so, today, I had my post op cardiologist check up. He told me that this surgery saved my life! Also, he said I could cut both of my bp meds in half for the next 2 weeks, then QUIT TAKING THEM ALTOGETHER!!! woohoo! And he said to do a blood test Saturday, and if I checks out, I can drop the cholesterol meds too! I'm officially doin the happy dance. ( | ) ( / ) ( | ) ( \ ) ( | ) shake it with me! Only 4 months out, and off all my meds! Only thing left is the stupid cpap, and I've got a feeling that it'll be gone by the end of the year! Oh yeah, go sleeve, oh yeah! Sorry, but, this has been a great day!

I've tried to tell my aunt that. She wants to make this fancy broths, Soups, etc. I'm like I have to keep it simple or I'm gonna pay dearly for it. I need to heal. If what I'm putting in postoperatively is healthy...it's gonna be delicious to me.

I've been on the fence about this too. I haven't really told anyone other than family and my boss. I think the "what if I fail" thoughts and judgmental comments have kept me from telling friends, but I feel like once I am successful in losing weight I will be way more open about having the surgery!
I wish you all good luck on your weight loss journey!

This is a very good question and one I put a lot of thought into, pre-op and now post-op as well.
I chose to tell noone one at work. Just said I was going on vaca. I work with a lot of mean women. Of my 12 coworkers only one is a man. I probably don't have to tell you how bad it can get when anyone works with a bunch of women. The mean ones get the others going. It's sad actually. I just felt it was right. Maybe a bit ashamed I can't do it on my own. I went so far as to block ANYONE I know from my office building from seeing posts on my FB wall. So I had made my decision on the subject and that was that.
Well, postop (16days) its a completely different story. About a week ago it just came over me how proud I am of myself and my choice to do this. I go back to work tomorrow. I am not telling the world about it but if someone asks, I will tell them. Shoot, all I have to do is tell one woman and the whole office will know. And I am fine with it. I am proud of this choice. I live in my body and I am going to be more comfortable and healthy in it because of the decision I made to take control of a bit of my destiny.
This is not the easy way out, we all know this. Anyone who says so is just ignorant. Ignorant of the whole process. My family has come around. They have seen and witnessed my journey so far. They were skeptical at first but now see how much healthier I am going to be.
It's a completely personal decision only you can make. And don't be surprised if what you THINK you have decided preop changes postop.
You will be proud of yourself too. You just wait and see!!
Best of luck to you. Prayers for a successful procedure and painfree, quick recovery!

I was sleeved on the 28th and had a hysterectomy at the same time. I can honestly say I have had zero pain, just a little discomfort. The drain was NOT comfy and I had a little stiffness. Now my incisions are itchy as the steri strips come off but that is it. I went to the fair yesterday and my friends say I look "bright". Now, let me tell you, having pizza in the house was freaking torture! So, i scraped some of the toppings into plain mash potatoes, added some Water and pureed it. Added unflavored Protein Powder and got my fix. I don't like artificial sweeteners so if i have pudding I honestly just have regular. Oh, and freshly juiced PLUM juice is better then ANY Dr. Pepper i ever had. And I was an addict. I think us end of September people are pretty blessed!

Thank you soooo much for your support and encouragement. It truly means a lot to me, I have a lot of negative people in my life which I am assuming will change when/if I do go through with the surgery, I have heard of many people whose friends turned out not to truly be their friends but in fact their frenemies, or significant others whom just couldn't handle the new and improved partner. It's a breath of fresh air to come on here and actually be supported and encouraged no matter what decision I make!

Thanks guys...I am listening to ALL of you At 4:45pm I called my doc's office back and admitted to them I am scared and my fear was the reason I canceled. IDK if this is a "sign" of any kind BUT the receptionist totally understood and said that my appointment time was still available if I wanted to re-book it.....so I did. Tomorrow at 9am I will be going in to talk with the surgeon about all of this and letting her know all of my fears. The last surgery I had was just this past April, I had to have my ankle re-fused because it didn't heal right the first time. When I woke up in recovery my heart started to race on me and my nurse kinda scared me with the panic I could hear in her voice (she was yelling to the others "This one is going tachy! Mine is going tachy on me!" I kept asking her who was going tachy, if it was me? Finally she told me "Yes, you." so I bared down and took a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds and released it and my heart rate came back down to normal before she ever had the chance to get me any sort of meds. Not sure if that was just like that I came back to normal on my own or what but it freaked me out pretty good. Later I asked the doc about it and he said no one had mentioned it to him but that maybe I was just having a slight reaction to one of the anesthesia drugs? He wasn't completely sure what could have caused it....but this was orthopedics not GI).

I am just in the beginning of this phase. Went out to eat with a few friends and they were like "You look amazing" Now remind you I have only lost 40 some pounds at this time, I simply say thanks or thank you. and after I get back home my mood turns more sour. I asked my husband was I really that horrid before hand. I know people are just being nice and trying to pay you a compliment and encourage you etc, but sometimes it can inadvertently make us feel ashamed, embarrassed etc.

I've lost 125 pounds and I feel great inside and out but even at my heaviest I didn't feel ugly. I'm a hairdresser so I see people all day long and I'm getting tired of hearing how pretty and cute I am now. Was I not pretty and cute when I was fat! it's just starting to offend me, maybe I'm just emotional this week or something. Anybody else feel this way too?

You all can do this!! We are doing it together!! I am on 3rd wk postop and have had my challenges but it gets better. The KEY is 60-80 oz of Fluid and approx 80g of Protein. liquid multi Vitamins from Walgreens (the complete & keep it chilled) 2x a day will help too.
For preops, I was tired too preop, like a drained feeling. Postop its a different kinda tired. In the beginning, the healing process drains you in a different way. The crucial aspect first and foremost is hydration!!! Focus on your fluids. When you are doing well with that then incorporate the Protein goal. Dehydration can show as nausea, so whatever you have to do, get in the fluids. Use Water, Crystal Light in your Water, broth.. whatever it takes.
You all can do this!!! Hang in there... It DOES get better...

My runs started with walking but I was around 265 when started trying to put together some motion that resembled running. This went well for a while until I started to bonk on my runs. PdxMan pointed out that my nutrition/diet had no carbs in it so I started adding them back in. That's been doing the trick. I just finished the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 100 degree weather a few weeks ago and then came back a week later with PR in a half marathon. Thanks, PDxMan, btw!

I did it. I ran the Plano Balloon Festival 5K this morning and accomplished both of my goals. I ran the whole thing without stopping to walk (goal number 1), and I finished it in under 35 minutes (goal number 2). My official time was 34:27:55 and I came in 299 out of 1000 runners. My average speed was 5.5 mph.
