Will I be normal?
Just take it day by day and pretty soon you will discover how much better you feel and how you have adapted to the new normal you! I had VSG 5 months ago and I remember how you are feeling but I promise, it didnt last. Yes there are things you have to get used to, like eating slowly, only eating a little while others finish their plates but you do get used to it and it really isnt a big deal. Just be patient and soon this, just like all those pounds, will be a memory. Keep your chin up!

What comfort items did you take to surgery?
I brought my ipad and phone but didnt really use either except for a little bit right after surgery. I did bring some gas x strips, they helped alot!!! I also brought some biotene dry mouth spray, it helped alot when I wasnt allowed to drink anything at all. I did not bring a pillow but my husband brought me a stuffed animal that I used to put pressure on my stomach when I needed to get up etc. Hope your surgery goes well!

Let the liver shrinking begin
You guys can do it! It is hard! But know that this is just temporary. Try to find other things to do when your family is eating something that you cant have. Also, do lots of research during this phase and remind yourself of why you are doing it. Something else you need to do during this time is take pictures of yourself and measurements. Every time you think of cheating on the diet, look at the pictures and imagine yourself in one month, two months...etc. It will make a difference. Yes the pre-op diet it not fun at all but you CAN DO IT! Good luck and blessings!

Same 3 pounds what the heck!
Just be patient. The weight is going to come off. You have already lost 31 pounds!!!! Since the end of January! Your body is probably trying to figure out what the heck is going on. Just take a deep breath and try to keep your mind on something else. Just be patient. Good luck!

OMG did I really used to eat that much?
I noticed that over the Christmas holidays. It is hard not to say something. But I am so much more aware of the mindless eating that people do as well, that I used to do! It is good to realize that it isnt good for you. Maybe my new habits will wear off on those around me....doubt it but I can hope!

Gained 2 pounds?
Dont freak out. This is very normal. Take a deep breath and realize that this is part of the process and although it doesnt make sense, our bodies are doing what it thinks it needs to do. keep doing what your NUT tells you and you should see that weight gone before you know it.

IV complication
Hope it feels better soon. Good idea to talk to the surgeon at least by phone. It might be worth the trip if he can help it feel better.

Letter to insurance company
Hey I had to do this with my emloyer first before I had to do it with the insurance. I just documented the times I was on weight watchers, when I tried the atkins diet, south beach diet, diet pills, exercise and nutritionist. I was pretty thorough telling how much weight I lost and how long I stayed on the diets and then how my weight raised again. Hope this helps.

Post-op Liquid diet
I agree with Laura. If the Nutritionist gives you the go-ahead then it is better for you nutritionally to move on and get your tummy used to more solid foods. You will still lose weight, don't worry. Just follow the NUTs advice and you will do fine!

APPROVED!

what crystal light style products have no after taste?
I like the Mio flavors. I think that they have a smoother taste than crystal light (and you can use as much or as little as you want since it is in drops) Hope you find something you like!

big scar
My surgeon said the same thing but after my pre-op diet my liver had shrunken enough so he didnt have to cut me open. I was happy about that. Just follow the preop diet and you should be fine. good luck!

Finally have a surgery date and im petrified!
Well i cant relate to some of the things that you said but I do know that I went through a period of being really anxious about the fact I was having the surgery and wanting to make sure that i was making the right decision. I think it is only normal for you to be concerned. I do know that no matter what, that this has been the best decision of my life for myself. I am healthier now than I have been in a LONG time and happier too because I feel like I am finally in control. Hope things clear up for you soon. Soon it will all be a memory! Keep us posted.

Mental Changes/depression/mood swings post surgery
Hey there! I am 5 months out and can honestly say that I have not really experienced any major mood swings. I think I went into surgery well informed and when I did begin to freak out a little before or after my surgery, I wasn't afraid to call or email my Surgeon, Family Dr or my nutritionist. I have lots of people that I can talk to about my struggles and victories, some have had this surgery, some have not, some have had problems with their weight, some have not. I went in knowing that I will have times during my journey where the scale will stop moving and that during that time that I just need to be patient and not freak out because it will come. I also started looking at the reasons for my overeating and trying to come up with a plan to deal with it since I am an emotional eater. Now it isnt easy all the time but I feel like I was as prepared as I could possibly be and I am doing my best to take care of my sleeve and help it help me. Realizing that sweets and breads were never my friends although I loved them. Actually I think my mood has improved with my better health, with wonderful comments from everyone and just with a whole lot less to carry around. Hope things go well for you! Keep us informed

Yeah, where can you get these? Sounds like a fantastic snack!
