I stopped trying, everyone once in a while I'll have a rough day anf add a shake but now get my Protein in without shakes. It's not as difficult as it sounds. My doctor also told me that it is preferable. I snack on beef jerkey and eat only high protein foods and I am at or above 60 everyday!

Try hot chocolate, if you're a chocolate person. This is what I would do. I would get two packets of sugar free cocoa and two scoops unflavored powder (Nectar). I would put a little Water in a blender (enough to cover the tines, maybe 1/4c?) and dump the powders in and make kind of a Syrup base that I would then add hot water to, about 10 oz or so (I like strong chocolate ). For my first month or so, it was my major protein source and my go-to Breakfast drink.

That's ridiculous. When I asked my surgeon if 59 was too old, he sincerely and emphatically answered, "NO!!!" Find another surgeon. And I too had a hiatal hernia repaired, and I was NOT in a great deal of pain, just discomfort. The only true pain I had was the blasted gas pain in the shoulder.
And I have had great success with this surgery at the age of 59.

I Loved that ordered a salad with steak for dinner. Best part was when the waitress kept asking is your dinner OK.....Do you need a to go box? I know some are uncomfortable in those situations but to me it's a reminder that I no longer eat huge portions. I also order because of taste not because I want the biggest serving to fill me up.

I would also look into local prices, for most of my area the price difference is around $800 - $1000 cheaper. Once I factor in travel and all that stuff it isn't worth it. A lot of procedures are cheaper than people think!

Sparrow in Lansing...they are the closest Bariatric COE and I had previously gone through them when I considered an RNY bypass a few years ago (decided malabsorption wasn't for me) and they are good people/good program. I also work in downtown Lansing so it will make follow up appointments easier etc.

I'm scheduled for the 13th! I'm so excited. I've done my pre-op meeting and paid for the surgery (I'm self pay). I'm finding I'm rather calm at the moment. Just a wonderful sense of peace with all this. I think the next few days will be packing and catching up with the family laundry. No real pre-op diet. I just had to lose 5% of my weight before I got my date. And now I've got to just keep it off (no last big splurge). Well, the day before I'm on Clear Liquids only (no red or purples). I get my surgery time Friday. I'm so excited I'm just rambling on.

Awesome carol! I was sleeved nov 6 (almost 7 wjs post op), and im doing well. I, too, have troubles with some foods. Beef really bothers me. Im on soft foods, and im enjoying that for now. I havent weighed since 5 wks out, and at that point I was 32 lbs down.
    Congrats on your successes!

Go to Amazon and type in unflavored Protein powder. You will find several options. I dissolve it in my tea and coffee. I was the Protein Shake queen before surgery having a hard time drinking them now at 3 1/2 weeks out.

In getting myself excited about the upcoming journey, I've decided to list some things I can't wait to say good bye to forever!

the plus size section: though its been a necessity, they never have clothing that fits my stylish personality. ready to wear the stuff I circle in my magazines
Triple D bras: Although people pay for breast this size, I'm a living witness that they do a number on one's lower back. Besides paying $70-$100 for one bra that isn't even all that cute, I can finally wear dressy shirts to work that don't look so provocative
Dieting! This probably should've been #1 on my list. Thank goodness to get rid of all the pills and fads and plain ol falling into the trap of trying to lose a few pounds here and there. This weight is going for good!
Never feeling full. I don't know about some, but for me, my appetite matched my weight. I feel so hungry all the time. Ghrelin or whatever that hormone is called has kicked my a@$ for a while and now I can eat feel satisfied.
Size 9 and 10 rings. I hated shopping for jewelry because my fingers were so huge. I'd pick the cutest rings and have to have them re-sized two sizes bigger. Now I have my rings in a standard size
Not being able to finish my mile time in under 13 minutes. When I was in high school I ran track and could run a mile in about 5-6minutes. Since I've been in college, I can't even run a full lap without huffing and puffing for my breath. One thing I will make my top priority is my endurance. LA Marathon here I come

This was just to name a few, but they definitely were some major hinderances in my years of being overweight. I don't know about you other December sleevers, but at least we never have to leave another year obese again! The perfect ending of a year!
    (doing my happy dance) lol

5'0" started at 205 currently 145 surgery was 2-6-12 highest weight of 215. I now wear a 6 Pants and a medium shirt. . No problems other than i also had Hair loss. Started 3 mo out and stopped 6 mo out. My hair was thin to begin with so it's still recouping! I pretty much eat whatever I'm hungry for just much smaller portions than before and I really haven't exercised at all but I plan to after the holidays. It's been a great experience !

My thoughts and prayers are with you. With the Chemo and everything you have to go through, there is no reason not to follow the actual plan that most doctors put you on before, during and after surgery.
There is absolutely no reason not to sign up to myfitnesspal.com, no reason not to eat 80 grams of Protein a day, drink 64 ounces of Water a day, no reason not to limit your carbohydrates to 20-40 grams a day, no reason not to stay within 800-1200 a day.
You can still do this while going through Chemo. Actually, this may help you more so. Chart your food, drink your Water. Eat your meat first, vegetables second, chew everything up really well.
There is no reason not to still walk in place, while going through this. Wait 1/2 hour after eating to drink your water, give up Soda now.
I lost 70 pounds before I had surgery. I know it would be definitely hard to deal while dealing with cancer, but I do have a brain tumor and I do have lupus and I did it before surgery. Your dream of having surgery isn't over, but I honestly believe you can strive to change your eating lifestyle now.
You are in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you nothing but the best. I can imagine the disappointment you feel but there is no reason to give up the fight and there is even more of a reason to be vigilant. If you eat healthier and drink more water, you will only benefit.
Kick the cancer's butt, while getting your butt in shape. You can fight and win both battles at once!
