  1. I was surprised to find out that my 10yr old liked hummus... He also liked cauliflower with ranch dressing. I also buy cheese sticks and pretzels as semi healthy snacks.
  2. My doc says I should eat 70 grams of Protein and less than 30 grams of carbs each day. But not to worry about calories. Do you count protein grams? Carbohydrates? Calories? None of the above? Today marks my sixth week post op... I weigh myself on Mondays and today I am UP 2lbs. I am trying not to get discouraged... but it seems as though everyone does it differently... I know that last week I ate more than 30 grams of carbs a couple of days, but my caloric intake total was still around 650 calories... would this account for the weight gain?
  3. Wow, my doc says no fruit for at least six months... I miss fruit. I am almost six weeks out and only allowed eggs and fish. I cheat and have greek yogurt, hummus and low carb Soups...
  4. This? This is what makes me crazy. My nutritionist and doctor appear to be sworn mortal enemies... Each one says the other is crazy and to "ignore what he/she said"... I want to slam my head into a wall sometimes because I just cannot get a straight answer...they are supposed to be working together but their non communication/agreement is making this so much harder than it needs to be.
  5. I'm pulling up a chair to wait for the advice you get... I am five weeks post op and still struggle with those feelings...
  6. I am also five weeks out... My doc says for me to focus on getting in 70 grams of protein and no more than 30 grams of carbs... He says to not worry about caloric count, just do that... I do find, however, that I average about 650 calories daily. I am down 33 lbs total since starting my two week pre op with surgery on 10/22.
  7. I have an uber strict doctor... Only allowed protein shakes, broth, eggs and fish until 7 weeks... Today I splurged on a craving and had five well chewed almonds... My stomach accepted them happily! What a relief... I thought it would be ok as I read so many posts from others eating a huge variety only two weeks out... My doc is a real hard ass...
  8. 4 weeks post op and I use tabasco no problem.
  9. Give yourself at least a week to feel human again! Good luck.
  10. So, I am five weeks post op and not cleared for poultry... I can pretty much have fish and eggs... I brought a lobster cake to my family dinner and planned to splurge with one tablespoon mac and cheese... I ended up eating a smackeral of mac and cheese, less than a teaspoon of pineapple casserole and two cucumber slices! For some reason I had been craving cucumbers... I ate half of the lobster cake later on when everyone else was having dessert and I felt hungry again.. Bottom line... I felt completely satisfied and happy with my small splurges... I ate slowly and chewed well and had absolutely no problems or discomfort. Yay!
  11. Thank you. This is exactly what I needed to read. I feel better already! )
  12. I am five weeks post op and wondering... Will I ever be able to have just a taste of anything I want? Sign me: Seriously mourning food...
  13. The video totaaly worked for me... Those crackerd are something I did not need to know existed! They looked delicious!
  14. I am surprised... My doc has so many rules, but never mentioned gum...
  15. Sounds like you have only been out of the hospital for less than a week... Give yourself some time! You had major surgery... Can your husband cook or care for your family while you recuperate? If he cannot cook, have him get take out - you need to concentrate on getting better and getting your liquids and protein in..this too shall pass.
  16. You should not be skipping meals, but if you do, by all means subsitute with a protein shake! Even if you do not feel hungry, your body needs fuel to burn!
  17. Sounds like a plateau... Have you tried mixing up your workout routine?
  18. I am a little over three weeks post op.. Today I made 1/2 cup of soup... and STOPPED with 3 tsp left... Since being allowed soft foods, it has really been hard for me to leave 2-3 tsp in the bowl... I would eat the "serving" and realize belatedly that it was the last bite or two that caused the pain and/or vomiting. I stopped... I feel fine (weird leaving only 2-3 bites) but feel physically fine! Definitely a none scale victory!
  19. Scrambled eggs are the only thing I can CONSISTENTLY eat and stay down...last night, I had about 3 oz. of baked salmon and threw some of it up...the day before, I had tuna fish and threw that up. I am slowly learning that feeling of STOP though.
