Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
For about a year and a half prior to surgery, I was on Wellbutrin, an antidepressant. My life was miserable and I just couldn't fit off the crying spells. The PCOS caused my hormones to go crazy so that didn't help either. After my sleeve on 9/13, the dose I was on was an extended release so I couldn't crush it. It took the drs over a week to find a type that could be crushed. By then, I had went through full withdrawls as I tried to recover from this major surgery. It was not fun. If I go back and read my posts in this forum during the time, I can tell I was bitter and not medicated. After the shock wore off, I decided to go med free. I'm at 9 weeks tomorrow and doing ok. I will not hesitate to go back on the medicaiton if I feel myself headed down that dark road to depression.

How long on Protein Drinks/Supplements?
For 2 weeks preop and 6 weeks postop, I was limited to 3 protein drinks and 2 yogurts. I'm at 8 weeks now and I still use the drinks to get in the required amount of protein. I'm struggling with getting most foods down so I like having the drinks around. I never used the dr. recommended drinks because 1- they were disgusting and 2- they averaged about $75 a week. I use EAS Carb Control in chocolate. Not too chalky or gross.

When will my hair loss slow down?
PreOp, I was prescribed 2500mg of biotin, a Rogaine type of product and Adactatone to help with hair loss from PCOS. I'm 8 weeks post op and just now starting back on the products. I hope it slows down the hair loss. My bathroom is a hairy mess.

Thanksgiving Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I will be 10 weeks out on Thanksgiving. My goal is to stay away from all bread products. I will start with turkey and cranberry sauce. I will allow myself a tiny amount of potatoes. My sister is making a banana pudding that I will try. Of the massive amounts of desserts, I feel that is the least harmful.

Pre Gastric Sleeve Op Liquid Diet: 13 Days To Go. Why Do I Have To Do It For So Long?
My preop diet was three protien drinks and two yogarts a day for 2 weeks. I was on that same diet for 6 weeks after surgery. That's a total of 8 weeks! I was so excited about working food back into my diet but even at 8 weeks, my stomach doesn't like much so guess what I'm eating? Protein drinks. I developed a painful lactose intolerance but still end up eating yogurt because it's one of the few things that doesn't hurt going down. Hang in there. I was angry that two weeks too. I knew people that didnt' have a preop diet. That made me even more mad!

Lactose Intolerance
No such thing as TMI to me. It's only the milk that does it to me. Even if it's just the little bit I add to coffee. The worst part is that it's uncontrolable. I do not want to be known as the woman that passed gas at work. Dairy was my mine source of Protein because chicken and turkey aren't sitting so well. I read about people eating just about everything at 8 weeks and I want to gag thinking about it.

Lactose Intolerance
Thanks for the advice. I have cut out the milk products and can see a huge difference. Or feel should I say... Dairy was my #1 source of protein so now I need to find a decent substitute.

Setting a Goal Weight
I am 5'11". I started out 9 weeks ago at 311lbs and a size 22. Not even my surgeon thought I weighed that much...but I did. The surgeon asked me to set a goal and we would discuss it at my 2 week check up. I knew that at 200 I was a size 11/13 so I thought 180ish would be lovely. The surgeon thought my goal was too high. He has set my goal at 145. My 18 year old daughter, who is also 5'11" weighs 155-160 and is a size 7. This goal is too low for me! I have decided on 175. My advice would be to aim for a healthy but realistic weight. Your goal seems more than realistic. Good Luck.

Carbonated Drinks and Fried Foods
I took a single drink of a water that I didn't know was carbonated. It felt like acid going down. I used to drink about 6 diet cokes a day. I do miss it but it's not worth it. My stomach is picky so I haven't tried anything fried. I don't vomit but sometimes wish I could.

How open were you about getting sleeved?
I was so embarrassed by the fact that I could not control my weight myself. I decided that as a way of acceptance, I would tell a lot of people. I also stress to them that it limits how much I eat but the rest is up to me. It isn't lipo or a tummy tuck. I am the one doing all of the work.

