You definitely need 2 nights in the hospital after surgery. I went back to work in a week, but I was able to go home early every day to rest. Hubby and i own our own small business. This surgery zaps your strength because you are not eating enough to keep your energy up.

i am currently 5 months post op. i have experienced 3 stalls. the first lasted 1 week, the second lasted 2 weeks, and the one that finally broke, lasted 3 stupid weeks. i have learned a few things about stalls.
    1) we all experience them at some point
    2) they suck
    3) typically, when i stall, my body is doing other things. like. losing inches. (totally don't understand that one but, hey, i'll take it)
    4) when it finally breaks, i start losing again, so, i've learned to trust the program to do what it should
    5) they suck
    6) they don't last forever
    and finally 7) they suck
so, be of good cheer! this too shall pass!
    good luck

I have not read all the responses but wanted to chime in on your post.....Keep this in mind....most of the people that are on here are trying to get to their first goal of 191, as that would put them in WONDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!! The fact that you were smaller than most probably has EVERYTHING to do with why you have "failed" Remember - all you see is a number, in most cases you don't have a start weight/height. Too soon to say you failed - keep at it and before you know it you will be reading your post months from now and laughing!

So here's a reality check......You "only lost 15lbs." Your clothes are falling off...... What is the truth here? I believe it's time for you to throw your scale away, or hide it. You are obsessing over a stupid scale and the numbers on it. You have lost so much weight that your clothes are falling off! That to me is success......An NSV as we call it...... I'd rather have my clothes fall off than worry about the numbers. You are doing great....... The #'s on the scale will go down and you are going to be so pleased with yourself.
Yes, you are depressed and it would be highly beneficial to see your doctor and perhaps he can prescribe something to help you with the depression. Not a big deal..... Hang in there and rant away when ever you need to. We are here to help you.

8% of your body weight in a month and a half doesn't sound like a failure to me. Hang in and stay the course. Vent when you need and try not to compare your loss to others.
    Good luck!!

Wow. No way could I do only 3 meals a day. I can't eat enough to stay full that long! My NUT says to keep my body fueled so it burns off stored fat.
My son was interested in a career in Nutrition. He lasted one year before switching his major. He said it was a field full of inconsistencies and some really far fetched ideologies with teachers recommending contradictory lessons. I didn't really believe him....after being sleeved and all these diff meal plans, I sure do now!!

This could be caused by acid in your stomach. Acid mimicks hunger in our stomachs. This is probably a good time to contact your surgeon and ask about taking a PPI (prilosec, omeprazole, tagamet, nexium). I was having this trouble in the beginning and I started reading all the posts about taking a PPI and so I started taking omeprazole. It did wonders for me. My hunger subsided too. Best of luck and hopes this helps.

tums sugar free are really good for that - also be sure to work out whether or not it is head hunger...are you getting back into old routines, old "triggers"
read The Power of Habit by Dughill...if at all possible to follow any advice I give here, read this book, read it again, and then go through and make notes...it is an invaluable aid, a life tool, in my opinon.

Surprised here too. Maybe no one else will say it but I think it discredits the seriousness of our plight and reduces it to a quik fix. 30 pounds really? SMH

I'm not "coming down" on anyone and I resent you insinuating otherwise. I am merely shocked that any physician worth his or her salt would perform such a drastic weight loss procedure on a person needing to lose only 34 pounds.
I simply asked a question. It's quite possibly a typo.

I don't think we're coming down on her. I think we're a little incredulous that 1) a doctor would perform this surgery on someone that clearly doesn't meet the typical BMI/Obesity guidelines and 2) that someone with only 34 pounds to lose would chose to do so this way. Can't deny that this surgery is a pretty extreme measure to lose 34 pounds.
I'm not being critical of her - just surprised at her choice.

I don't think it is everyone coming down on someone necessarily. It is shock and surprise. Is being overweight, even slightly a medical problem or is it a beauty issue? We spend a lot of time in this forum discussing health-related issues, feeling better, overcoming challenges, etc. I don't think we have seen anyone who (based on their nickname and lower weight) "appears" to be all about physical appearance. I may be wrong. We are just very surprised based on our frames of understanding.

Hello I had my surgery oct 5th I'm feeling good walking and sipping. I got my period in the hospital so I am having some cramping from that. I came home after 2 days in the hospital. I haven't had no pain meds in 2 days. I have had GasX! I'm staying away from the scales because its to soon. I know I'm still full of iv fluids and gas so I will weigh on Friday which will be 1 week. God Bless u all!

I'm 5 weeks out and only down 18. I promised myself u wouldn't be one of those folks that bemoans my slow weightloss, but it's getting hard to stay positive. I try not to compare myself to anyone else, but it's hard. At least I'm not gaining, right?
