  1. So, I was sleeved on 10/22/12... I have been working really really hard, but last time I saw my surgeon (Dec 18) he said I wasn't losing fast enough... My starting weight was 255, and my reward goal is reaching ONEderland...I plan to buy a fitbit. So, I re-doubled my efforts...get in my Protein, eat very low carbs, and excercise on the treadmill for 45 min. EVERY day. I only weigh on Monday mornings, as not to get too discouraged...last Monday, I was 208.9... this morning I get on the scale (scale is at the same place on the floor, wearing undies only, right after my shower) and the scale said... 197.8. I almost fainted. I stepped off, let the scale reset to 00.0, and stepped on again. (I always do this)... 197.8. I run back to my phone so that I can log in my weigh in Lose It... Then I think - I should take a PICTURE of the scale! I return to the bathroom, ditch the robe, step on the scale and... 208.3. WTF!!?? I let the scale reset to 00.0 again and step gingerly on... 208.3. No matter what I do, it doesn't budge. I am sooooooo bummed... I told my husband, it was like getting a lottery scratch off and having it say you won $100,000... then, have the decimal point move and you actually won $10.00. I will buy new batteries for my scale this evening... but now I feel as though maybe it is been wrong all along!? I am trying not to make it a big deal...but it really really is.
  2. Yes, "perfectly fine to discomfort in just ONE SMALL BITE". Ugh. Yes, it will take some time, but I am getting better.
  3. For me, it's not just thick spit... it is actual regurgitation - but what I am puking is of a slime like consistency...not like actual chunks of what I ate (sorry to be so graphic)
  4. Isopure Alpine punch is the only protein I can tolerate now... I did Premier Protein shakes for pre and post op, and now am totally SICK of all of those sickeningly sweet shakes... I do Isopure over ice with a wedge of lime in my glass... sometimes when I am feeling froggy, I chill it in a martini shaker and serve it in a martini glass!
  5. Wow. This is eye opening. I assumed as I hadn't lost any hair yet that I wouldn't... I guess I am still too early. Fortunately, I wear my hair very short (like Jamie Lee Curtis) so hopefully, it will be easy to conceal if I start losing. :-(
  6. How far post op are you? I am 10 weeks, and haven't experienced any hair loss yet... I would think with eating your protein and taking your vitamins, you are covering all of your bases!
  7. You know what? *I* would think that once would be enough too! Geez, I am hard headed... but like abetterme4.2 said, at least I am not re-eating like my dog would! ;oP
  8. I "slimed" again today. I only do it when I eat too fast. 10 weeks post op, I can't believe I am still doing this! I have gotten very good about measuring the AMOUNT I can eat... But it seems like - especially when distracted like at work - I can easily just ... eat... and before I know it, I have this pain in my chest that is only relieved by regurgitating SLIME. I assume I am sliming because I am not throwing up what I ate - just...well, SLIME. I feel dirty and ashamed afterwards. You know how a dog will hurk up his dinner and then look at you all embarassed? (before re-eating it) How long before I get this under control? I feel like I am learning - I only THROW UP after eating one bite too many... and have gotten much better about avoiding that...but if I eat too fast, I slime. I have read some posters have NEVER thrown up... I guess I should feel lucky I never got dumping syndrome - that sounds awful.
  9. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing it up. Yes, I like others have become accustomed to re-heating my food...or eating it room temp. If I eat too fast, I get sick.
  10. What I found really difficult was my surgeon and nutritionist ALWAYS conflicted each other and knew it! The NUT would say in my meetings with her, "He'll tell you to do this, but don't..." The surgeon would say, "Nutritionists are idiots...they don't know what they are talking about... do what I say..." My surgeon had absolutely NO respect for the NUTS and would say, "Whatever they gave you (handouts, etc) throw it away!" The entire experience left me very confused and frustrated.
  11. You lost 78 lbs since 10/22!!? Wow, that is my surgery date too - 10/22/12 but am only around 40... What is your secret?
  12. I have been wearing a regular pedometer daily since surgery, and I do 45 min daily on the treadmill... Are the extra things the Fitbit does worth $99? Apparently, it tracks sleep and does charts and stuff? If you have one, do you love it?
  13. Mullers Greek yogurt - with the corner filled with fruit is wonderful... I only have it once or twice a week tho because of the carbs...
  14. This article was so helpful! Thank you for posting it!
  15. I am confused... You seem to be wondering WHY you can't eat as much as before? Isnt that the point of the sleeve? Post op, most everyone must eat slowly and chew carefully... Did you not receive any post op instructions from your doctor or NUT?
  16. "Are people really lacking that much basic common sense..." Sorry, but that was in your original post...
  17. Dunno, but I just went online and ordered a sampler of 11 flavors... Hopefully I will like some of them.
  18. I get a burrito bowl at Chipotle with grilled chicken, salsa and cheese. I skip the beans and rice bc I am supposed to limit carbs... I tried onions and peppers (which I used to love) but my sleeve did not like it... I can get 3-4 meals out of one burrito bowl...
  19. I eat cheese sticks and almonds... I need a good portable snack with protein and little to no carbs... Anyone? Bueller?
  20. "I completely sympathize with folks who start threads looking for help because they're craving something. That's not what this is about. What I'm having difficulty understanding is this; why do people seek approval from what are basically complete strangers to violate their doctor's directives, when they know it's not in their best interest? It just doesn't make sense to me." Most of us are here because we have had - or are having vertical sleeves... but if you read the posts, you will know that doctors directives about these sleeves are as varied as the sands in the ocean. Some will say they have strict two week pre op all liquid diets... some are allowed Protein based foods during the liquid phase...some don't have ANY kind of pre op diet! Some are on liquids after surgery...some are on "mushies" (I wasn't)...some are allowed to eat any soft food as early as two weeks after surgery... some - like me - are not allowed ANY carbs - mashed potatoes, rice, Beans - even after 11 weeks after surgery... Yet, most of the people *are* losing weight... I think we (at least *I*) come here to compare ideas - to see what plan others are following...and whether or not it works... Yes, it's hard to know that I can't have ANY carbs... but then, when I fell and had a Wendy's Chili - I knew it wasn't the end of the world because I also knew that so many other folks had successfully - with their doctors blessing - had a few black beans and it didn't "kill" them or disrupt their weight loss... Doctors are different and have different plans...Some have shared their caloric intake, which I found helpful, because my doctor will not give me caloric guidelines (and the OCD in me NEEDS guidelines)...all he will say is have x amount of protein and no more than y amount of carbs - ... so it's not that we (I) and taking the advice of total strangers over my doctor, but it is nice to have someone with whom I can ask questions and get advice and take an average... my doc does NOT answer questions... I have posted earlier that he is very much like Dr. Gregory House - a brilliant surgeon, but a bit of a d**k. Some have docs who are overseas and not accessible... So, it is nice that - yes - total strangers - will share what worked for THEM to give help into making all the pieces fit. If I meet someone who had surgery on the same date as me, and they have lost 20lbs more than I have, I appreciate reading what worked for them...it may not work for me, but it *might*...