Lactose Intolerance
Has anyone else developed a lactose intolerance? I'm ok with cottage cheese, yogurt, etc but a sip of skim milk and the gas is so horrible that I'm afraid I might bust!

Too Much Gas!!!!!
I'm so glad that it isn't just me. I will be 6 weeks PostOp tomorrow. I am consistently burping but it's the 'lower' gas that is concerning. I'm sure that it can't be good to hold it but what can you do at work? It does appear to be lessening. I can't go #2 so I'm a bit envious of your diaherra. :-)

when is it ok to drink alchohol?
My dr. also said the absortion of alcohol will be different after the sleeve. It will be much more potent.

when is it ok to drink alchohol?

Need some advice
I regreted my surgery for the first 4 weeks. Hang in there, I promise it gets better. I was required to stay on 3 Protein drinks and 2 yogurts a day for the first 4 weeks. I stoppped losing weight because I couldn't force down half of that and was in starvation mode. The thought of eating made me want to barf. I am now using EAS CarbControl drinks. They have 17 grams of protein. I drink about 2 a day. It takes me over an hour to drink one but I force myself to. I am also chewing two gummie adult multi vitimens a day. Can use switch to gummies? They might be easier on the stomach. What type of diet does the dr having you doing?

Need some advice
I'm 5 weeks out and struggle with liquids too. PreOp, I drank a ton of water all day. Now, I just can't stomach it. I do try to sip all day. I pour a protien drink in a glass with ice and drink it all day. At 5 weeks, I don't get hungry and force myself to eat/drink. What's a 'pissy pouch'? What are the meds for? Sorry if I'm too noisy. :-)

4 weeks out... and...
Shalon: I was stalled until I added more calories. With my drs. plan, I was under 400 a day. My body was in starvation mode. Are you eating enough? I aim for 600 a day. I do watch the sugar.
-
4 weeks out... and...
They say the 'Stall' is normal but that didn't make me less mad about it.
-
When you started eating normal foods, how much?
No Dietary Restrictions? Wow! I was on full liquids of 3 Protein drinks and 2 yogurts for the first four weeks. Today is 5 weeks exactly Post Op. I'm on one mushy meal a day. I'm at about 500-600 calories a day. Once back on 'regular' food, I am not to go over 700 calories. No red meat for 3-6 months because it's hard to digest. Are you seeing a nutristionist? How many calories a day are you consuming? What's your average 'food' day?
-
4 weeks out... and...
I was sleeved 9/13. I lost 19lbs on the 2 week preop liquids and have lost 23.5 post op..It's 5 weeks today. At day 11 and an 11lbs loss, I stalled. Since then, it's been slow. I immediately regret the surgery. I was on liquids only for 4 weeks post op...how was I not losing weight???? Now, I have come to accept that it will be a slow process. I may have slowed down from the 1lbs a day but I have lost an average of 4.5 lbs a week since surgery. I've also learned not to compare my weight loss to any one elses. We don't gain the same way, we don't lose the same way. Also, don't weigh yourself every day. That killed me! I wait at least 2 days inbetween weigh ins. This isn't easy...that is for sure! Good Luck.

When you started eating normal foods, how much?
When was your surgery? What has your dr recommended stagewise?
-
How much did you lose?
I am 25 days post op. I lost 18lbs preop, 11lbs by 11 days postop and then bam... Stalled. I've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks. Totally disappointed.

i just feel awful
I am 25 days post op. I lost 18lbs preop, 11lbs by 11 days postop and then bam... Stalled. I've lost 1.5lbs in 2 weeks. I am on full liquids consisting of 3 protien drinks and 2 yogurts a day. It's so disappointing to be on such a restrictive diet and not lose the weight. The nutritionist tells me it's normal. At this point, I regret having the procedure done.
