  1. It is an issue for a lot of couples but like someone else said if you have a strong relationship and keep communication open it will just get better. Be mindful about howmuch you do talk about food and weight loss and the surgery, it tends to take up all our brain space. Thank goodness for the forum because I would have driven my hubby crazy a long time ago if I didn't have this outlet, thats not to say that I haven't sent him to the brink a couple of times either. If you are the one that does most of the cooking in the house I would suggest you teach him how to cook his favorite meals and explain to him how this would be really hard for you to do in the beginning stages. If this is something that won't work, then maybe make those meals for one enmass and freeze/refrigerate them so he can have them through out the week without you having to deal with cooking them every day. I will say that my hubby has been great throughout most of this process. He does 99% of the cooking and always asks what protein I want for dinner. He still cooks what he and our son wants to eat too, but in this process he has cut out a lot of the carbs like rice bread etc and they have both benefitted from it. Both my hubby and son are big guys too. Hubby wants to get the surgery too but has heart issues and has to see if his cardioligist will give him the go ahead. Once your hubby sees how great you are doing he may change his tune and do this with you. BTW, your surgery date is a great one LOL it is my anniversary and I will be married for 15 years then. Good luck on your journey!
  2. Well color me red! LOL! you were beautiful then and you are beautiful now, just healthier! Happy Halloween!
  3. I think there are a couple of periods after surgery where people go through this. I was fine with it right after surgery because I expected the pain that was to follow. It was the diet afterwards and not being able to eat real food for so long that got to me. I knew from reading that eventually I would be able to eat more but the way I felt at the time was that I would never be able to eat normally ever again. Truth is I am 6 months out and I can now eat like a "normal" person and not an obese person. I feel like I can eat more than most people on here but that is still a 1/8 of what I was able to eat in one sitting pre sleeve. The biggest thing that I think got to me was meal time with my family. Again, not being able to eat normally. We now sit down to dinner and I am able to have a meal with my family and be completely full after one chicken thigh, some green beans (6 or 7) and one perogie. Good luck on your upcoming surgery! Hope this helped.
  4. Most people are jerks, simple as that. Ok, maybe not most, but you get the idea. I am a loud boistrous, bordering on obnoxious fun, confident woman and people always noticed me. I have been lucky in that I make people talk to me and take notice because of my personality and they tended not to see the weight. On that same note though, I was always "one of the guys" when it came to men and not a threat to most women. Now, I get comments galore from both sides about my weight loss. Like I said, I have been lucky in that respect with people I know. With people in general that I don't know that is a different story, men hold the door, the elevator, nod and smile and women tend to ignore me. Like I said people tend to be jerks.
  5. My BP was around there and my a1c was 11.5. Now I am on one BP med and my diabeties is in remission. Your dad sounds like he needs this. Your worry as a daughter is true blue, you love him. Him having this done will just let you love him longer. Good luck to him.
  6. I am 6 months post op. I haven't regretted it for one single moment.
  7. I have never been thin. I have had glimpses but never actually been there. I was the big girl with the pretty face etc etc. Being big always defined me as well. I was big and strong, I was big and beautiful, I was the big sister. I was really just big. Now that I am not big any longer, it is a weird feeling. I convinced myself through out the years that I am who I am and to heck what others think. The thing is, it was what I thought that always got to me not what others thought. As much as I tried to convince myself in the end it was always the same, the fat is what made me sick, unhealthy and even when I put on a happy face, sad. I still have a hard time thinking of myself as "thin". I see the imperfections and still think fat. I am a whole new person now and am still getting to know the new me. I like her Get to know the new you as you go through your journey. Take your time with it and define who you are by what you are on the inside and not what you look like on the outside.
  8. I am so very very proud of you!!! You have done an amazing job and it shows. You look happier, healthier and overall wonderful. Those last few will come off with no problem I am sure, although to be honest, you look fine just the way you are Congratulations and thanks for sharing your journey so far.
  9. Ditto what she said. I have this one woman in the office that used to complain to me about her comorbidities and how horrible she feels and how she tries to diet etc etc. She mentioned my weightloss once and asked how I did it I told her about the surgery and diet and how I am in remission with most of my comorbidities, and how great I feel, her response was "Oh" and she hasn't spoken to me since. Oh well, her problem not mine. I still smile and nod as we pass eachother too.
  10. I went through it too, before and after. Some friends even say I "changed".
  11. Truly amazing. Congratulations! Its hard for the brain to catch up to the eyes, but when it does, you have to congratulate yourself on a job well done!

Potatoes, mashed, baked, roasted, hashed, home fried, french fried. That is my biggest cheat.
  13. Woot there it is! No fluke there!
  14. Congratulations! Fantastic news on your labs and such. But here's the thing there is no doubt that you would lose all of your excess weight! Didn't need the nurse to tell you that LOL
  15. You look amazing and I love love the collar bones LOL. 15 years for me in January!
  16. Oh Cludgie, I hear you loud and clear. Congratulations on reaching your goal. I am so happy for you. Enough is enough when you feel "right" about everything about you. Its a hard realization to come to because we have tried so long to be "normal" only to get part of the way there and then to see it slip away yet again. Now you don't have to worry about that anymore, you learned how to eat healthy, live healthy and now its time to think healthy. When you are comfortable where you are is the right place to be then that is enough. I am not there yet, yes I reached my goal jeans and that was a great feeling but I am not comfortable with everything else. Are you comfortable?
  17. Job well done Chris! You look great!
  18. The sleeve gave us the tool to do what we thought was impossible. Now that we know it is possible if you slip, you still have that tool. Stay strong and go back to the basics of what you have learned. You are not starting over, but continuing on in your journey. I have no doubt that you will make it no matter how long it takes. Stay strong!
  19. Yay sleeve is right! Congratulations on reaching such a HUGE milestone!
  20. thank goodness you are ok.
  21. I am so happy for you!!! You must be on cloud nine and loving every minute of it.
  22. Really bad day 6, smoked today. GRrrrr so mad at myself, just gotta give it a go again tomorrow!
  23. Day 5 was a little rough but not too bad. Definately wanted the tobacco taste, but the nicotine from the e-cig helped. Today we start Day 6 .... one day at a time!
  24. Love it! My new goal is a 4 comfortably. In a snug 6 now
  25. What is Vg and Pg? Just makes my mouth sensitiven areound my cheeks and a little on my tongue. I've read where this is a side effect of the e-cigs in general. I think its just a matter of getting used to smoking them. We shall see. Day 5!!!
