  1. I had the surgery fall 2012... The first year was great... The end of the second year, I have gained 18lbs and went through menopause... I am wondering if this is common... I still average about 1300 calories a day, but cannot seem to shake this weight gain... On 1/15, I started doing the 5:2 Intermittent Fast Diet... One week out, I am finally down 3.6lbs... I am committed to doing this 5:2 plan for at least a month to see if this gives me the results I need... I have read that a weight gain after menopause is not uncommon, but I thought 18lbs was quite a bit for one year. ????
  2. You can do this. One question though - what area Kaiser are you a member of? California, Ohio, Mid-Atlantic? I ask because I am in the Mid-Atlantic and there is definitely a weight list for the surgery. So, once I got my approval from the board, there was about a 6 month wait before being scheduled for surgery. I just realized I spelled it the first time "weight", which I guess is also true. I am a Kaiser patient...I had my surgery October 2012 and at almost 6 mos out, am down 75lbs. It really does work - BUT - it is also a lot of work. I work out EVERY day, which I never did before...And, I still track everything I eat. Good luck!
  3. Completely! Some days I almost "forget" I was sleeved and seem totally normal...Other days, EVERYTHING - even tried and true foods disagree with me. Those are the days I get depressed and moody. "I can't even eat an egg! I hate this stupid sleeve!"
  4. how long ago were you sleeved?
  5. This was a good post for me to read... I am a carboholic - breads, pasta and french fries... I get sleeved on MOnday and really hope that I lose my desire for carbs... I *think*. I don't know if it would be better to keep my desire and lose the ability to eat, or just lose the taste for it... I think it would be safer if I just didn't like warm bread and butter anymore...
  6. When did you get sleeved? Have you talked to your doctor about this?
  7. Wow! That's great! What was your surgery date? I can't wait to have mine in October..
  8. I have been approved for sleeve surgery by my insurance plan, and met with my surgeon in May. Now comes the long, long wait. My insurance plan has only one surgeon on staff in my area that does this surgery, so there is a bottle neck and a long wait list...It has been 4 months...I have been told the wait COULD be 7 months! I feel like I am getting discouraged and bounce between, "now is the time to start making good habits" to "I will NEVER get surgery, it's hopeless..." to "well, I'd better eat all the {fill in the blank} I can, because after surgery I won't be able to..." Last night I actually dreamt I had the surgery...except in my dream, it was an outpatient procedure...and they released me into the street still wearing a surgical gown with open wounds. I had to go to urgent care because they forgot to give me any pain meds. I was sitting there in the waiting room, trying not to bleed on the nice sofas. I feel like my life is on hold - I don't want to make any plans for the fall because I keep thinking I will get a surgery date...but as every day goes by with no phone call, I get more and more depressed. Any suggestions to pull myself out of this rut? Any suggestions or a virtual kick-in-the-butt are appreciated!
  9. BEAUTIFUL ring. I am so happy for you. I am still PRE op, but I am hoping to have NSVs of my own to share one day! Congratulations!
  10. I am still PRE op, so I cannot speak from experience, but I thought you were SUPPOSED to feel hunger, no? At least eventually? I thought that the sleeve would make you get full faster and require less food to get full, but that you would still get hungry when it was time to eat. No?
  11. Thanks so much for posting...I wish you success on your journey... I have been approved for sleeve surgery, but am STILL on the waiting list...I get so discouraged, but when I come to this forum and read success stories like yours, I feel like WHEN it finally happens, it will be so worth it. I am anxious to join you on this journey! save me a seat!!
  12. Congratulations on getting your surgery date! You will do fine! I am anxious to hear back from you post surgery! (I am still awaiting my date)... good luck and be well!
  13. Glad you are doing well! It sounds like it was scary, but I can't wait for my date as I am still unscheduled... Good luck and continued recovery!
  14. I get that feeling... I am approved for surgery, but still on the waiting list... I thought when I began this process, that by now - July - I would have already had the surgery and there would be far 'less of me'... With summer being unbearably hot... nothing fits, and I refuse to buy more 'fat clothes'... I am trying hard NOT to give into depression and EAT. Ya know? (
  15. Hi all... I am a pre-op... I am approved and awaiting my surgery date. At first when I heard that I would be required to have only Protein Shakes for two weeks prior to surgery and three weeks afterwards - my only concern was it would be tough for the two weeks as I am sure I would be hungry and being around my family eating normal food. But I just attended a Protein Tasting hosted by another support group... it helps you to decide which protein powder/shake/meal substitute you would prefer to use. Well - I hated ALL of them! Really! I thought that it would taste like Carnation Instant Breakfast - or perhaps SlimFast - which is doable... but all of them tasted completely vile to me! How can I get through this!!???
