I went from a size 22 to a size 14 for now ... from a size XXL on top to a size MEDIUM!
It's awesome to know your collar bones are actually real... and your ankles don't have to have a "kan" in front of it (kankle....
It does get some getting used too... but it's amazing! <3

I can totally relate! I had my band 4 yrs & hadnt touched bread, Pasta, potatoes or the like since-not even eggs would go 'down'. I had my band to vsg revision surgery a wk ago tomorrow...when I woke up-they gave me back my band-creepy-but it made me realize just what I had been dealing with...I've had no issues since my revision...never took a pain pill, not even for the 4 hr plane ride home. My Dr says I can start puréed anytime now, tho I'm a bit apprehensive...this is the longest I've gone without 'sliming, urping'...so, I'll wait a few more days & stay with the liquids. Good luck to u guys!! I already feel better havin the sleeve as opposed to the band.

I'm doing great!!! no nausea or anything, getting all my Water and stuff. Pre op diet is just 3 days yogurt and water. I didn't lose anything pre op LOL I had a great experience with Dr Ponce and Trish! if you haven't already check out my pics in the link in my signature, it really helped me to feel more comfortable after seeing a couple other people's photos on here

I agree 100% about the wild variation in post op diets!!!!! my doc's diet says Clear Liquids for 10 days then full liquids for another 10. I am 6 days post op. I've been getting in lots of Water, broth, and sugar free popsicles. I also had some SF Jello but took really small bites and chewed the crap out of it LOL I also am tired of liquids hahaha the other 2 girls that had surgery with me in Mexico the same day went to 2 other doctors and have 2 completely different post op diets. One's says she has to do Clear Liquids for only 3 days then "home soft diet".
After talking to LOTS of people on here and other forums and reading LOTS of other doctor's diet plans I decided to add in some Protein shakes yesterday. It really helped me with energy levels and today I feel basically normal. The only way I can tell I had surgery is because I'm not hungry LOL 3 of my very good "in person" friends all had to be able to tolerate a small amount of Protein shake before they could even leave the hospital! Basically I'm sticking with clear liquids and Protein Shakes for now and taking it VERY slow.. but I'm also very interested in what other people's doctors are saying.
Something must be working though.. down 17 lbs already since surgery (blows my mind!)

Hey guys. My surgery was Sept. 11, so I am post op day 8. My program has us stay 2 nights in the hospital, and we are progressed to full liquids by the time we leave the hospital.
I went home with tylenol with codeine, but it didn't do too much for me. I last took pain meds on day 5. I am still very sore on the largest incision (under my left breast, where they remove the stomach), but it is more pain in the muscle, not the cut itself. I'm not allowed to engage my abs for 4 weeks (3 to go), or lift more than 15 lbs. Getting out of bed, or off the couch, has been very difficult, and I'm sure I've strained the muscle somewhat. What I ended up getting for the couch was one of those pillow chairs. It's a great support for my back, and reduces the distance when getting up. Like some of you, I have been having back pain. However, it is only on the left side, and I can tell it is from the muscle compensating for the weakness in my abs.
Now... about the food. It's been a ROUGH several days. I was on the Bariatric Advantage shakes pre op. I started adding them to my diet 4 weeks pre op. 2 weeks pre op I was only "eating" the shakes, sugar free Jello, broth (for a few days then it just made me want to puke), and string cheese. Now, I can't even finish one because I am just so OVER them. The Protein supplement I got to add into my Soups was GROSS. It didn't mix into my Soups, so it just was a hassle. I haven't been getting all my Protein in, I know for a fact. But, today I found a supplement that I am picking up tomorrow from The Nutrition Shop next to my house. The guy made me a sample. It's smooth as Water, mixes SUPER well, only needs to be made with about 6 oz of Water, and contains 32 gm of protein.
The soups... I went without salt and carbs for so long pre op, that I think my body is in a little shock. I love cream of potato, but didn't want to live on it alone because of the carbs. So, I have gotten regular soups and have just strained out the broth. Way better than just chicken or beef broth. Also... Last night was bad. I made instant mashed potatoes and made em soupy with beef brother. SUPER AMAZING. But I can't do that any more because it's feeding my head hunger and not my nutritional needs.
I've found it hard MENTALLY more than anything. I've never been at a decent weight (in my mind), so it's hard to imagine that this is actually going to work. I was super motivated before. Now that my friends have gone home and aren't here to help me, it's harder.
But I guess this is where we separate the old us from the new us, huh?
Today has been better... more walking, and doing stuff around the house. I'm also going to be off work for 5 more weeks.

