  1. Personally, I wouldn't do the band due to the complications it can cause; and it causes many and some are major. My surgeon said they are trying to get rid of them due to all the complications. I'm having my sleeve on 12/19 and feel it's the perfect choice for me. My advise to you is to do a ton of research, go to obesityhelp.com and you can read forums on each of the different surgeries to see how people do with them. There are hundreds of people that have gone from lapband to sleeve due to complications; so why have 2 surgeries when you can just have one :) Good luck!

  2. I feel ya to, My husband is also not supportive, although he thinks he is because he went with me to see the surgeon. He asked the Dr. if he ever had anyone die on the table, that was it. I am tentatively scheduled for 12/19 awaiting approval. All my tests have been done and I know I qualify. I just hope my insurance doesn't decide to be asses about it and require more than what their policy says they do. Anyway, you have to do what is best for you, especially if it's to improve your overall health. They'll either deal with it, or they won't. Life goes on! Best of luck to you and hope you have a smooth recovery.

  3. Hi nancer, I am also beginning my journey. I have fini. shed all my tests and will hopefully have surgery on 12/19/12, which can't come soon enough for me. You will find a great support system here. Feel free to ask questions, and although everyone is different I'm sure you can find answers to all of them. Good luck on your journey and I wish you a speedy recovery.

  4. I totally understand where you are coming from. I weigh today the same as I did when we got married 7 years ago; and I know he likes a heavier set woman. He told me straight out he's not looking forward to the saggy skin (my aunt had RNY done 2 years ago and hers is really bad, but she was quite a bit heavier than I am) but I told him if he loves me then he would want me to be around as long as I can be, which if I don't have this surgery won't be long at all. He says he understands, and he tries to show support, but deep down he just doesn't get it. But it is what it is, and if he doesn't like the new healthy, skinny, energetic me....saggy skin and all, then I guess he can go on his way. I will be just fine, because I will be alive!

  5. I to am just starting my journey. I have finished all my pre-op testing and now am just waiting for my surgery on 12/19/12. I've told several girls I work with and they are all very supportive and understand why I'm doing it; my husband, however, is a different story. He loves me the way I am, and is afraid of the "dying on the table" risk, but he also understands why I'm doing it. After all, if he loves me that much he should want me around longer right? lol Just remember you are doing this for YOU, not anyone else. Keep your eye on the prize and you'll get there for sure. Anyway, good luck on your journey and can't wait to hear about your victories..
