  1. Mine used a 40. I'm 4 weeks out and can barely eat 2 oz. of dense protein. I did get reflux though so I'm taking a PPI and that has helped a lot.
  2. I'm 4 weeks out and after about the 1st week my husband told me I smelled different. I figured it was my breath so I try to use mouthwash every day and keep some mints around. All I usually taste are these darn vitamins that make me want to barf! Iron burps are awful!
  3. My dr. told me that leaks are highly unlikely after the staple line has healed, could be up to 3 months in some people for full healing. But very unlikely after 48 hours. That's why they do the leak test right after and before you go home. I've heard of undoing an RNY but revising... I don't know what that would entail.
  4. Well, I did dig up a shrub in the flower garden a couple days ago. I suppose that could be it. It's a lot better today so maybe it was just sore..
  5. Last night my shoulder hurt so much just like it did right after surgery. I'm wondering if it could still be some gas working its way out or something else?
  6. You didn't fail. 3 oz. of mousse is not going to ruin you. Go get yourself some sugar free jello pudding and sugar free cool whip and make your own guilt-free mousse. And tell those people no thanks next time they try to foist something like on you. You're only human!
  7. Every time I ask a question about them I get such different answers. My nut. tells me to take Flintstones, Calcium and b12. But some people tell me that Flintstones are crap. Why? I write to Vitalady and ask the same question. I get a form letter response that tells me to check out their starter packages at $231.00!! Plus I get a list of labs that RNY people have to take. I did not have RNY. Also I don't know how much I trust the Vitalady site to know what is right for us because they have it listed as "VGS" not VSG. So what I want to know is what Vitamins and minerals are essential to us and in what forms. WHY isn't Flintstones good? What do I need to look for in a multi, Iron, calcium and anything else. Is there a certain form of iron that is more absorbable? I don't know what chelate means or tender means. I just want to know what I can buy at Walmart or CVS that is good for me. I cannot spend $200+ on vitamins right now. Thanks for any info.
  8. I'm 4 weeks out and I still feel that, especially if I take too big a bit or eat too much. I've been Prilosec since day 5 and that helped a lot. It seems to help to drink warm stuff. It's worse in the mornings and I usually don't eat breakfast because of it. I just drink warm tea or something like that. I hope it goes away soon.
  9. Native Americans don't generally have much facial hair, but the Greek part - that would probably make up for it! I'm not Greek but I have issues with the facial hair. I wax and pluck. Probably will the rest of my life. <<sigh>> If you try the No No thing let us know how it works!
  10. I was told that I needed a sublingual B12 because the part of my stomach that makes intrinsic factor is gone, and if I don't take B12 it could lead eventually to pernicious anemia. I figure that a bottle of sublingual B12 that costs about $5 and lasts for 4 months is well worth it.
  11. I can't imagine why it would hurt on your right side. The stomach is on the left side right? Maybe referred pain? Dunno. But I would stop before I felt that next time.
  12. I felt that way the first few days after surgery. But then it's like my stomach woke up or something and I started getting really hungry. Once I started pureed foods I found that I would get hungry but I could eat just a few bites of something and that carried me for quite a while. I'm a little over 3 weeks out now and just today I haven't been hungry at all. I've only had 2 Protein shakes and 1 stick of string cheese so far and I'm just not hungry but I will eat some protein for dinner. I don't know if it's because I've been exercising a lot more the past couple of days or what. I hope it lasts!
  13. I have weighed the same since Thursday which was the 3 week point for me. I'm glad I read about it before hand. I have had a lot more energy the past few days however and I've stepped up my walking and yard work. I'm not freaking out but I hope it doesn't last too long!
  14. I'm so sorry you had such a rough start. I'm looking forward to seeing you post in the days/weeks to come and I hope you feel better real quick!
  15. I use Upcal. $17 for a box of 120 single serve packets. They're 500 mg. each packet of calcium citrate. It's powder you can mix in beverages or just take like pixie sticks. They taste pretty good. I got mine on Amazon from BP Medical Supplies.
  16. There is a Low Carb SlimFast canned shake now that has 6 grams of carbs and 20 g. protein. BUT, it may not be the kind of protein that we need. Check with your nut.
  17. My nut. told me to use only whey isolate Protein. The best I have found is nectar Syntrax sold on the Bariatric Advantage website. Lots of flavors that taste like juice and some choclate and vanilla too. Also, ask your dr. if he prescribes anything for heartburn. I had a lot after surgery and tool Prilosec. Sometimes they prescribe something. Good luck!
  18. Here's a tip: Take some nausea meds before the test. That stuff is gross! But no pain whatsoever.
  19. I used to love Slim fast before they changed the formula to the Optima one. Now I love Syntrax nectar Chocolate Truffle protein powder mixed with skim milk. Very low carbs and tastes really chocolatey. You can get samples and try before buying a whole tub.
  20. I had to do one day of clear liquids before surgery, one day of clear liquids after surgery, one week of full liquids, three weeks of pureed, then move on to solids at week 5.
  21. I'm 47 and I was in the hospital one night, home the next day at 3:00 p.m. I was up and around and off pain meds by day 3 and I went to the grocery store but was pretty tired when I got home. How long is your flight? Will you have someone to help you in the airport etc? I wouldn't have wanted to travel on day 3 but you could probably manage if it's really necessary.
  22. As long as you have everything set up before hand you should do fine after a couple of days. If you have no complications of course that it. DH was home until the 6th day but we have 3 small kids. After 2 days I was off the pain meds and i could do for myself as long as I didn't try to do too much (very tired very easy). The third day I made dinner for the family. Just keep someone on call if you need anything, but you should be fine. Good luck!
  23. Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I am definitely getting my calcium from other sources but it's good to know that the Iron in the multis is OK.
  24. My nut. said i could take a Flintstones complete a day plus Calcium and b12. I asked about Iron and she said no need. So I'm wondering if that's because there's iron in the Flintstones? It's 18 mg. BUT there's also calcium in them and I though they weren't supposed to be taken together. Is it because the calcium is so little or what? It's 100 mg. of elemental calcium (whatever that is.) I'm also having a hard time getting in my calcium citrate chewables. They are horrible. I've tried the Celebrate ones in different flavors. Yuck! Are there any that actually taste decent? When can I start swallowing Citracal Petites?
  25. Yeah, you're right. I talked to the nurse yesterday and she said the dr. said to give it a few days on Prilosec. I have some Carafate (ulcer med) if it gets worse she said to start taking. I haven't told them about not getting in my Protein today. If I'm still this way tomorrow I will give them a call. Thanks.