I had my band placed 9/4/08...lost close to 90 lbs, but ALWAYS had issues & discomfort. Within the last yr & 1/2, the dreaded weight is back-I've grown tired of always havin to sit near a bathroom when I go out to eat for fear that @ any given moment during a meal-I may hurl what looks like a baby jellyfish outta my mouth...I will have my revision to a sleeve on the 14th-a few more days...I cannot wait!! I will lose that 90 again & this time-it won't find it's way back

Sleeved on the 5th, I'm going to be seeing my doctor tomorrow and hopefully starting full liquids instead of just Clear Liquids. I can't wait. I have had some hunger pains but they were easy to ignore. I had some gas pains too, they weren't so easy to ignore. Also they were very noisy. I got tired of bouillon, so I made chicken noodle Soup and strained it so I just had the broth left. It tasted much better than bouillon.
I'm still taking pain meds a few times a day, it's getting easier to get the liquids down, and the shakes with Water are better. I still feel everything I swallow going down my esophagus, hoping that will change eventually. Walking hasn't been a problem, moving around in general hasn't been a problem either.
Good luck to all of you yet-to-be sleevers. Keep us posted on your progress!

Not to brag but i had my surgery on 9/5 and it doesn't even feel like i had surgery. I do have one incision site that is sore but otherwise i am fine. I have no issues getting in all my fluids and Protein and i have not been hungry once! Its a weird feeling. I am so happy that I have had no complications and everything is looking good. I add in yogurt to my diet on Wednesday and I cant wait to try something different. I wish everyone who has had the procedure in September so far and those still waiting good luck and i wish you no complications!

Tuesday will be one month post op for me and I have not had one single regret. NOT ONE. Woke up from surgery with some nausea, but the nurses were great and got it under control. Had no pain (RNs gave me pain meds) and I was up walking a few hours after surgery. I was discharged less than 24 hours later and honestly felt great. The only complaint I had was some gas pains and my belly was swollen from the gas. That took a few days to stop. I was able to sleep on my side immediately. I prefer my belly and found that with pillows, I could even do that after a day or two. I equate the belly pain with the soreness I would feel if I had done a lot of sit ups. Totally bearable. I only took the pain meds at night.
I did have an issue the first few days with drinking. I wanted to take big gulps, but could only take tiny sips. I also hiccuped and burped a lot during this time. My MD and NUT had warned me about all of this. Every week, drinking is easier and easier. I was encourage to start working out immediately, but not at high intensity. Treadmill was good for me. Plus you need to walk, walk, walk after surgery. Prevents clots and pneumonia and helps get rid of the gas.
You could go to the gym and count calories and lose weight that way. For me, losing weight was never an issue. Keeping it OFF was my issue. No one I ever spoke to told me this was a magic bullet. My doctor and his staff were very honest and explained it is only a tool that needs to be used with healthy eating and exercise. The weight has fallen off of me so far. I lost 16 before surgery and have lost 41 total at less than 4 weeks out. I feel better than I have in YEARS. I am down a few sizes.
It is a personal decision whether to have surgery, but please know there are many who have no regrets. I think sometimes unhappy folks (unhappy with the surgery I mean) post more than others. It's a good place to come for support.
Good luck with what you decide.
