Maybe I'm weird. I really look foward to my meals (I am 5 weeks post-op) and love that I can only have a few bites and I'm done and satisfied. I have realized that food can be good even in teeny tiny portions. I feel like I savor every bite. I love coming up with new ideas or eating my old favorites (veggie chili with greek yogurt instead of sour cream and some melted cheese is probably my fav). I would love to dig into a nice salad, but that will come in time.

I'm home....3 days post op! Doing very well. I am having some sort of reaction to the dermabond glue they used on the incisions and they are big red and puffy. Not oozy at all. Took a pic and sent to the dr they said it's a reaction so I'm using benedril to combat that. Other than that I'm not in any sort of discomfort. Actually this surgery was WAY easier than the band placement or removal. I was able to sleep in my own bed first day home!! Just sipping sipping sipping....I was able to get in one Protein Drink yesterday and part of one today. I have found that warm liquids work much better than cold. Each day gets better!!!!
Oh and for any of you wondering....I did gain 5 lbs in the hospital from the IV fluids and gas they pumped into me. However as of this morning (3 days later) I have dropped all 5 plus 2 extra!!!

You are asking us to tell you if it's worth it, I think all of us post-op will resoundingly say, yes, it was worth it for us. The questions you might actually be asking yourself is Are you ready? The things you are worrying about are really minor when compared to the more energy, the better health, the longer life you might live because of the surgery, in my opinion. Also, I don't want to sound like a negative nelly, but it sounds like your worries may be hiding some deeper issues for you. Have you talked to your Psychiatrist about these fears?
For many of us, it's an 'easy' road, but there are those out there also who have suffered complications, and their journey is different, and more difficult. The truth is, eventually you will be able to eat your favorite foods again, you will be able to drink alcohol, and if you want, you can drink while you eat. The other half of that coin is our favorite foods probably contributed to how we got to where we needed surgery in the first place, alcohol is a lot of empty calories, and sadly some people find it too easy to trade their food addiction for alcoholism, and drinking while you eat fills you up faster, makes your food digest faster, so you are hungrier sooner, and can make you really uncomfortable, and possible cause you to vomit.
Having the sleeve is not like a magic pill. It doesn't make you skinny automatically, it is a great tool for encouraging you to make better choices, but if you're afraid of those better choices before you get the tool, you might not know how to use it once you get it, and that could make you more miserable. I don't think anyone can answer for you if it's worth it, because only you know yourself, but do be sure that you know yourself enough to know you are ready and can face the challenges, because this is a change for the rest of your life, it's not reversable, and yes, you will have to make sacrifices. I hope you can do some soul searching. Good luck on whatever you decide.

It is good to be reminded of my non scale victories, NSV's, search for that forum & you might get excited. I go back and forth on "seeing how good I look". Sometimes I am amazed at my shrinking size but I still look horrible at my thighs when I sit down. I have recently remembered, my thighs have always been my "trouble spot". I had literally forgot since it has been 30 years since I have been this weight.
So I have said to myself that I am going to start loving my body parts regardless, or flat out love life, be happy regardless of my thighs. I even mantra, I am grateful to have my two legs at all. I take it as far as thinking about a situation where a person went to an airs how w/ both legs, a plane crashed and the person left with one leg. I know I sound like a nut but any way I can get it in my thick skull that I am a like able, fun person with more value than my looks, I am progressing.

I think accountability is a big factor...perhaps just staying on this board and keeping us all updated with your progress and even the bumps in the road will help...in other words, we will be your monitors!

tigerbelle reacted to Sassygirl06 in Will the sleeve really help me?
I am a year and a half out. I was over 300 pounds when I started. Never thought anything could help me. I was addicted to food. Never ate because of hunger...just because I couldn't think about anything but food. It took me about six full months post op to figure out when to stop eating. I was throwing up a lot because I was stubborn and didn't want to stop eating. Needless to say, it is a very good way to stop wanting food all the time when you are throwing up. I can honestly say that food doesn't constantly haunt me anymore. I am able to function without always thinking about what's going to be my next meal! It is so freeing! I still have major restriction. I am only able to eat about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food at a sitting, depending on what the food is. I still enjoy food, but it makes me sick to think about all the food I used to shove down my throat when I see someone eating a big meal. As for my favorite foods... I can still enjoy, but some things like chocolate make me feel icky if I eat to much, so just a bite or two and I am over that craving. Good luck guys!

My surgery was Dec. 4, 2012 and I have been feeling really great for the past 3 weeks. Eating almost everything - no salad (it fast tracks to the exit) and beef is still difficult to digest. Loving my decision and I am down from a size 24 to an 18.
