    Where are the 50s ???

    DebInAZ: I can eat almost anything now and I do sometimes. But I really stay away from pasta, pizza, bread and the like. Once you start with carbs not only do you stop losing weight, the craving for them kicks in again. I'm at the end of this race and the weight loss is slow. Returning to the basics will get me there.

    Where are the 50s ???

    Carbs are the enemy. Don't try to figure a way to slip them back into your daily routine. At least not in the first 9 months. I'm 4 months out. Lost 70 lbs the first 3 months and 10 lbs more this month. 10 lbs more and I reach my goal. I'm not perfect... while I keep the carbs at bay I have started drinking red wine again. A glass a day but it does slow down the weight loss. I may have to stop drinking wine while this next 10 lbs comes off and go back to protein drinks, yogurt and water. Boring but it works and works fast.
  3. This is a nice video but I'm not sure it addresses the issue for Sleeves. From what I understand, when you're left with a stomach about the size of a hot dog and you pour a lot of liquid in on top of a very limited amount to food you are going to be extremely full very fast. Full to the point of pain. Full to the point of needing to throw up to relieve the fullness.
  4. Everytime I eat to fast it usually results in eating too much. I end up throwing up.

    my surgeon says no salad (lettuce) for 6 months

    Protein Shakes?

    GNC also makes a bottled shake called Lean Shake. Comes in Chocolate, Vanilla Bean and Strawberry. Goes down easy and has the required protein. Remember, you can't absorb more than 30 grams or so in one sitting.
  7. There is no schedule that controls a stall. We all differ but we will all stall. I stalled at 3 weeks for 5 days and again at 7 weeks for 10 days. Stick to the plan, avoid temptation to cheat. Proteins and water until you reach your goal. I'm almost 8 weeks out and have lost 61 lbs total. The last 39 will be a bigger challenge. I really don't miss food although certain memories of certain foods are strong. I am constantly surprised at how little I can actually ingest. And eating too much is no fun at all.
  8. I was on metformin (500 mg twice a day). My diabetes disappeared 1 day after surgery. Cool.

    Another Stall

    I'm 7 weeks out and in my second stall. I've lost 60 lbs including the 20 lbs from pre-op but the stall isefeating especially when I'm use to seeing daily weight loss. This stall has lasted a week. I don't expect too many more days. The 100 lb mark is my goal and I feel confident I will get there by Thanksgiving. I have had a few glasses of wine and while it tasted great I know it can't be helping...

    Alcohol

    I'm 5 weeks out and tried a light wine the other day. About a small glass on ice. It was good. Sipped it slowly and ended up throwing the last 2 oz. out as I felt the buzz. My surgeon warned my that one drink might hit me like 10.
  11. That certainly stinks. I sat in pre-op for 6 hours hooked up to an IV only to have my surgery cancelled due to complications with the patient in front of me. Had to wait 2 weeks to get back in but in retrospect that is nothing compared to you. Good luck and hang in there.

    Eating Is Like Doing Laundry Now

    Eating has become a survival necessity. I'm 5 weeks post op and am almost 1/2 way to my goal counting the pre-op loss. Until I reach my goal, I eat because I have to take in the protein. Not because I like to eat. Big change from before. The food still tastes good but there so little of it I ofter wonder how I am surviving. I must be. My nut and doctor are pleased. My diabetes is gone. My blood pressure is gone. My sleep apnea is reduced. I haven't tried had any alcohol and might try a wine in a few weeks. I don't miss it and I was a daily drinker. I do a lot of crock pot meals. Moist chicken, fish, hamburger, hummus, tuna fish. No steaks (beef) yet.
  13. The size of my meal would be equivilent to maybe just less than a golf ball. Or mayber 2-3 tablespoons. I am 5 weeks post op and have lost 30 lbs in that time plus another 20 lbs pre-op. When they say to chew, chew, chew thay are not kidding. I was always a fast eater and it is hard for me to tell when I am getting full. You eat a teaspoon full and it goes down OK. The next one might, too but then it is wise to wait for the food to settle because if you overfill it just isn't worth the consequences. I did it on celery w/ hummus and yesterday I did it on 1/2 a small hamburger with a carrot. My mistake was eating the carrot first. Always eat the protein first. I ended up throwing up on that one. Eat, chew, swallow and put the spoon down and wait a while. Try not to drink because it only fills the small stomach you have left. You don't want to start stretching that out.
