Thank you for posting! I'm not sleeved yet. However, I was just talking with my husband today and said I hoped I would be able to not even "try" the foods that I shouldn't eat. I'm hoping to be able to treat them like drugs, so instead of trying bread or Pasta to see if I can eat them, I hope to never find out in the first place and assume that I can't tolerate them!
I actually like low carb foods and really enjoy exercising, just harder to do these days at this weight.
Since you've only regained 8 pounds so far, it's a great time to nip it in the bud and get back to it!
I'm hoping to have my surgery in December. What advice would you be giving me? Let's do this!

There's a vets forum where people might be able to help you as well. Several if them are dealing with what you seem to be feeling re being able to eat more etc. if you lost 100 lbs and have only gained back 8, that's pretty fantastic though, right? You seem to be catching the regain early.

I am sorry you didn't get to were you wanted to be in your weight. But remember why you did it in the first place. You were strong enough to do the surgery and lose the weight. Now you have to find that interperson and listen to it again and start eating right and getting more active. I have not had my surgery yet. It is the 24th of this month, and I know it is hard to exercise when you don't have anyone to do it with. But we both have to get moving for a better life.

Hi. I'm Sharon and I'm 49 years old. I had the sleeve in 2011. I lost 100 lbs. over the next 11 months or so. Then it stopped. This past year I have held steady mostly but crept up about 8 lbs. give or take.
I know I didn't do it right. The first year was wonderful. I could eat just a little bit and have that full feeling and still lose weight. But now I can eat a lot more before I feel full and it's causing me not to lose weight. I also eat carbs again. And I don't exercise enough.
LOL. So yes, I've done everything wrong. But I'm still glad I had the sleeve. It's made it possible to wear clothes that are not made by a tent-maker and I can move around without as many aches and pains. Still have a lot of back pain but that's arthritis that weight loss has not helped.
I never got my BMI under 30. I have considered doing the DS but I know that if I keep eating carbs it probably won't help much in the long run.
Just thought I would come here and see if I could get motivated to do the whole diet and exercise thing again. And maybe recapture some of the excitement of those first months when I was losing and feeling so great!
Just take my advice anyone who is new: Do NOT eat until you feel full and keep exercising and don't go back to the carbs. It is a good thing to have a VSG but it is still diet and exercise that you have to do.

Getting real tired of scales not moving. Beginning to think I am done losing. Guess 66 pounds is it for me. Getting depressed. Will lose a couple of pounds and then gain them back. I retain a lot of Fluid. Been having bleeding issues since preop non stop bleeding. Hysterectomy coming my way beginning of the year. And my thyroid is a huge issue. Changed meds 3 times now since surgery. I am very greatful for what I have lost dont get me wrong. But I feel as if I'm a failure at this. Going from a size 26 to a 16 is wonderful. But I still have 30 to 40 more pounds to lose to be where I want to be at. Afraid I will not make it

I was a coke zero addict and have totally lost the addiction now.
Every now and again I feel like a sip of coke zero (once every two months) and so I have a sip and that's it, cravings gone!
One thing that I am addicted to now though is Powerade. Mmm!

slimagainsoon reacted to natalie_christin in Can we have even 1 or 2 grams of sugar post op without dumping?
My doctors have advised that the sleeve does not encounter the dumping syndrome. They of course want you to stay away from sugars and carbs but it's that's in order to lose weight. I already have other stomach problems and that's one of the reasons I picked the sleeve over the band or the original gastric bypass. Another form of Vitamins if you're interested, minor called Bariatric Fusion You can look online for those as well. From what my nutritionist said, you can't just take a regular Multivitamin. There's other vitamins that you need as well.

It does sound like you need a schedule, even if it is just an alarm going off every 30 minutes to tell you to take a drink or two of something. Consider staying on a protien drink until you can be sure you are getting enough nutrition in.
    Good luck!

Well, thing is, I don't feel like I'm some kind of huge stud or something; I just feel like maybe this is what a "normal, healthy" male libido is like at my age when you're near target weight, working on your physical fitness, and are rarin' to go.
In other words, it's not so much "I'm such a stud now!" as "Why on EARTH didn't I get this surgery in my 20's..."

First real "encounter" since the surgery (lots of fooling around, but yesterday was... the full meal deal). And... guys... wow. GET THIS SURGERY.
Before the surgery, I was a real "one minute wonder" (if I could even get lucky; at 338, it doesn't happen much). I would be panting and wheezing and see spots, and I was lucky to even be able to finish. I was used to the woman not... finishing, either.
    Yesterday.
    SEVEN. HOURS.
She had more... moments of joy than I could count (maybe 12? 15? 20?), and I had... THREE.
THREE. In one night! Guys, I'm 42. That just doesn't HAPPEN to guys my age.
And it certainly never happened before the sleeve.
Good god, men, if you have ANY problems in that area at all and are pre-sleeve, RUN, don't walk, and get the surgery.
UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE. I thought that stuff only happened in porno movies...
Ok, I'll shut up now. But... wow.
    Sore... exhausted... and happy
Edit: uh, it wasn't seven hours continuously, I should mention... 8pm till 3am, but not all, uh, action. Even at my current fitness level, that WOULD kill me. Seven hours of go... rest, chat, laugh... go... rest, chat, laugh... repeat until too sore and exhausted to continue! And NOW I WILL shut up.

There's some thinking out there that that WLS is a catalyst. It strengthens relationships that were already strong, but tends to be very hard on marriages/relationships that are already struggling. Not surprised, with as many of us that are on the forum, that we are in different places with our SOs.

I will not make a call for you if you are asking is it OK to compromise your wedding vows. If you need companionship there are other ways to achieve that.
Perhaps you should seek to find a remedy within your relationship rather than outside it, if you want the relationship you have.

Yes, the grumbling is your stomach adjusting. I had it for 4 weeks. Even now it does grumble when I eat. My trick is to always have something in your stomach. Try to only go a couple of hours between meals. It gets better!

I'm 7 days post op and this is my last day of Clear Liquids. I've been having what I think are hungry pains but then again I'm thinking is just that the stomach is healing and causing pain. I still have pain meds I Can take but I'm just trying to stay off them. Is this normal?

I had my surgery in dec and my outlet is a snickers bar. I never did drugs or alcohol so no that's not an issue with me. The therapist that we had before surgery said that some turn to alcohol and I may since I can't overheat in food. I laughed in her face. A coworker that had the sleeve all she talk about is drinking. She did four wks out and was bragging that she didn't get sick. I pray she don't get addicted. Are you honestly having issues with addiction to something? If so, we are here to talk if you need to.

The heavy people will be lined up waiting for their injections! It never ceases to amaze me how much research is being done and yet the heavy people are still heavy. It seems like the only thing that has ever helped me is my sleeve and my ability to work it.

I do my best to listen to the TONE instead of the WORDS that are being said. A friend who says excitedly, "You are shrinking down to nothing!!" with a smile and a hug means something much differently than a "friend" who says, "You are shrinking down to nothing" with a bit of a sneer and a sideways eyeball.
I also know that I take things differently from people who I don't care much for than I do from people I love. I know I brace myself for insults from people who never have nothing nice to say and even when they do, I may hear it differently than they intend.
We can't control what other people say or do, but we can totally control how we react. I am choosing to take every word as a great compliment because I am riding high on excitement with my emerging new self and NO ONE can take that away from me.
