I developed gestational diabetes which turned into Type 2 diabetes. Despite changes to my diet and exercise my health is declining. My doctor recommended the surgery. Now, I have tamped up my health regimen and my husband bought me a new Fitbit scale. She became livid that he would waste 120 dollars on a scale. She argued and belittled and snubbed me because of a scale. I gave her several ways out so she could tell me what's really wrong. We have now not talked in a month. Her husband called me yesterday to tell me he thinks she is jealous and that's why she was so mean to me. He wants me to call her to give her a chance to apologize. I know that she won't receive the call that way.
I was hurt by her and this isn't the first time her jealously has put a wedge between us. We hadn't talked for years before because of her bullying one of my children and beating her own. I forgave that and as I am older I kinda feel like with the shedding of weight and poor health.. It's time to shed people who only feel good when I'm not doing so well or as they perceive better than them. I was her biggest cheerleader through the trials in her life. I think now it's time to be my own cheerleader. I can't compromise on doing better for my own quality of life.

    WLS weight (June) - 331lbs
    Current weight as of 11/11 - 259lbs
    I'm pretty happy.

It is 3 years today that I went for my life saving surgery. I had no idea of the positives or negatives that would befall me on this journey. I wonder if I knew then what I know now would I have done it at all.
I think the answer is yes! With all the complications and difficulties I personally faced and still am facing I am a changed girl. One that is free to walk long distances. Go anywhere with out people staring or making unkind remarks. I have become invisible to the masses. I like that a lot.
Soon I will undergo skin removal surgery and will really be changed forever. ( always being watchful of my addiction of course )
I live in a different world now. I started my own business and now work for a organization that appreciates my efforts. My journey is unfolding before my eyes. For the good may I say.
I don't feel the same about anything in my life. I can't remember being this happy and it all began with the approval for WLS. I know who I am better. My weaknesses and I have much more compassion for others.
The complications I still have are a strict reminder of where I have been and how far I have come. It has been quite a ride!
Thank you everyone for being part of it. Couldn't have done it without the support of so many on this site.
Thank you Alex for giving us a place to discuss freely the ups and downs of WLS.

After losing over 150 pounds from my highest weight, I finally broke down and bought two new bras and underwear. I was planning to buy the next two sizes down of underwear all summer but kept putting it off. Since bra sizes are harder to predict I just ignored the decision. I finally ordered the next three lower sizes of underwear so I will be prepared.
It feels so good to wear underwear that fits!

Just thought I'd post a little update. June 5, I was at my heaviest 410 pounds. I felt like DEATH...literally. I had SEVERE sciatica which caused me to go onto disability after working for YEARS...I couldn't walk. I couldn't stand. I couldn't sit. All I could do is LAY THERE and cry because of the nerve pain down my left leg and lower back. It was either back surgery or weight loss surgery. Since I also HAD high blood pressure and PCOS plus VERY obese and the severe sciatica...I thought weight loss surgery would be my best bet. Plus, healing would be 2837739354928 times harder if I were to under go back surgery at my weight. Dr's told me over and over again that losing weight may or may not help my bulging disc which was in turn causing the sciatica but I went for it and just hoped for the best. Day of surgery 9/2, I was 367 pounds (I went on a damn strict diet) and today...I am 314!!! I am also BACK AT WORK with no more sciatica pain what-so-ever!!! I'm off all meds for high blood pressure and I'm feeling fanDAMNtastic!!!!! I love the way o feel and more so, I LOVE ME. I've never been one to post pics....but here we go. Not ready for the whole "body shot" because this girl is under construction but here goes nothin!!! Top picture is day before surgery...the collage pic on left is last month and on the right is yesterday! I drink 64oz+ Water each day...and always try to get 90g of protein...even if I finish my day with a premier protein!! Alot of you girls and guys on here don't know how many of us look forward and look up to your updates and advice...@Babbs...@Elode...@InnerSurferGirl...all 3 of u girls I look up to and I cannot wait to keep on keeping on. Thank You from the bottom of my heart!!! -Vanessa

Keepgoing247 reacted to Stevehud in Protein Powder Mugcake
SO i found a recipe for a particular flavor of this and I tried it with my own flavor and Voila it really works, and is awesome and if you use the right stuff its fat free sugar free and loaded with Protein.
Basically it is a scoop of your favorite flavor Protein powder, I used Syntrax Matrix chocolate, but i know its made with Peanut Butter cookie flavor as well and i think it'd work with just about any flavor that you would make a cake out of.
Basically in a mug or coffee cup, microwave safe, you take 1 scoop of Protein Powder, add 1/8th teaspoon of baking powder and mix thoroughly. Then add non dairy Creamer, ( i use the coffee mate sugar free italian sweet cream) until it is cake batter consistency. stir it up and microwave for 45 to 60 seconds. then let it cool a little , (not too much though) and top with sugar free whipped topping or sugar free choclate drizzle or your favorite sugar free caramel or flavored Syrup etc, . It basically make a mugcake like a lava cake, and the way i make it it has zero fat, zero sugar and about 100 calories. So if you need that cake like fix ( please use responsibly) then this is awesome and you get ( my version) 24 grams of Protein as well.
    It really is excellent!
Let me know what you think.

    Bari-Bread: Prep time - 10 minutes, Cook time - 20-30 minutes
Let's start with the basics. I'm sure many of us wish we could still have some sort of bread, even if only as a vehicle for meat, eggs, or cheese on our sandwiches. Despite their apparent simplicity, this riff on Paleo Oopsie Rolls have a great flavor reminiscent of potato bread and easily modifiable to meet most any palatte.
    Ingredients:
    1/8 tsp cream of tartar
    1/8 tsp salt
    3 egg whites
3 Tbsp lowfat cream cheese or neufchatel, room temparature
    2 Tbsp Water
    Preparation:
    Preheat oven to 300F
Beat egg whites & cream of tartar until stiff peaks form
Blend Water, salt & cream cheese
Fold cream cheese mixture into egg whites gently
Spoon in 6 equal sized 'patties' on nonstick surface (parchment paper with NS spray or silpat)
Bake at 300F for 20-30 minutes depending upon elevation. Remove when browned but at about the texture of the tip of your nose.
Remove from baking sheet and allow to cool to room temperature
Store in refrigerator in an open ziploc

Keepgoing247 got a reaction from Dub in Self pay ..what did you do?
My husband and I both had our surgery the same day in TJ with Dr Quinones. We paid half cash and the other half we put on our credit card. It should be paid off within the month or so. I hate having debt, but in this case I'm glad we did it.
We recently used our CareCredit for my husband's LASIK surgery. They offer 2 years no interest IF paid in full within the 2 years. That one will be paid off before summer.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll find a way that works for you!!

Hi everyone, it has been 1 month since I posted my weight. When I first started my reset I was 187. Now 5 weeks later I'm at 172.8 This has been hard but so rewarding. I found my willpower. Yesterday at work my team had pizza party and brownies and Oreo balls. I went into the room and talked and everything. What did I eat.....absolutely nothing. I drank my Water. Everyone kept trying. To get me to eat and I was like no I'm dieting. In my mind I was thinking if I eat that then I won't lose tomorrow when I get on the scale and that's not worth it. This struggle is real but I truly believe we can achieve our goals and be successful....trying for 6 to 8 more pounds by my doctors appointment whic is March 27.
