TheNEWME! got a reaction from Cinders in I Inhale My Food... And Hardly Chew At All Any Others? How Did You Change?
Once you are sleeved... you will be forced to slow down or else... I have not yet experienced the consequences of eating too fast or too much other than a little discomfort when I'm almost past my full mark. I think getting sleeved helps you realize and understand Portion Control. Had I understood portion control before I wouldn't be where I am today.
I wish you the best of luck!!

    hi There!! WELCOME!
    Congrats on the 19lbs lost!!!
As far as Protein shakes... I would definitely suggest starting to drink them or incorporate them into your daily routine. At this point, you aren't able to get the reccomened Protein in with the way your eating. Not sure why your doctor didn't suggest or give you a plan to follow. Seems odd... are you able to contact him and ask?
I'm thinking you can possible order protein drinks online from where you are from.. not sure?
it's normal to be scared! But just believe in yourself and you won't fail! I had surgery on oct. 30th and am down 25lbs... I only lost 1 pound last week, but I'm not going to give up. I know I will lose more. Our bodies just need to adjust.
There is a lot of great information on this site... best of luck to you!

It is definitely alarming to hear that coordinators would make such scary accusations toward ANY doctor! Especially to such a senative topic such as WLS. We are already scared as it is and then to not know who to believe would be way to stressful. I thank GOD I did not see this post until now. I was sleeved with Dr. Garcia on Oct. 30th using Ready4Achange and experienced nothing but wonderful care.

What kind of drama are you experiencing??? I went with Ready4Achange and Dr. Garcia and could NOT be more happier!
I was sleeved on Oct. 30th of this year and down 24 lbs! The care I received was excellent and the cooridantors were amazing and very compassionate.

TheNEWME! reacted to HeyBigMan in Pre- And Post-Op Nutrition Plans (See Attached)
    Hi guys,
I've noticed something that bothers me a little. I've seen a number of posts from people saying their post-op diet plans are unclear; this appears to be more common among people who paid out of pocket to be sleeved in Mexico or other locations outside the US. As I understand it, they don't necessarily get the benefit of pre- and post-op counseling, nutritionist visits, etc. and are pretty much left to research things on their own. Nobody should be left to fend for themselves after a surgery like this. This site does a great job of providing support and information based on others' experiences to help fill the gaps, but I figured it couldn't hurt to have something a bit more concrete for those who need/want it.
So... I decided to help what little bit I could. Several days ago I e-mailed my nutritionist to ask for a copy of the document I received at my only required visit. I'm posting that document here for those of you who might be interested in information straight from a nutritionist on how to eat after being sleeved. I've removed her contact information so she doesn't get bombarded in case this becomes popular. Of course, a bit of Googling for post-op diets for vertical sleeve gastrectomy patients will do the trick as well if you want to see the variety of recommendations that are out there.
I suppose I should add... I'm not a doctor, nurse, nutritionist, or anything of the sort; just a patient like you. In my own research, post-op diet plans are all over the board, varying greatly from one doctor or facility to the next. My care providers seem to take a little more conservative approach than some others, and this information has worked pretty well for me so far. I hope it will for you too, but check with a qualified professional if you're unsure. If anything conflicts what with your care providers have told you, consider them to be the authority here and follow their advice.
    Hope this helps!
Edit: so naturally I posted this to the wrong forum. Any mod wanna move it to the pre- and post-op diet forum?

I feel exactly the same way... I'll be 15 days out tomorrow! So far I've only been weighing myself once a week. I do NOT plan on weighing myself daily. It is tempting, but I can't do that to myself... I would drive myself crazy!!!!
I agree on starting soft foods and wondering if that is going to change the rate of weight loss. So far I've lost 24 pounds... I am scared to see if the scale slows or doesn't even move at all now that some foods are going in.....

I was sleeved on Oct. 30th with Dr. Garcia and my experience was great! My husband and I had a room to ourselves, but then again we were the only ones on the floor for the stay. As we were leaving... Samuel our driver said he was picking up 5 more patients the next day, so with that said not sure if they will all have their own room.
Yes the hospital is small, but definitely well equipped. They may not have the MOST advanced tools of the trade.. for instance I kind of giggled a little when they took my tempreture with an old school mercury thermometer and place it in my armpit. I haven't had that done in YEARS!!! LOL
I would highly reccomend Dr. Garcia and his staff!

I too was sleeved by Dr. Garcia in Tijuana, MX on Oct. 30th 2012. My experience with everything was pretty positive!!! The Mariott Hotel is very nice and the staff that works there are VERY friendly! Arriving at the hospital, Mi Doctor, I was a little surprised at how small the hospital was, but quickly didn't care because it definitely was a hospital, was clean, and the staff was wonderful! My only negative comment is the room they put us in was the back corner room. It was large and clean and had two beds, one for me and my husband, and our own bathroom... they only thing negative about it was that the only window in the room was facing an alley which let in NO sunlight... all the other rooms had nice big windows and made the room feel more inviting. That's my only complaint.
I would highly reccomend Dr. Garcia... he took his time explaining the procedure and answered any questions we had. The other doctors and staff were very pleasant too. I guess I lucked out and was the only paitient on the floor, so I got all the attention... it was very quiet.
My recovery after the hospital was spent at the Mariott which was lovely!

I had my surgery in Tijuana, MX with Dr. Garcia and I am feeling wonderful. This was proably one of the best decisions and actions I've done for myself. My insurance does NOT cover WLS, so I had to research my options. My research led me to the decision to go the Mexico route. I had not one complication or complaint by having my surgery there. For whatever it is worth... the choice is our, and it is our personal choice.

I am 105lbs from goal and I was thinking yesterday of rewards I can give myself everytime I lose ten lbs. things like "get hair done" "diamond earrings" "iPad" are a few of the ones on my list. When I reach my ultimate goal of 140lbs I will be getting a tattoo. I love the Phoenix idea..even a butterfly to symbolize where we were and where we are. I was also thinking of having the # of lbs I lost to be written in Roman numerals under the butterfly or Phoenix. The tattoo would be on my back, to symbolize that that part of my life is behind me.

That's 17 lbs lost in two weeks!!! YAY!!!! I'm so happy I did this! Trying to get my liquids and Protein in... kind of a struggle but not too bad. I can start my Full liquid diet today, which means, Protein drinks, yogurt, cream Soups, sf popsicles, sf pudding, etc.
I made dinner for my family last night and I actually did really well with it and didn't run away crying that I couldn't eat with them LOL!! I'm also back at work, it's just a desk job, I feel good, just a little tired and the incisions are a little achy but other that I'm doing really well!!!
Just wanted to say Hi to all my "losers bench" friends!!!
