Vsg 4 weeks out and struggling

How much Protein & Water are you getting in? Your body is still in a bit of shock, but if you are doing what your NUT recommended, you should start losing steady. Are you getting enough walking in? Whenever I was stalled, I always asked myself it I'm doing everything I should be. Almost always, I could be more diligent. Are you tracking all your food and water with an app like MyFitnessPal? That helped me so much the first year, and still (though I will admit I have been bad with it lately) Are you are still in the Puree stage? As far as support, it is hard for anyone who has not lived through this to truly understand, especially the emotional factor so many of us have and still struggle with. Search the boards, almost every topic imaginable has been covered, you just have to look. Best of luck to you!!

    vitamin D & iron deficiency

No, didnt' effect surgery at all. They tell you that much to build you up. Vitamin D takes time to store, once your level goes up, you'll be taking less. Ask them specifically what kind D or D3. Just so you are getting exactly what you need. It amazes me how many things Vitamin D effects. Google it when you get a chance. Good luck!

    Pinch on my insides

When was your surgery? If it was recent it could be internal stitches pulling a bit.

    vitamin D & iron deficiency

I had both, It was not hard at all to maintain after surgery and as I lost the weight, my Vitamin D leveled out. My Iron took a little longer, but I was always Iron deficeint. I always take a Multivitamin and get my bloodwork monitored every 3 ,months.

No pre-op diet. Is that common?

You will get a ton of different answers on this, none are wrong. There are many reasons some are on very strict pre-op diets. I did 2 shakes and one high Protein, low carb meal a day the two weeks before surgery. More than anything, it got me used to the shakes and kind of detoxed me off carbs prior to surgery. Best of luck!!!

    Help

Also remember that you are still swollen and numb inside and might feel more of a restriction in a week or so, how fast did you drink it?

    Hello Everyone - silly question

I had a catheder, but it was put in after I was sedated and taken out the next morning before i was discharged. I sooooooo did not want one, but it did not bother me at all and saved me from having to get up in the middle of the night.

    VETS - packing list help?

I packed all the same items, and never used the PJs or gown, I stayed in my hospital gown the whole time. The only other thing I brought was an extension cord for my chargers. Other than that, I found I didnt need much. Good luck with your surgery!!
  12. Work place chatter is always hard. If you don't share it with anyone, it should be kept quiet. Your managers are not allowed to ask about procedures etc. If it is your time to take off, then your privacy should remain in tact. I am 16 months out, and though I haven't had any foods I can't tolerate, there are foods I avoid. Trigger foods for me. chips, etc. go down way too easy, and regardless of our restriction, you can eat around your sleeve if you choose to. It's not a cure all. Just a tool, we have to do our part to be as successful as we can be. I enjoy an occasional drink, but I didn't for a while. I'm not going to be a hypocrite and tell you not to drink, just giving my experience and how I proceeded. Aside from the empty calories, our bodies will burn the alcohol first before fat. And I have noticed the alcohol now has a much quicker effect on me. I avoid drinking sepcifically in "tailgate" situations because I don't want to make bad choices worse if I'm not on my game. Everyone is different and everyone's triggers are different. You have to manage your choices and do what is best for you. I do have days where I am not as strict, but I track it all and account for it. All that being said, one day is not going to ruin anyone's progress overall. I specifically had this procedure becuase I didn't want to diet for the rest of my life anymore. I wanted to have things in moderation and get my eating and choices under control. When I have party or social situations, I bring a dish I can enjoy. There are tons of healitier choices out there. No reason you can't enjoy your social gatherings as much as ever. food doens't have to be the focus. I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back at work Monday. I'm in an office situation so no lifiting required. Best of luck to you!! Great progress so far!

will I ever get to one-derland?

It is hard to come to a stall, but it happens. Give your body a chance to catch up and you'll start up again. Stick to the basics, make sure you're getting all your Water and Protein in, and follow the plan. The scale will start moving. If not, talk to your nut about increasing/decreasing calories to stimulate the loss again. Great progress!! Good luck!

    Stall is depressing me :-(

You didn't go through all this for nothing. It is very common to have a stall at this point. Your body is adjusting to major surgery. Stay the course, it will start moving again. Stick to the baics, get all your Water & Protein in and walk as much as you can. If you're not getting in what you should, work on that. We can't expect the scale to move if we're not doing what we are supposed to. Good luck and congratulations on your successful surgery!

    MAJOR regrets

Hi Morgan, I'm so sorry to hear you have been struggling. I think it's important for people contemplating surgery to hear everyone's experiences. So vent away. I When I was first out of surgery warm liquids went down much easier than cold, unjury makes a Protein rich chicken Soup that was a godsend the first few weeks. Also try different fluids, Water too was harder for me to get down, but Vitamin Water Zero, no problem. Even if you have to suck on sugar free ice pops, you need your fluids. Best of luck, we only know if someone is struggling if they post. So never fear backlash for giving your honest experience.
