FishingNurse got a reaction from ThinIce in mayonnaise
I am probably going to rile up a bunch of people! I don't use low fat or sugar free anything... never have since day one post-op. I ate ALL sugar free and fat free everything since I was 7 years old and guess what? I ended up 260 pounds. So, I eat the real deal in small portions, I am so much more satisfied and healthy. I have maintained my goal weight for a year and counting. When you are eating such small amounts of things I truly believe real fat is much better than processed, fat removed, sugar added crap. My cholesterol is normal, all my labs are great. Just my opinion!!

FishingNurse got a reaction from fourmonthspreop in The slimes.... can anyone explain them?
It is soooo odd throwing up a big slime ball! Sometimes I sneeze or get a runny nose instead or as well. I have only had the slimes about 5 times and I HATE it and avoid it at all costs. Oddly enough the flat bread from Subway has been the culprit 3 times so I don't eat that anymore. Other than that I can handle anything!

You eat so little of anything early out! I say use the regular stuff that doesn't have toxic fat free junk in it. That's been my secret-- enjoy the small portions, make it taste great and satisfying. I made goal at 8.5 months that way. I still use regular everything and skip the fat- removed sugar added crap.

I am so glad you are seeking help!! I have a little fear about regain too, because I have already let my friends and family see me go up and down with my weight so many times it would just be horrible If I had my stomach chopped out and STILL gained it back.
Luckily I am feeling like I am in control right now, I eat more than your average sleever, (1500 cals a day) I worry about eating too few calories and ruining my metabolism, losing my hair, and losing all my healthy lean muscle mass.
so eating 1500 a day I am still losing weight and feeling AMAZING.
Good luck, I hope you take good care of yourself. Keep us posted.

to be perfectly honest, I drink a small amount with meals. I am kind of a rebel. I also drink 2 or 3 sparkling waters per day. I don't reccomend this but I am just being honest. I have had zero troubles and I am having amazing weight loss.

Carbonation is controversial but my surgeon says it absolutely does not stretch the sleeve.

FishingNurse got a reaction from Lainybee1987 in What should my daily caloric intake goal be?
My nut won't give me a number to shoot for. She says as long as I get at least 65-70 grams of protien in a day thats what matters. But its my opinion that my body needs more than 600 calories a day to function properly. I personally shoot for 1000-1200 calories a day now that I work out 5 days a week. Those are good, healthy calories with an occasional treat. I do not want to lose my hair, or ruin my metabolism, and I would prefer to lose my weight slowly, preserve my muscle mass, and hopefully help my skin tone. I feel great, down almost 3 sizes, and I am halfway to goal at 2 months out! Its working for me.

FishingNurse got a reaction from sweesee in How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?
I have been a member on this site since before I was "sleeved"... almost 4 years! I have not checked in for months! It feels good to come back and see how everyone is doing and read how excited all the newbies are!
So basically 95% of the time I forget I had WLS. I have been hovering with in 10 pounds of my low weight. I go back and forth, like a normal person does. No complications except low Iron occasionally. My portions are more "normal" But my metabolism has picked back up and I am fairly active.
STILL THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF :-)
How about you? How are you doing 3-5 years out?

you haven't failed. That diet is HARD! I will never drink slim fast or carnation instant Breakfast again thanks to that diet. I cried on day 2 of my 14 day liquid diet. on day 8 I went out for a friends birthday and had buffalo wings and a beer. I some how pulled it together and made it from then on out. it all worked out. Its ok, we are human. Do the best you can and if you slip up a little its ok.

Someone brought up this question in another thread, and It made me want to share my Mom's story.
She had stomach/ esophagus cancer 19 years ago. They basically removed a small part of her esophagus and 70% of her stomach. She went from 195lbs to 105lbs. She has not been over 108lbs since. (she happened to be a yo-yo dieter too) She says sometimes she struggles swallowing bread. NO cancer since. This procedure she had to remove the cancer is much like the procedure we all are having. And this weight loss has lasted 19 years. And she is healthy to this day.

I have lost 95 lbs as well, and I have not loose skin, although a few wrinkles on my abdomen. I could care less, its not like I will show my abdomen to anyone besides my boyfriend-- and he thinks I am beautiful no matter what. Luckily my butt, thighs and arms look pretty damn good!

Very typical day- I get burrito bowls and eat them for days! And at 2000 cals I eat similar, like 2 eggs at lunch and a little more meat for dinner- and ususlly some veggies at dinner and sometimes for my afternoon snack.

FishingNurse got a reaction from scubagirlblues in Are our metabolism screwed forever?
I made it my goal to not ruin my metabolism-- at the advisement of an awesome personal trainer. I eat about 2000 cals a day in maintenance now. I have for an entire year. If I creep up, I cut back a bit. I got my cals up to 1200 as soon as I could post-op in an attempt to not tank my metabolism. I lost most of my weight at the 1500 calorie point. I still made goal at 8.5 months post op! I think I am able to eat a hefty 2K per day now cause I work out and stay active and cause I didn't stay below 1200 cals a day for long. My friend that had gastric bypass ate 600 cals a day for almost year so now when she started eating a measly 1000-1200 a day now she has regained 50 pounds.
Thats why I love my sleeve. I can maintain my weight now at a reasonable calorie count!!!!
