I love to eat. Will I be happy after being sleeved?
Hi again, Bert! I can honestly say I am never hungry. Truly hungry, that is. Head hunger gets me sometimes, but then it's over as soon as I eat a couple bites of something. I am still amazed at how full I get after only a few bites.

Pre-op hunger pangs
Every doctor is different, but my Dr. had me go low carb, but not liquids only. Not really sure why they are all different, though. I lost 10 pounds in a week on mine. The only thing I can think of is some doctors might be using the logic that they are getting you ready for the brutal post-op liquid diet. Hang in there!

Help! No one in my house understands!
Well, I won't be much help, because I go through the same things as you. My family loves to eat (who doesn't?) but it is sooo hard on me sometimes. All I can say is, in time, you will be able to eat more and from my experience, even if I only get a tiny bite (all I can really handle) I am satisfied. It gets rid of the urge. I know you can't really do that only 6 days out, but it won't be long. That's easy for me to say, but honestly, it will fly by. I wish they would be more considerate to you, but in reality, no matter WHAT they eat, it's going to be tempting right now. Sometimes my DH asks me to pick something up on the way home, and I feel like I will scarf down the whole bag of food before I get home. But then, when I do get home, I just take a bite of his and I am completely satisfied. Really. Then I eat some Protein. Just to get it in. I hope you feel better soon. See if there are any support groups you can go to in your area. Or, I have found that this board is great for venting or just reading about other's problems/successes. Hang in there, because it really is true, like everyone says, it WILL get better. Good luck to you

How many of you 2 month or more out are still on a PPI?
I was told before surgery ( and read on here) that the sleeve can cause your reflux to be worse or cause you to have reflux even if you have never had it. For me, I never had it before, but do now. When I was having surgery, there was a lady from Canada that wanted the sleeve but suffered terribly from reflux and so she decided along with her surgeon to have the bypass which is known to not cause reflux. Hard decision for her, but she is happy to be rid of her reflux now.

In Mexicali!

That food pain in the chest
This happens to me, too! And I am 11 weeks out. EVERY single time I drink a Protein Shake or eat a Protein Bar, it happens. BUT it also happens when I eat certain yogurts. Just like you, it lasts about 15 minutes, sweats, heart racing and all, then it's gone and I feel fine. Sometimes, I'm like Kelly and get serious diarrhea from them. Who knows, but I hope this fades as time goes on.

Date set for June 6; anxiety and jitters normal?!?!?!
Yes! It was a surprise, but a happy one. As far as the first couple weeks after surgery, you will be feeling physically ok after a few days and certainly will be able to do any school related work then. Of course you will have the typical brain fog for a few days, but should be good to go after that. Now, I won't lie, sometimes it seems all you are doing is remembering to drink, eat, take Vitamins, repeat....lol but just set yourself a timer and you will keep yourself on track. Plus, that won't last forever. It will become second nature pretty soon. Congrats on your decision to do this. You are so right, we can talk ourselves out of things so fast. Just do it, get it over with, and feel better than EVER! Keep posting here, you will only grow more confident, I promise

Date set for June 6; anxiety and jitters normal?!?!?!
Yep, crazy like a fox. Probably the best decision you could possibly make for yourself. Good luck! BTW, my sister is working on her doctorate, too. She found out she is pregnant last November. She is due in July. Oh, and she is 43!!! With one child that just graduated a week ago. So, this surgery isn't gonna make you get behind. If she can do this, you can too!

Why must I finish it? WHY????
My starving children were in Africa, too, Applesaucy. Gosh, how did we make it through? Any wonder we have food issues as adults?

Recovery Time....
Well, everyone is different, but if your job is really an active one, a month would be great. I didn't need that long off, but my job is not very physical and I was fine. I did not get my energy back for at least a month, but again, if you don't have a demanding job, you will be fine going back earlier. But I would take the month since your mom has agreed to help. Good luck to you

On my 3rd week stall... so Disappointed :(
I think you are doing very well, too. It is almost impossible to do a 'low carb' diet without taking in more fat. Most low carb foods have fat. cheese, meat, eggs, etc. And for no more than we can eat at each sitting, I won't torture myself by eating lowfat ( which equals children's paste) items like sour cream, cream cheese, etc. The full fat versions of these items won't kill me when I can only eat a tsp of them =) Don't come down so hard on yourself. You are gonna get to goal in no time and don't let your Dr. pressure you. You are losing just fine.

Hair loss
I agree about the trauma of surgery being a possible culprit, although I have had many surgeries without any hair loss at all. I think it's the shock of losing so much so fast and taking in so few calories. I don't think the protein has much to do with it as I lost about half my hair volume once while on the Atkins diet after losing a lot of weight very quickly. And believe you me, I was eating TONS of protein. I was also taking lots of Vitamins (since I wasn't getting many veggies and NO fruit on the diet) and those did not stop the hair loss either. Sadly, I think it's just gonna come out no matter what we do. And vitamins, especially Biotin will help it grow back, but won't keep in from falling out. I wasn't taking any of the flaxseed oils or niotin, so I can't speak on their helping or not.

Oh Dear, Oh My
Wow! Thanks for the warning! I guess you just never know. That's a good idea about carrying the glucose with you.

How many of you 2 month or more out are still on a PPI?
I was also wondering about this. There is a commercial for Prilosec (I think) where there is a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen in teeny tiny writing about how you should only take this medicine for 14 days unless your Dr. says you should take it longer. Well, that worries me. I mean, even if the Dr. says you can take it longer, what is that warning about? What is the reason you should only take it for 14 days?

Almost There
Way to go! And what a great attitude

What did I do???
Man, I get those hiccups, too. It sucks, but it happens to me a lot. Fortunately they only last a few minutes for me. I don't see anything wrong with what you ate. Maybe you just ate a little too fast. Or did you drink any while eating? Sometimes even a little sip gets me going. I'm with Swizzly, potatoes are NOT my friend yet. They fill me up SO super fast. Hope you are feeling better today!

Low carb diet questions
It's a proven fact that your brain needs carbs to function. When I go really low carb, I forget things, can't think straight, have brain fog, get extremely ill. But like Tiff said, just try to do it till you reach goal. I mean, I can't give you a better example of "what works" than looking at Tiff and her results. On the other hand, just like she said, low carb doesn't have to be the only way to go after VSG. Just do what works best for you. Trial and error. If low carb gives you great results, then great! Just remember, the losing phase doesn't last forever. We can do anything for a little while, right?

Stinking stall
You are right on the edge of the 3 week stall. Most people have this happen. You can search it on here. There are few that don't go through it.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL
Wow! All that hard work paid off! What a fantastic accomplishment. Congrats

going to mexico
Just make sure to do LOTS of research. This has to be a decision that fits you and your lifestyle. Now, having said that, this IS a vertical sleeve site, so you will likely get lots of Pro-sleeve responses. I know I am happy that I made that decision even though my insurance would have paid for the lapband AND bypass. I had to self-pay but it was worth every cent. Good luck with your decision.

accountability
Hey, at least you confronted the problem and know what to do now. The chips and the drink are both salty, so as you already know, it's just Fluid retention. Good for you for calling yourself out. You will do just fine BTW, you don't suck. If you didn't indulge every now and then, I think you wouldn't be normal. 'eating your cottage cheese under duress'......Hilarious.
