Hi! My name is Kristi and I just got approved for my gastric sleeve surgery. The first time I attempted weight loss surgery was August 2008, but was turned down for lack of sufficient evidence of weight history. I was devastated because I have had weight problems since I had my first child in 1998 but when I went to the Dr in 2008 seeking WLS I didn't have 5 years of physician documented weight history as requested by my insurance company at that time. So I continued with the weight battle on my own.

In June 2012 I went to see my Dr for diet pills, he said he did not prescribe diet pills. He then asked if I had ever considered WLS. I told him I had considered it 4 years early with my previous Dr but I didn't meet the qualifications. He advised that I check with my my new insurance to see if it is covered. Well come to find out my insurance didn't cover WLS, but my husband's insurance did. In October 2012 I dropped my insurance and my husband signed me up under his and my journey began!m
I went to the Bariatric seminar in November 2012. The following day I scheduled my psych eval and my first appoint at the Bariatric center. My pych eval was Jan. 31, 2013 and my first bariatric appt was scheduled for Feb. 14, 2013. For anybody wondering what happens if you fail the psych eval, I'm your girl. I passed the IQ part with flying colors, even found out I was more intelligent than I thought, however the psychiatric part revealed how depressed I was and that I was on the verge of suicide. When I went to my bariatric appt Feb. 14 I was advised that I needed to undergo counseling for at least 6 months before I could be considered for surgery. Once again, I was devastated. I cried the rest of the day. But was determined to see this through. I began counseling a week later, twice a month. It actually helped me a lot. At the end of May I was cleared for surgery by my psychologist. I finished my 3month weigh ins with my Dr and got cleared for surgery by him and by the Pulmonologist for my CPAP by the end of July. The Bariatric center submitted my information to the insurance August 8 and I got my approval letter August 14!!!!

Now I'm just waiting for my surgery date and am on cloud 9!!! I can't wait to get started on my new life!!
